I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet, as I didn't read through all of the comments made, but you can actually buy the game right now through NCSX.com and if you choose usps express mail shipping you will actually have it by tomorrow (if you live in the usa).

I just ordered a copy and it seems like a lot of others must be thinking the same thing. Their website and phone system is getting hit hard and is taking a bit to process.

Crap, this is basically like a year long delay for me because Oct 21st - Nov 7th is when I was planning on getting my LBP on.

Not picking up anything else for a while after Gears 2 hits.

If I had a PS3, I'd buy LBP, then make mosque levels where you can jump onto golden and shining calligraphy, then share them with friends. Screw the game. This speaks to a larger issue about tolerance and education. This is just sad. I am embarrassed for Sony, even if they are not smart enough to be embarrassed for themselves. Come on people and get a grip.

Easily fixed... just add a disclaimer to all games that the content of the games themselves do not reflect or express the views of Sony Computer Entertainment or any of its parent/subsidiary companies. No need to replace discs or remove the content. (Unless the ESRB has some sort of "No Muslims" policy that would affect the game rating...)

I'm a Muslim and I don't give a shit about these verses being included in the game and it is probably the same for millions of other Muslims as well who were waiting for this game. Well I don't think that is good attitude. But remember not all Muslim countries are messed up. Albania, Bosnia and Turkey are all decent as are the Muslim regions of Russia, all very forward thinking, Western, Liberal and Tolerant. I hate the extremists who are usually from Arabia and such, but nuking is extreme dude.

The best way to deal with extremists or terrorists is not to do deals with them - that will just inspire more ass-hattery. Sony are just encouraging religious censorship and art of any kind should be allowed free rein for expression. That's kind of the point of it. The only reason I can gather that the mixing of those verses and music is offensive is because many Muslims (and not just the extremists) have some kind of bug up their ass about music. It's not haraam, and if you believe everything you're told then - being ignorant - you deserve to get ignored.

Can someone explain to me why exactly mixing these verses with music is offensive? Or why The Satanic Verses was deemed offensive? It's almost like the religious leaders with all their power don't want people to think for themselves...

It has more to do with their faith and the tenant that disallows verses from the Qu'ran to be put to music, than the actual verse itself. The offensive material comes from putting those words to music, which is forbidden, not that the words are in the game.

i am deeply saddened at what the world has become . . . the respect that has been lost throughout society and the destruction, greed and manipulation that has been brought forth. I have been raised as a muslim and have been taught to respect and love EVERYONE of gods religions along with everyone with a good heart and good intentions for humanity and the universe. That includes all beings and beliefs. I also have been taught to ignore ANY being that has an evil intent of any kind and that also includes ALL beings no matter what they label themselves. One thing i can say is if all beings in the world take these beautiful religions and follow it to the fullest, starting from the basic teachings of GOOD . . . which is 99.999% impossible, especially these days because we are just humans with the ability to be persuaded by evil thoughts. But "IF" lets say this could ever be it would be worth so much to me that i personally would sacrifice and give up all the pleasures of the world to have witnessed it. Wouldnt it be a beautiful place. My eyes tear in joy just thinking about it.

You know, I find it disturbing how much hate and bile is being spewed forth about a game. Granted, a cool game, and eagerly anticipated one... but are people here really saying f**k Islam because they can't play LBP for a bit longer? Or is it the idea that Sony decided to bend for once?

I'm not a Muslim (I'm a Taoist, if you must know), but I love the Qu'ran for its poetry, imagery, and overall message of peace. There are those who twist the words of The Prophet into a message of hate, but if you think Islam is alone in that regard, do a quick Google on the Westboro Baptist Church. (I'm not trying to bash Christians here - I'm just pointing out that extremism exists everywhere).

So, to all my peaceful Muslim brothers and sisters, I am so sorry for all that you have had to endure because of a corporate superpower's knee-jerk reaction to this issue. I am also sorry that other practitioners of a hobby (video games) that has brought me a great deal of pleasure feel the need to display their anger in such a violent way. I always laugh when people call the US President stupid, because that's all they can do. To answer t_m, yes somebody stating they were a muslim did complain. They put there case across in a polite way and there was none of the 'foaming at the mouth' that can be seen by people on either side of the argument.

My point of view is that people shouldn't bow to religious pressure and it does appear that people are more willing to change their product when muslims complain rather than another religion such as christianity.

This is hardly the fault of muslims though.

Another point was the song in question was being sung by a muslim and had been out for 2 years without any apparent complaints.

On the other hand I'm sure Sony didn't want LittleBigPlanet to offend anyone. It doesn't sound like they purposefully put the track in thinking
'Gee, what this game needs is some muslim guy singing a bit of the Qur'an'. I'm sure they also realised they would get stick either way.

The problem is does this mean that it makes Sony look like they agree with their beliefs (some of which are deeply offensive).

I generally find most religions to have offensive beliefs (usually involving sexism and homophobia) but I wouldn't ask for the bible or Qur'an to be edited so that it wouldn't offend me (despite the fact that these religious organisations practice discrimination which is illegal in the UK).

Some people will just think 'well, it's only a computer game' but it has generated some healthy, and not so healthy, debate which has been interesting.

The mention of terrorism has been disappointing but hardly surprising. On the subject prior to 9/11 terrorist attacks in America and the UK many were actually carried out by people who weren't muslims. I'm surprised people forget this. The amount of attacks on the UK by muslim terrorists is a drop in the ocean compared to those carried out by the christian IRA. Please read wikipedia to see the wide ranging terrorist attacks from all different religions and cultural backgrounds.

Overall if somebody finds something offensive, that is not illegal, they shouldn't buy it.

First off, I’d like to say that I am a Muslim gamer, and appreciate what these companies are doing to get the song out of the game, despite the outrage (read comments) it may/has caused.
Now, Quran verses are not meant to be read with music in the background. You can’t compare this to Christianity, because we’re talking about two different religions. I understand that a Christian won’t be offended if verses from the Bible are read with music in the background, but again, two different rules/regulations.
As for the issue of the song’s artist being a devout Muslim (I like how people wrote that in bold, as if to say, Wo ha! This is a Muslim conspiracy to ban video games) you can be a devout anything, and still be misguided in certain things. Let me guess, you’re gonna say “well, read your Quran, it’s supposed to GUIDE you.” The thing is, the Quran doesn’t tell us how to pray, because we’re not just supposed to just use the Quran for our teachings, but we also learn from the habits and teachings of our Prophet (PBUH) as well as other scholars etc.
On another note, I truly got offended at the posts about honor killings, terrorism. It’s true that the terrorists that are out there (which are at a huge minority) claim to be “Muslim,” and that honor killings happen in Arab, Middle eastern, or as you might put it “Muslim” countries, but this is in no way a part of Islam. In Islam, he who killed an innocent soul is punished as if he killed anyone who has ever/will ever be born. It's completely against our religion to do this fake “Jihad” and all of these hypocritical actions that terrorist groups are performing. Honor killings, as well, are not part of our religion in the sense of “I saw my daughter with a dude, I’m gonna kill her,” but if a woman has intercourse outside of marriage, and there are FOUR witnesses, then it happens. This is practically unheard of. Four people? Unless you work for a certain “industry” this is highly, highly unlikely.
I’m really sorry that the game actually got delayed, but it’s for the better IMHO.
