Another update, another 3 hours of waiting.
I think Sony could take a lesson from how Microsoft does it's updates for 360. Actually, i think the Windows team could too.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 15th 2008 1:15AM
Wow, that was a whole lot faster then normal. Good job Sony. ;)
DigDug @ Oct 15th 2008 3:45AM
There will always be idiots who don't like updates. Me, I am grateful for the massive amount of functionality each PS3 update brings.
The 6 monthly, and usually lacklustre 360 "updates" are worthless. Even the forthcoming one has less functionatily that the latest Sony updates.
Eggy @ Oct 15th 2008 5:40AM
To be fair, a lot of the stuff that Sony is adding is already incorporated in XBL though.
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 15th 2008 11:01AM
Basically, only "edge" i give to PS3 is its Flash 9 support and WWW. compatibility. Which is convenient, but trivial. (It does not serve the purpose of a PC or Mac, just eye candy.)
So im with Eggy on this one. Everything from movies communication, etc...has been done quite a long time on XBL.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Oct 15th 2008 11:15AM
i tell ya. i just bought a 360 the other day and while i like it overall, i vastly prefer the multimedia options of the PS3. it just seems so locked down and sluggish. im just hoping the NXE fixes this cause i dont really like using the DashBoard compared to the XMB.
and i say that to say this, i love that Sony releases features as they come up with them. sure alot of them are playing catchup to 360 and Live features but in my experiences so far, i prefer Sony's offerings in just about all those 'copy-cat' features. i guess it's like improving on a great idea, which MS seems to have no lack of.
SecretAgentHam @ Oct 14th 2008 11:44PM
suprisingly fast update...
good thing the servers were refreshed lol
Vol @ Oct 14th 2008 11:48PM
Damn it. I just downloaded the 2.43 patch yesterday, through my Blackberry teathering (EDVO).. no DSL or cable in my area.
Levi @ Oct 14th 2008 11:52PM
does this mean I can finally catch up on The Office on my big ass TV without having to drag the pc over?
sweet.
Haon @ Oct 15th 2008 12:45AM
I also just updated yesterday. Bad timing.
Colin @ Oct 15th 2008 2:04AM
Yep yep, I'm actually watching The Office on Hulu on my ps3 right now. This is easily my favorite ps3 update.
tensider @ Oct 15th 2008 10:03AM
Although Colin can get on, I get the eternal "Loading" screen on the Flash section of Hulu. Anyone else having success/problems with this site?
Levi @ Oct 15th 2008 10:25AM
well, it won't solve your problem with Hulu (which I've never heard of, sounds like I should have though), but I was gonna check NBC.com for The Office. And Life, also a sweet show. Ya gotta watch season 1 before you start season 2 though :)
D_Average @ Oct 15th 2008 11:05AM
Hulu was working for me, but no the videos aren't loading. I tried reseting the browser but still no luck. Anyone else having this issue?
thesimplicity @ Oct 15th 2008 8:24PM
I'm having trouble with Hulu as well... some videos play, but hitting the 'full screen' toggle screws them up and basically shifts them in the embedded flash DIV. I tried adultswim.com video to see if it was just Hulu, but it appears that the PS3 version of Flash 9 only full screen in the embedded content area. Very disappointing.
I guess you can kind of rig it by using the R3 button to zoom in around the video area, but I was hoping this update would replace that horrendous PlayOn program that I use to get fullscreen Hulu on my TV.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 15th 2008 12:00AM
Downloading it right now...What the hell does it do anyway...And no I didnt read the article.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 15th 2008 12:24AM
Flash 8, Controllers will turn off, 200000x better account management and other stuff.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 15th 2008 12:41AM
Thank you..I don't read unless there's a Dialogue tree involved.

Installed on a 60GB with no problems.
pmasterfunk @ Oct 15th 2008 11:32AM
line rider ps3 FTW!
DangerMouse @ Oct 15th 2008 12:33AM
I'm glad that they allowed videos to be played in sequence. One thing that i always wondered why we couldn't do that in the first place.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Oct 15th 2008 11:21AM
OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS! the list of features i saw didnt say that! that is by far the biggest feature i had wanted for my PS3. i like to put TV shows in there and its a pain in the ass to have to turn the controller back on every 20 minutes to switch to the next episode. fantastic.
j.howlett @ Oct 15th 2008 12:50PM
i've really wanted this feature and its great. now they need to add a playlist feature
DangerMouse @ Oct 15th 2008 1:35PM
I remember reading it sometime last week, then i noticed it was missing in the list of changes yesterday. I was hoping they didn't leave it out, and i'm glad they didn't. my biggest concern was whether or not it would work with the media center, but it does.
Now, if only the PS3 would sort music based on the file name instead of the song title, i'd be all set.
ahsayuninew @ Oct 15th 2008 12:35AM
I tested out gametrailers in HD... its kind of choppy
Bluebrake @ Oct 15th 2008 12:42AM
I sure do hope this doesn't brick my system. Kind of hard to build people's confidence back up after something like that, isn't it?
hurtween @ Oct 16th 2008 8:02AM
videos pause now when you bring up the xmb!
SO FUCKING LAME!
Mono @ Oct 15th 2008 12:55AM
I'm having problems with "Full Screen" modes.
DesertPyrate @ Oct 15th 2008 12:58AM
Updating right now, I must admit compared to M$ this is slow as hell but its gotten faster, I wonder how long the new M$ or "NXE" will take to update as its the systems biggest update to date. Its a bug that you have to download and then install stuff but my PS3 has been really good to me especially with Resistance 2 on the way :) ...
Well finished system still alive 80gb newest sku with DS3, lol after having a 360 brick from an update I still get a bit nervous with these things but that was like two years ago and the system was older, perhaps a coincidence? I just wish there would be more seasonal type installs instead of damn near every other month, OH! when you log into the Playstation Store it starts up different lol
zuburi @ Oct 15th 2008 1:11AM
Stopped reading after "M$."
Frenzy @ Oct 15th 2008 10:57AM
I hear ya, but I'd rather have little monthly installs to fix/update things than wait 6 months (or more). Weekly updates might get annoying, tho'.
Dan CiTi @ Oct 15th 2008 1:18AM
It's a decent update. No NXE of course, but a nice update overall.
Chase @ Oct 15th 2008 1:30AM
I knew there was a reason I stopped commenting at Joystiq. Many commentators often skew things pro-Microsoft. As someone who owns all three latest consoles, I really do not see the need to act like Microsoft is infallible. I think the 360 is the best all-around console of this generation, but it has its issues. Case in point, I'm on my fourth 360.

Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 15th 2008 1:42AM
Why even bring that up?
Tiptup300 @ Oct 15th 2008 2:38AM
What does that have to do with anything at all?
That's like if I just now said, GOOD HOT DICKINGS.
Ayrkain @ Oct 15th 2008 3:10AM
I think Chase was replying to DesertPyrate, who does bring Microsoft up. If not, well... I'm stumped.
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 15th 2008 1:05PM
Why is it 'commentators', what happened to 'commenters'?
j.howlett @ Oct 15th 2008 1:41AM
got it in about 10 min as usual. now to figure out the play multiple vids in order part
Ordeith @ Oct 15th 2008 2:14AM
I could say I am boycotting Best Buy until those annoying ads are gone. (Did the hummingbirds teach you nothing, Joystiq?)
But I never shop there anyway.
PeterBeck @ Oct 15th 2008 2:29AM
Really glad to see that they updated the Flash support. The Trophy tweaks are nice too.
fraxyl @ Oct 15th 2008 2:58AM
It's surprising that it comes out in NA yet everyone else is left waiting... unless you're a test bed to sort out the problems before they go ahead and release it for other regions.
LordPaul @ Oct 15th 2008 4:43AM
It was available when I woke up for work at 0530 in the UK, which is probably near enough the time that this was posted.
So dunno what you mean.
EBH @ Oct 15th 2008 8:36AM
Yay! Now I can watch streaming porn on my PS3!
Nguyen @ Oct 15th 2008 12:51PM
I could already do that at megarotic.com on my original 60gb PS3, and I haven't done this update yet.
I am shameless and proud of it.
CLShortFuse @ Oct 15th 2008 9:39AM
There's also DivX Video on Demand support now for streaming DivX videos.
Scene search (PSP style) and support for networked HP printer are also new.
Popfrogs @ Oct 15th 2008 10:29AM
They also tweaked the video playback volume. Before there were 5 levels (-2, normal, +2), now there are 9. It's good to have fine-grained control over that now.
I'm sure there are lots of other little polished areas here and there.
thomas @ Oct 15th 2008 10:36AM
Downloaded ps3 firmware 2.50 on my pal ps3, now certain video's are shown in black and white, while others remain in color. How strange is that.
