PSN Thursday: Ain't no Booty here, but there's SOCOM
Now that the unscheduled PSN maintenance is done with, we can get on with Booty business. Oops, it appears the Age of Booty won't be starting on PSN today. Despite Capcom's previous announcement, checking the publisher's press site reveals the game now has a November release, along with PC. However, there is SOCOM: Confrontation and the demo for Motorstorm: Pacific Rift available this week. Check out the full North Amercan update after the break.
The European PSN update for the week can be found over at SackBoy central PS3 Fanboy.

Glen @ Oct 16th 2008 8:43PM
Tell me about it...
I've just given up playing until they release a patch. Good thing this Motorstorm demo's up to tide me over.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 16th 2008 9:20PM
thats weird, been working fine for me in NJ.Except the little lag once in a while.
phinn @ Oct 16th 2008 11:13PM
It's a shame the servers can't handle the load right now, but then again what online shooter hasn't had problems at first like this (COD4, Warhawk, Halo, etc). Once they patch their shit and fix it to run perfectly (and i hope they freakin do) this could be the best online game ever
Ridgecity @ Oct 16th 2008 9:23PM
What's a good way to avoid feel sick while playing FPS?
thethirdmoose @ Oct 16th 2008 9:27PM
Stay farther away from the screen. Turn screen shake off. Play on a smaller screen. Play on an HDTV (less flicker). Wear glasses. Take seasickness pills if you must. But I'd start with sitting farther from the screen.
Tom18230 @ Oct 16th 2008 9:29PM
Vomit on yourself.
Malascythe @ Oct 16th 2008 9:54PM
1. Go outside.
2. Read a book :D.
3. Do your homework...or work...
4. Sleep. (too much gaming = eye stress)
5. Take a break.
Josh @ Oct 16th 2008 11:56PM
If you're susceptible to it, then there's pretty much nothing you can do other than only play in short bursts every now and then.
wonderweazel @ Oct 16th 2008 9:27PM
I love confrontation, but they have to fix the servers quick snap.
Player1 @ Oct 17th 2008 10:15AM
I think SOCOM has more problems then just the servers. I think it's the buggiest game I've ever played. Didn't they do a beta even? But aside from all the server problems, it told me my save data was corrupt the first time I tried to play (and didn't even have save data yet) and it made me delete it. Then my character model didn't have textures on the back of his head. It was white with some red circles. Also, you couldn't rotate the camera in spectator mode after you go to the screen to change your weapons. Also, it took me literally three hours before I could get into a game due to installs and updates. PSN has the slowest downloads.
At least the gameplay seemed to work okay. But they really need to do some work on that one. It's a good think the headset made it worthwhile.
Mics @ Oct 16th 2008 9:34PM
So...SOCOM: Confrontation, one of the few PS3 supposed "bullet-point" games that fanboys have been using as reasons why the PS3 > 360 is gimped. Plus, why is it being distributed on a Blu-Ray disc when it's less than 3GB? They coulda used a SINGLE layer DVD. Its size wouldn't matter at all but it's just that Sony keeps trying to tell me that I NEED a BD drive to play games. Well, they can keep SOCOM as an exclusive, as far as I'm concerned.
Tom18230 @ Oct 16th 2008 9:39PM
Oh fanboys, can't live with em... that's all I got.
mezzanine @ Oct 16th 2008 10:02PM
Can't joystiq just start banning people who comment like that?
Mics @ Oct 16th 2008 10:26PM
Why shouldn't I be able to make comments like that besides the fact that it criticizes your console and a company that is trying to push a format onto the world that is both unnecessary and unwanted? Was I lying and spreading FUD? I mean, is SOCOM not gimped? Are you able to play this game if the (so good it's free) network servers are taking a crap? Is the game so huge that it would require 3-5 discs had it been released for the XBOX? Has this game not been part of the "just wait til (insert game title here) comes out" argument used by the SDF across countless forums to downplay the ridiculous pwnage that the 360 is unleashing onto the PS3? We can now add this game to the OTHER list...you know, the list that contains Lair, Haze, etc...
Kodros @ Oct 16th 2008 10:49PM
Some games benefit from the extra space, some don't need it...big whoop.
Vidikron @ Oct 17th 2008 12:17AM
You're making arguments that are years old now. And the troubles with SOCOM are likely temporary. Quit wasting all our time with this crap.
Duke @ Oct 17th 2008 10:12AM
Now, I don't get your argument about them placing the game on Blu Ray. So what if it doesn't take all of the space, the console uses Blue Ray, so you put games on that format.
Nobody ever said every game released had to max out a format's space in order to justify the format's existance in the first place. Do you think every game on DVD fills the disc completely? The answer is no, they don't.
So, by your logic, DVD's shouldn't have been used either. Who cares how much space the game takes!
Besides, this bs about socom being some big argument against the 360 all this time is totally lost on me. Socom is a PS game, so why do you bother reading into the bs reasons people said it wasn't on the 360. It wasn't there because they wanted to stay on their home platform. Big whoop. You really had your feelings hurt by this?
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 16th 2008 11:44PM
I'm playing the Warhawk demo from last week. it is teh funzorz
Vidikron @ Oct 17th 2008 12:18AM
Warhawk is a great game.
j.howlett @ Oct 17th 2008 1:23AM
the motorstorm demo was ok. i'll give it extended time at a better hour
Emophia @ Oct 17th 2008 4:47AM
Motorstorm 2 demo was what I expected, a polished, more interesting looking motorstorm 1.
Which is good, the splitscreen works and is awesome, especially since they have splitscreen multiplayer with AI opponents also. The lack of it was my major gripe with the first one.
The track was really short though, especially compared to the M1 tracks.
The multiple paths didn't really seem to matter, but where there.
But where's all that dynamic track changing that the CG trailer promised? As a monster truck even a sapling can stop me dead...
Evan @ Oct 17th 2008 9:18AM
Did you play the same demo I played? Because I thought it was crap!
- Vehicles float several inches off the ground.
- The controls are sloppy and indirect compared to other recent racing games. Even the motorcycle feels slow and cumbersome.
- The vehicle classes are imbalanced. I had no trouble winning with the motorcycle, but the monster truck was much more difficult. (What's the use of a truck that can smash things when smashing things and other cars only slows you down?)
- The monster truck is totaled just by hitting a sign post or sapling!
- The motorcycle's "bunny hop" is a joke.
The demo for Pure was much better - the controls were much tighter!
Emophia @ Oct 17th 2008 11:27AM
The vehicle floating, atleast from what I noticed, was only in the race intro.
The controls felt fine to me, just like Motorstorm 1's, all the vehicles feel different. Nothing feels slow thought, the sense of speed in teh game is great.
I had no more trouble winning as any vehicle over the other once I got used to them all. The monster truck is fast too, it just turns terrible.
The demo was a lot better then pure's demo for me.
joeybeast @ Oct 17th 2008 10:53AM
HEY!
It's PlayStation Store for your PSP
You not longer need a PC Horay.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 17th 2008 12:39PM
HOLY CRAPPY TEXTURES BATMAN!!! I'm sorry but this game is not the defenition of a next-gen game. Its like it was devd on PS2...
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 17th 2008 2:28PM
I cant really dig deep into multiplayers using 3rd person...it looks cool, but i rather the accuracy of looking down my sights, OLD Counterstrike(b4 grafix updat) vet here.
That goes for GoW also, it may be fun, bun when the kiddies go into heat from slaying me in a 3rd person game. My reaction is meh...or "BOOLSH*T!"
Auryea @ Oct 18th 2008 12:48AM
Haha, I take it you haven't actually tried the new Socom yet. Normally, Socom is my absolutle favourite game in the world.... however now, Confrontation is so poorly developed... I think Slant 6 could have done a better job. Check out Dead Space though, I'm really enjoying that one!
