TGS 08: Sony's booth - reality vs. fantasy

Our statistics show that you, dear reader, are most likely to be of American origin. As a result, you probably don't have access to the Japanese Home beta. It's a shame, because it's the closest you were probably going to get to attending the Tokyo Game Show this year. The Japanese Home "Events and Media" space was updated, allowing those who were unable to reach the show to walk around in a to-scale mock-up of Sony's booth.
But just how close does the in-game model come to the real thing? Scarily close. We've attempted to recreate the screenshots by photographing the booth from the correct angles. In each image, the top half shows the Home version and the bottom reveals real life. Thankfully, the real booth was nowhere near as empty as it is in Home. Perhaps a release of the open beta, timed to coincide with TGS, would've allowed even more people to check out their upcoming wares. Opportunity missed.

Wow, color me impressed! I thought both pics at first were real life at first glance!
ahsayuninew @ Oct 14th 2008 8:42PM
Ditto
Jtenma @ Oct 14th 2008 10:30PM
...and me actually not reading the title, I thought the same.

At first I though the headline was going to be bash on Sony. Something that Sony says vs. what really is.
Then I saw the two pictures and I thought they were before and after the show opened. Awesome.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 14th 2008 8:34PM

quasebrasileiro @ Oct 14th 2008 8:42PM
Makes me wonder what other awesome places they could re-create...
ExMcCloud @ Oct 14th 2008 8:47PM
Meghan Fox's bed room?
Droooool.....sorry
quasebrasileiro @ Oct 14th 2008 8:55PM
Mmm... no apologies necessary. I was thinking similar thoughts, actually!
VicViper09 @ Oct 15th 2008 12:45PM

Dirty @ Oct 14th 2008 8:47PM

Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 14th 2008 8:55PM
hmm, I like Japan's Home space more.
DesertPyrate @ Oct 14th 2008 8:57PM
Dang I was ready to reject the whole concept of "HOME" but hell colored me impressed, I might give it a whirl, I'm also looking forward to the NXE, Nintendo keeps falling short in this area, I own all 3 systems and at the moment XBL is best online, Nintendo is behind Sony due to its online movies especially the HD stuff, but maybe this will give Sony the edge they need
ExMcCloud @ Oct 14th 2008 9:11PM
Ultimately they still need a game to drive the service....Maybe Socom? Hopefully they find one soon.
Averna @ Oct 14th 2008 10:01PM
Socom is definately a step in the right direction. Match making sucks, bring back the era of the lobby! The match making killed Battlefield BC for me. I have never, evver, ever played a BFBC match that wasnt laggy.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 14th 2008 9:11PM
excellent!
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 14th 2008 9:12PM
That's pretty damn cool.
Bringing it home now looks shitty =( by doing a direct comparison (not that they are for comparing)
Just @ Oct 14th 2008 10:18PM
I like the crowd of the digital version better...
Levi @ Oct 14th 2008 11:48PM
now we don't have to leave our living rooms to visit each other at social events!!
pshh, jk... I applied for a beta... ^_^
Vidikron @ Oct 15th 2008 12:20AM
Joystiq should get a public Home space. We could all just meet up there.
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 15th 2008 8:51AM
I'm not feeling the idea of having to walk around to get my news, pictures and video clips ¬_¬
Besides, fanboys are annoying enough on here as it is, the last think I want to see is Azureknight running around in 360 armour or something dancing in front of my face and talking shit, lmao
qahar @ Oct 15th 2008 2:12AM
that would be funny if I tried to get in their and I needed a pass to get in and a security guard would stop me and tell me that I need a pass. This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen and I can guarantee that Home has potential.
qahar @ Oct 15th 2008 2:15AM
I want E3 to be like this so that everyone in home watches Ken kudaragi or whatever give their presentations, and view game current trailers.
Metal_Gear @ Oct 15th 2008 6:41AM
There is a video linked on PS3 Fanboy that shows them demonstrating the TGS Home booth and they are streaming the video of him demonstrating in the booth as it is happening. So they could stream the presentations and confrences easily by the looks of it.
qahar @ Oct 15th 2008 1:06PM
thats what I want man. Totally kick ass.
j.howlett @ Oct 15th 2008 2:46AM
cool comparison shots
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 15th 2008 8:52AM
I wonder if Sony will allow you to get MS, 360 or Nintendo clothing :S
farfisa @ Oct 15th 2008 9:53AM
Great study, guys!
VicViper09 @ Oct 15th 2008 12:48PM
Hmmm maybe..... idiot
