Isn't forwards-compatibility just a fancy way of saying upscaling.

...and I think the PS3 can do that for PS2 games. So unless there's more to this than it is implying, this isn't such a big deal.

I remember some PS1 games actually performing better on PS2. Mostly this meant better framerate.

The PS2 did this for PS1 games. It could read discs faster and I think it could use better (res?) textures. I can't remember exactly but I think it was something to improve the textures.

I can't imagine MS would abandon the Gamertag/Live format it's established over the past 5-6 years.

So it'd likely be backwards compatible + import your gamertag to access your DLC.

am I the only one who wishes Sony and Microsoft would kiss and make up so they can release a Playstation 360 next gen? Everyone would win...

Why not make the "Nintendo vs Everyone Else" scenario official anyway?

I thought the article was saying instead that the 360 will be forwards compatible.

i.e., the 360 can play 720 games, but not with all features. The 720 can play 720 games with full features, as well as add features to 360 games

It would make more sense saying that Xbox 360 games are forwards compatible.

Those examples you are showing shows promise. This is all software though, and its probably something that these current systems can handle to some degree. 720p 1080p its all relative. So long as the person has an HDTV. The hardware is just getting more and more pricey. And seeing how nintendo is making so much money by literally duck taping 2 gamecubes together. This tells ms and sony alot.

Maybe if Sony hadn't declared war on backwards compatibility, we would already have seen this feature this generation. PS1/2 games running in true HD would have been pretty glorious, but I suppose we'll never get it now...

That's what you get when you spin round in circles.
