Maybe it's because Islam is the only religion who has followers are completely DEVOTED to their faith. No other religion complains, because their religion isn't their life.

If anything, muslims are doing it right. If you are going to follow a religion... do it right! Don't be half assed.

No, it is my life, as it should be. But hearing Bible verses in a song wouldn't disturb me, unless it's followed by THAT'S ALL LIES. or something. Guess what? People use Christian imagery in offensive ways all the time, nothing happens. No one cares except Christians. I generally don't care because I know people are jerks and will do it no matter what. People way over backwards to avoid offending Muslims though.

Maybe because Islam and Christianity are 2 completely different religions. The Qur'an is sacred to Muslims, and they respect the book and everything inside of it. They are very strict about their religion, unlike Christianity. You seem too culturally ignorant to understand that though.

Bible's sacred to me too, but guess what? I don't get special consideration everytime someone uses it in an inappropriate way. That's how the world works. People can be jerks, you have to learn to deal with it. No one would do anything if Christians or any other religion was complaining.

Wow, how many times do I have to say this? Islam is much more struct than Christianity. It's considered a great offence for verses from the Qur'an to be used in such a way (not even just in a song, but a song in a video game...). This isn't just "oh, I'm annoyed they used verses", this is more like "they have desecrated my entire religion, my life and my god." If you can't understand that, then you can't argue against them. At least have some background knowledge before you try and argue.

You're still ignoring my point. I consider it very offensive to use Jesus' name in vain, but no one is ever going to delay a game because of that. The point is: This is special treatment. Special treatment which could be fueled by a stereotype of muslims are dangerous, or not. Point is no matter how many other religions it offended, no one would ever delay a game because of it. I know that they consider it bad. Guess what? That doesn't stop them from doing things that deeply offend me.

Tom, you're the one that's not getting it. It has nothing to do with how strict you think a religion is. What lwelyk is saying is that even if he, or another Christian, did complain about some religious reference they likely wouldn't get this same consideration. And, yes, there a plenty of devout Christians out there.

lwelyk has you trumped Tom, you're totally missing the point of his arguement. There are alot of things in other video games that are based on religion that people have been offened by (Resistance Fall of Man being a recent one) that have gone unchanged. However apparently the religion of Islam gets exceptions where others do not.

And for the record, Christianity and Islam are not polar opposites like you are implying.

I'm sure if Christians actually complained, then yes, things offence to their religion would be censored. But the fact of the matter is, they just don't care enough to actually complain. I never implied that they are opposites, but merely that Islam is much stricter on matters such as this, so they will be much more offensive in getting the content removed.

And yes... I'm a racist muslim.

(I'm just a well read Athiest actually :P ).

Way to go Sony, I've owned a PS3 for several months now, and this was the first game I was actually going to go buy and what does Sony do?

Bow to the islamic-extremists in the world. Guess Sony was afraid Bin Laden would get a hold of one of their PS3's and use it to create a WMD.

Bad move Sony, bad move.

I think it's important to keep in mind here that on balance, the deeply held religious beliefs of billions of people should trump the inconvenience of a 3-week game delay in any just society.

I hope they would do this for other religions. And if they didn't, they would be wrong then, not now.

Imagine if they discovered lyrics that said "Let's all kill Jesus, that guy was a f*cking bast*rd." You don't think they would do the exact same thing they're doing now?

Lots of people have managed to get hold of the game early. Some naughty shops have been selling it early.

Anyway, to be fair to the guy who reported this, he only asked that the game be patched after release. He never wanted it to be delayed.

Why be fair? #1, he snatched up a copy before release, which had to violate a contract somewhere. #2, he complained to Sony in a public forum which made Sony respond in an instant and serious way.

Bottom line, I can't stand small, anally retentive groups whose only reason for existence seems to be based on the fervent pursuit of ruining fun for others. This kind of mentality is bad for the world. These are the same types of people that try to ban breast feeding in public and any other thing that "offends" them. Nobody is twisting their arms to buy this game.

Why not just boycott it instead? Like Sony and MM will mind not selling 100 copies of the game to people that get mad over things like this.

I can see the headlines now, "SCEE bans user created levels in LBP because of the widespread anti-islam levels being created."

In case you were wondering, the quotes in question are:

"1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').

Thanks to NSider for providing the link and translation."

The 2 yr old song is from an award winning MUSLIM musician. If the Sony wasn't banking on this title to sell PS3s, if the 1 billion Muslims in this world weren't being cast as dangerous and violent, if humans were reasonable creatures who let critical thinking decide their actions, rather than the voice of "moral leaders" and "religious moral philosophies," perhaps this innocent platform game would go onto the shelves with nary a glance.

After those riots people have been really scared to portray anything relating to Islam, and i can understand why. Those Danish cartoons were even misinterpreted, so the fact that the song comes from a Muslim singer may not matter too much.

I wonder if they're just doing it out of fear of Muslim fundies, or of Christian racist fundies as well.

People are going to be making 9/11 levels, Penis levels, Swastika Jew-Oven levels, Nagasaki bbq levels, and every other sadistic thing they can imagine. That is the price of creative freedom.
