Thanks to a recent comment made by Konami, the "Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox 360" rumor mill has once again begun to spin or grind or whatever it is that a mill does. We've never actually seen one.
One of the main points of argument against a potential port of Hideo Kojima's senior citizen sneak-em-up has always been steeped in the technical capabilities of the Xbox 360, versus that of the PlayStation 3. While Microsoft's ability to run MGS is currently in question, Software and Services VP John Schappert tells MCV that there's no doubt about the manufacturer's power to run MGS4. "I can't speak on behalf of Konami, but I can shed more light on the fact that we definitely have the power to run MGS4," he said.
We could take your word for it, John, but we wouldn't be a snarky video game blog if we didn't wonder if players had the power to run in-between the couch and the disc tray every few hours. That there is what we call a "world without compression" joke.

Good link, but that goes back to my first point, he doesn't say that that is because of power issues, he just repeats what we all knew, the game 'was' optimized for the PS3, it was made exclusive, so with only PS3 in mind, they didn't have to consider the console differences, they just used the PS3's capabilities to the max, and that means creating a port after doing that is made difficult because both consoles, while similar in many ways are also different in many ways. Its those differences that prevent an easy port.
This is what he points out.

After NXE drops, multi-disc games can be installed to the hard drive and one disc left in for verification, so MGS4 would work nicely. Microsoft adding that functionality opened up a lot of options... not that it makes up for not having a hard drive with every system in the first place.

Well my computer has the power to run Crysis.
...just not very well. At all.

Install time is mandatory for MGS4. There's no way around it.

The point is that even if MGS4 comes to the 360 at some point it still will not sell more copies than it did for the PS3.
If Halo 3 got ported to the PS3 the game wouldn't sell to over 50% of PS3 owners.
Overall the sytems do cater to different audiences. Kojima doesn't want to make MGS4 for the 360. Konami wants more money so they have another house port the title over. In the end the 360 would get a bad port of a PS3 game just like the PS3 got a whole lot of bad ports of 360 games.
Metal Gear is just like Gran Turismo. The game can run on the other system but it would lose quite a few tricks that were programmed in.

@shape
You sure about that? I get PCM out of my PS3 for most games...
Gotta have the right receiver is all...
Unfortunately I got rid of MGS4 a while back or I'd run it just to be sure.

I can't wait to see the packaging. It's going to look like one of those spindles of blank discs, but crammed with awesomeness.

'the power to run MGS4 ' my ass .......hell the 360 is not even powerful enought to play the high end PC games ..... and If MGS4 comes to the 360 look at how much they have to cut out of the game b/c of the Apple crap and all the PSP and PS3 things in there and plus some parts of the game uses the sixaixes ...its going to take 2 years for them to cut it down to work on the 360 and by that time MGS5 will be out and its not even worth it ...
Now MGS4 would be better on the Wii then the 360 i mean Wii sold more then PS3 and the 360 ...

A while back, before MGS4 was released, Kojima said the 360 had the power to run MGS4.
As for the disk swapping thing, all I'm going to say is that Cryis warhead and Crysis both have far, far higher resolution textures than MGS4 and it fits on a single DVD. I think the space issue with this game is due to them repeating textures and stuff on the disk in a logical order, so the laser doesn't have to look for them to load them. Not an issue on the 360 as it has much faster access time.
The only thing that could really make you swap disks here is a lot of audio (which MGS4 has a lot of) and a lot of 1080P video, which MGS4 also has a bit of. I doubt it would be more than 2 or 3 disks, and swapping a disk is a lot quicker than putting up with an install screen between chapters.

Here's the thing about if it's possible or not..
When a company like SONY states something like "This game is only possible on the PS3." Well there's technically no way to prove this. Due to the fact that it is well, exclusive. If MS had the option to make the game and just be like "Make this game for the 360." Well then it would be made. But because games are exclusive.. a company can tout anything they want to. Just like how (I think they said this) Disgaea 3 took up all 50gb of space on the blu-ray disc? Ok.. same with LBP. (LBP maybe.. but Disgaea 3 idk)

The Exclusive thing isnt a problem at all remember GTA4, nothing a "litle" more money cant solve, and the thing is that one think everybody knows is that MS has much much more $$$ to spend than Sony, not even a true Fanboy can deny that.
I bet Kojima (or at lesat the rest of Konami)doesnt mind a big bag of cash this Cristhmas. ^_^

I think it would be hilarious if Konami did release MGS4 for the 360, and it ended up selling more copies than the PS3 version.

The problem isn't switching discs, it's cost.
1 dual-layer bluray disc cost roughly the same to produce as 1 DVD-9. Now, if you have 5 discs, that means it costs 5x as much to make, then you gotta make special boxes, and rework all of the PS3/Apple stuff in the game. That all cost money that Konami would not recoup unless the game sold a bunch of copies.
It wouldn't sell enough copies, because lets be honest, the people who really wanted the game bought a PS3.

MGS4 is 50 gigs worth of a full bluray disc, i don't understand y people are talking 30.
MGS4 was not only optimized with the bluray disc, but the processor aswell, yes I have no doubt the 360 could run mgs4, but it would be a poor port, and history has shown ports are shit, not even close to 1:1 performance, just take the audio for one, it couldn't be 7.1 uncompressed. Don't get me wrong, ports go the other way too, 360 ports have been crap on the ps3 for the most part, multiplat only works when each version is started from the ground up.
I dont no why everyone cares about this so much (still).
MGS2 sold terribly on the xbox, and the library of the xbox shows that the fanbase isn't into what makes up mgs4.
IE, smart, thought provoking story. They just want their big testosterone space marine.
