Sony: LittleBigPlanet US release moved to week of Oct. 27

Delayed from its original Oct. 21 release date after phrases from the Qur'an were discovered in one of the game's background music tracks, LittleBigPlanet has been rescheduled for release in the US during the week of October 27th. SCEA made the announcement on PlayStation.Blog in response to a worldwide delay of the game's release.
Patrick Seybold, SCEA's director of corporate communications, says, "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused." For thosepatiently suddenly finding themselves having trouble waiting out the six-day delay, Seybold offers an apology and promise. "Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible."
We've contacted Sony to find out exactly what steps are being taken to address the situation and get a revised version of LittleBigPlanet turned around and to retailers within a week.

Just enough time that they don't have to compete with fable 2. Good thing they could scapegoat music as the reason.
Drew @ Oct 17th 2008 3:13PM
You're a dummy.
Temidien @ Oct 17th 2008 3:31PM
I can't even begin to explain how incorrect your assumption is.
Atcon17 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:40PM
I don't know how they are doing this. I work at n EB Games in Canada and we already have ours but can't sell it until the street date.
H Choi @ Oct 17th 2008 3:41PM
Why would Fable II and LBP compete with each other? They're on different platforms idiot.
DigDug @ Oct 17th 2008 3:53PM
Are all Xbox owners this idiotic?
antsmarching @ Oct 17th 2008 3:58PM
nah, dig dug. the fact that he sees fable 2 and LBP as competitors means he's assuming that people have both systems and... eh, nevermind. he's an idiot.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 17th 2008 4:00PM
"Why would Fable II and LBP compete with each other? They're on different platforms idiot."
They were both competing for my money on the 21st. Believe it or not, tolerant guy, many people own more than one video game system.
Duke @ Oct 17th 2008 4:12PM
Yeah dig dug, you should really be calling people idiots. Shall we all talk about your bs post history?
Kellydude025 @ Oct 17th 2008 4:31PM
"I don't know how they are doing this. I work at n EB Games in Canada and we already have ours but can't sell it until the street date"
will probably be fixed with an online update
H Choi @ Oct 17th 2008 4:51PM
"They were both competing for my money on the 21st. Believe it or not, tolerant guy, many people own more than one video game system."
Of course there are people who own more than one system. But its certainly not large enough to warrant a delay.
Levi @ Oct 17th 2008 5:49PM
Ehh I dunno, Fable 2 is a big name, but isn't Fallout 3 bigger? And if we're going to talk about completely different genres competing with each other for money ( and they do sometimes, although I'll still get both games), shouldn't you say something more like "Why the hell would they release this on the same day as Fallout 3?" Considering it's on the same console makes that even more of a valid statement.
Vegnagun bwf @ Oct 18th 2008 10:54AM
I actually laughed when I read NumbN8's post.
LiquidX @ Oct 18th 2008 6:33PM
That's strange. I just rented the Game at blockbuster yesterday.
Konstantine @ Oct 17th 2008 2:58PM
Glad they plan on the date being speedy. Gives me a week for Far Cry level creations!
Falcon Punch @ Oct 17th 2008 2:58PM
how bout a demo
Jakka @ Oct 17th 2008 2:59PM
On one hand it's a good thing since it won't come out at the same time as Fable 2 but on the other it sucks that Sony gave in and now it comes out at the same time as Fallout 3.
Drew @ Oct 17th 2008 3:14PM
They didn't give in, they decided to make sure nobody had any religious beef with this game, allowing everybody to play.
Temidien @ Oct 17th 2008 3:28PM
No, they gave in. SCEA is afraid of another religious scandal after the CoE debacle and decided to punish its intelligent gaming audience by avoiding hurting the feelings of its unintelligent gaming audience. This is not to say that Muslims and followers of other faiths are ignorant, but any person who claims they have the right to not be inconvenienced is an inconvenience to us all.
Vcize @ Oct 17th 2008 4:16PM
I still don't know why Sony would have had any more trouble with this than Amazon or Apple, both of whom have this song on their websites.
Or for that matter, THE ARTIST OF THE FRIGGIN' SONG who seems to be doing just fine.
antsmarching @ Oct 17th 2008 4:21PM
I think the decision to hold off was in no way giving in. It was social responsibility. By eliminating the unintentional offense, Media Molecule is reinforcing the sense of global community that is such an integral part of the game. At the same time, it shows that the gaming industry can often be just as intelligent and conscious of social issues as other media. Way to go!
Haggard @ Oct 17th 2008 4:37PM
They didn't lose anything in the CoE debacle.
England's christians boycott a game? That's like a nunnery boycotting the sex toys industry - there's not many of them and they wouldn't have bought it anyway.
tmmoore_nc @ Oct 17th 2008 3:00PM
How about making those Snake/Sephrihoth Sackboy skins free, eh?
I'm still disappointed that the game was delayed due to something so trivial. Some people take things way too serious.
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 17th 2008 3:23PM
"Some people take things way too seriously"
Yes, like their religion.
tmmoore_nc @ Oct 17th 2008 3:30PM
I'm mainly referring to people who say people who aren't in their religion can't talk about their religion or use anything about their religion, even though said thing was made by someone in their religion.
Arturo @ Oct 17th 2008 3:00PM
Phew! That's a relief. Looks like Far Cry 2/Fable 2 for me and then Fallout 3/LBP yayy
john paul @ Oct 17th 2008 7:53PM
You rich SOB...
I'm leaving Fallout for the drought after the holiday season.
Arturo @ Oct 17th 2008 11:36PM
I'm not rich, I just penny pinch and sell whatever I can to get $ and care less about my fashion/food budget, etc. lol
SecretAgentHam @ Oct 17th 2008 3:01PM
i guess its only a week... still pretty mad that a SONG with religion pushed it back... so when artists say that they thank "G-d" thats wrong too?
i've waited long enough for this, just need to wait a little longer...
SexyKittyKat2U @ Oct 17th 2008 3:01PM
LMAO!
EPIC FAIL
That's the type of shit you should expect when you have a psTRIPLE.
NaeemTHM @ Oct 17th 2008 3:04PM
I ain't talkin bout dat xbawks, I'm talkin bout da PSTRIPLE beeches.
Monkeys Suck @ Oct 17th 2008 3:04PM
Idiot, it has nothing to do with the platform, but with the content in the game. Pretty sure any other company would cave too.
Lose the fanboyism.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:07PM
Your a fucking retared asshole that nobody likes and will someday get beat up for talking shit to the wrong person...Oh wait, you only do this online, because your too much of a pussy in real life.
I was trolling this site before you even knew what joystiq was. Please stop, your not even a good troll.
Jakka @ Oct 17th 2008 3:10PM

Sorry to say but insulting someone isn't a good way to troll either.
SexyKittyKat2U @ Oct 17th 2008 3:14PM
LOL Jack I love how you act like you know me....
Typical sony fanboy ASSumption.
Get your mind right. If you were here in my face I'd talk this shit right to you.
Stop talking shit trying to all hard. You aren't nobody so really quit with all the gangsta shit cuz you clearly aren't.
BIGFAT @ Oct 17th 2008 3:16PM
Zack and Wiki didnt get delayed.
just face the facts, the ps3 games always get delayed just like 360's always have RROD syndrome.
cc123 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:17PM
Well I don't know about anybody else but guys that name themselves "Sexy Kitty Kat" sound really big and mean.
I wouldn't fuck with a guy like that. Careful Jack.
SexyKittyKat2U @ Oct 17th 2008 3:18PM
And I meant,
"Quit trying to ACT hard and shit"
Drew @ Oct 17th 2008 3:19PM
The time has come, overlords.
All in favor of a ban, say "I"
All opposed, "Nay."
As the beginner of this meeting, my vote will be omitted.
BIGFAT @ Oct 17th 2008 3:25PM
nay
Duke @ Oct 17th 2008 3:32PM
I don't see the epic fail on Sony's part here.

tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:43PM
A ban wouldn't do anything to this dumbass since he's already been banned probably close to a dozen times by now. He needs to learn how to troll the right way.
Markez @ Oct 17th 2008 4:38PM
Nice graph there, Tuna.
@ Tmac - Going to disagree with you a little here. He's a known commodity, I think what makes more sense is for seasoned Joystiq posters to not take the bait for goddssakes. Shouldn't most of these people know better?
On topic, I don't know if a delay in a release date means anything anymore, it's just a fact of life, deal with it.
Hakuna matata.
Trev @ Oct 17th 2008 4:51PM
For someone so up in arms over a, note: single, racially insensitive comment, you're showing absolutely no consideration for others' culture and even using it as a way to attack something so trivial as a game console.
You've gone past "fanboy idiot" and made it all the way to "you should probably be medicated to keep this in check" style obsession with Sony. Please start seeing someone about this.
Haggard @ Oct 17th 2008 5:12PM
You don't understand man, it's sony who made him crazy!
Markez @ Oct 17th 2008 5:15PM
Trev, what if they're secretly in love, one of those kind of things where they're just fighting to keep it hidden? Maybe he has a Drake poster above his bunk bed.
Trev @ Oct 17th 2008 5:33PM
It could be cute in the same way as puppies and kittens in the same basket, even though they probably shouldn't be. Experience says he takes everything way too far though; if he loved Sony he'd probably have a blow up doll with Kutaragi's face on it.
God, that's horrifying.
...why would I even type that?
New end boss for Dead Space confirmed.
felixlighter @ Oct 17th 2008 3:02PM
6 days is not a problem at all, though I still think the situation was handled poorly.
Cassiel @ Oct 17th 2008 3:41PM
Couldn't agree more. Why didn't they go with the most obvious of solutions: Offer two versions at the counter. They could have LBP: Qua'ran Edition and LBP: Qua'ran Lite. Everybody wins!
Bonus: We could actually track by sales whether any gamers actually gave a $%!@ about controversial lyrics or not. Hint: None would.
