I'm hoping the best for Sony. Anyone can just screw their fanbase over but Sony chooses not to.

I'm looking forward to the interesting year sony has planned out.

They may not be leading, but they're not doing bad. A little advertising and we could probably close that gap. And when you look at the total Sony numbers, they are nearly double Microsoft's.

No, it is not like that. The point was that Sony is doing fine in the video game industry, even if the PS3 is not in the lead. It was more of a statement about their finances than about Sony winning any kind of competition.

I dont see THAT many PS3's moving because of LBP.......and I think that should say OCTOBER.........

I'll give LBP 300k copies in October, 500k in November.........but sadly it wont Outsell Gears 2 or Fable 2 the those months........

You guys give LBP too much credit...
Guaranteed it doesn't sell anywhere near the amount the ps3 fanboys say it will. It'll be a cult classic but a financial failure ( don't shove that only-20-people-made-it-so-it-didnt-cost-anything dribble -- advertising campaigns cost money.)

This is the Viva Pinata of the PS3.

Btw, before I get shit on for being a fanboy and have never played the game... I prefer the PS brand, and I extensively played LBPs beta.

These are fantastic sales numbers in general for a slumping economy. Its good to see consumers have more sense right now then stockbrokers. Sorry I'm a bit pissed off at the rollercoaster ride that is the global markets. My RSP's(Canadian savings plan for university/retirement) are down 25%... :(

MGS4 will almost certainly go to Xbox.

But, just like Twin Snakes went to Gamecube, and MGS2:Subsistence went to Xbox1, it will be the "game&bonus bits" version that also releases on the PS3.

And it will be YEARS away, possibly by then Xbox360 will be a dying duck, or Microsoft will be about to shoot it again to plug their new console.

Looking at how aggresivlely Microsoft (See that kiddies? I wasn't a toolbag and didn't say, "M$") has been getting developers and franchises on their side, I honesty wouldn't doubt it.

And it shows... 360 sales >> PS3. And it strikes me odd that PS2 Madden 09 > PS3 version.. Most odd is the PSP > PS3...

Y drop if sale numbers are going up? They are NOT competing against Microsoft, they are focusing on whats best for them. They've already said a while ago they took a loss with ps3 hardware to sale ratio, so now there gaining it all back. Plus with Triple A title this holiday season, I hope they don't drop for a long time.

Why drop prices? If you can sell just as many or just below the Xbox 360 for $200 more then why worry. This was a very dry month for the PS3 and sales were still pretty impressive and they should continue to climb. For the next few months the PS3 has a stacked lineup+ Home+ Holiday Season+ Please prey for a stronger economy.

Why drop prices? This is the reason why:

360 STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED LUCASARTS 610K

PS3 STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED LUCASARTS 325K

The same game with nearly twice as many sold on the Xbox 360. And why would not be competeting? Microsoft obviously is and they're winning. We should be at the top of that list! :D

its strange to see how the gaming system is working like this. we have 3/4 the number of consoles they do, yet are currently half the sales of that game. one important thing though would be the 2 360's per ps3 in america right now.

good news though!
on vg chartz, i just saw this:
Worldwide Top 5, 11th Oct 2008
1 Wii Sports 345,745
2 Wii Fit 309,527
3(this one is ps3)FIFA Soccer 09 203,136
4(360) FIFA Soccer 09 169,309
5 Wii Play 164,450
its probably due to the nearly identical sales in everywhere but japan and US, mainly europe and all other soccer loving regions.

Well, I'm one of the 232k that got their PS3 this last month and I'll tell ya it was for LBP and the fact I had to send my 360 in for the 5th time in 9 months. When I get it back from MS it's going up on EBay and I'm sticking with the PS3. Nothing I want to play isn't a PS3 exclusive or multiplat.

I don't want to have to go over why this is, but it isn't fair of Andrew to somehow use 360 Arcade and [80GB] PS3 in the same sentence.

It's like saying Sony should come out with a box that only offers DVD-playback, no wireless connectivity, no HDD (just a 256MB card) so no DLC just games saves, and no BC for PS2 games or even PS1 games for that matter, no BC whatsoever, no free online play (yes you do get 3 months of Live I think, but whoopitydo), it's louder, has no internet browser, you can't throw Linux on it and use it as a desktop or for emulators, no Gigabit ethernet for later necessity in Media Server capabilities (100 Mbps is fine atm, yes, but Idk about 4 years from now when streaming 25GB+ file-size media), could still be build-quality prone (RRoD, GPU-issues, NIC issues, DVD-ROM issues).

IMHO, the list of missing items in the Arcade is just too much to justly compare it to the [80GB] PS3 and consider them truly in the same level. It's the consumer's loss if they don't care to critically research before the make their purchase, especially in a "slumping" economy where long-term value proposition should be key.

but the beautiful thing about all this is: they both play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

so in the end, that's all that really matters to some people. they miss out on a grip of value not getting the top of the line model of either game system. but they get to play their fav games either way.

it's more like a PS2 compared to a PS3 except the PS2 can play most of the games a PS3 can and has online for $38-$50 a year depending on where you buy (which is cheap considering you do get better online service for what you pay for).

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

xbox360 fanboys are excited for xbox360 sales in September.

These numbers are only due to the normal increase in sales, which happens the first weeks after a price cut or release of a AAA game (for example, BOOST PS3 sales with MGS4 was higher than BOOST xbox360 sales with price cut).

In October xbox360 sales back to normal and numbers will be very close with PS3 numbers.

In November and December, instead I think that PS3 beats xbox360 thanks to the Blu-Ray player.

Yeah keep telling yourself that bub. You are not talking about a difference of 50$ between the 2 systems, it is $200 and in these times a good deal is what it is all about. Remember the price drop in September did not come till later in the month. October will be the first month that it is on sale from the first day of the month and there has been TONS of advertising since then also October is going to rock! And with Fable 2 coming out October will be a lovely month! WooT!

thats the key problem w playstation 3 at the moment. its not a game system for the kids, its an entertainment system for the family, and isnt advertised as one. just like how wii has been advertising to families, sony should put some effort showing families, more specifically parents w money, that playstation 3 is the package for all of them, not just their kids.

also they should hammer in the importance of free online gaming. saving that $50 per year for Live with free online gaming would easily make up that $200 difference in system in 4 years

I have a PS3. I know people who have Xbox's. And yes note the (s).

I have found that many 360 owners have more than one 360. So what does that mean. It means the 360 user base numbers are not really accurate. There may be more 360's sold, but that doesn't always mean they are unique new people sales.

I would like to know how many individual people own one system or the other or both. Count the people who have 3 360's but only count them as the one person they are, not as 3 360 owners/sales.

The numbers are obscured by crazy people who own multiple 360s. If I bought 3 PS3's the the PS3 numbers would go up too.

With the 360 being a MCE extender, people use them to watch pre-recorded tv from MCE too, not just as game consoles.

I know someone who literally owns 5 360's. Seriously!

People need to look at 360 sales numbers in the right light.

I would bet that almost every single PS3 owner has only 1 PS3. Sure cost is a factor, but PS3 owners are not buying 5 of them just to inflate sales numbers like some 360 fanboys tend to.

And yes, I have heard people say they have more then one 360 just b/c they want the 360 to do better.

The PS3 might cost more but is a better thought out and more complete system then the 360, and it will last longer. I bet I will still be playing my PS3 8 years from now (thats how long I had my PS2). I bet the 360 will be history in much less time than that.

I also can't wait for Resistance 2 and Resistance Retribution since they have some integration with each other. Using my DualShock 3 with my PSP (when I get one) will be really cool too.
