@Saria the Cat

Nope.

He's not from my generation. I'm from Generation X

Generation X
noun
the generation born after that of the baby boomers (roughly from the early 1960s to mid 1970s), often perceived to be disaffected and directionless.

he was born in the 90's, about 15-20 years too late to be in my generation.

Plus, 13375p34k first appeared in the 80's. About 10-15 years too early for him to claim as something his generation thought up.

His generation uses 1337, but didn't invent it.

Ahh, but you've been using Macs and PCs for over 20 years. So unless you count your experience as beginning from age 14 or earlier you've got to be at least 35

I have been using computers since I could read dude. I only say 20 years because it was around 20 years ago when computer use became a daily activity for me.

My first computer was a Silver TRS-80 that came with a thick @$$ programing manual.

I also got a 512k Mac when it came out and I still have my old Apple //e (still works too)

But having those things when they were released, don't make me a 40-year old. Not even close.

You just said you were born from the early 60s to mid 70s. If you were born in 75, then you're only 33 or 34. Anything older than that is pushing 40. So, say you're only 33. Then you must have first been online when you're 13 to have 20 years of experience. And 20 years ago, 1988, the internet was not open to the public. That occurred in 1990. And it was until 1996, according to Wikipedia, that the word "internet" became widely used. So unless you're arguing 1337's use came around before the use of the WORD "internet," that puts me in the generation that invented 1337, and Will is not much younger than I am. And if you want to go with experience or whatever, I have also been using computers for a while. Since pre-school. I've also used Macs since age 5. So I've got over 15 years of exp. under my belt too. Haha! But if you started as early as me, then that just makes you only maybe 5 or so years older. Which is still in my generation.

Just for a heads up, the last generation Macbook played World of Warcraft pretty decently (about 25-30 FPS with decent settings), but it did not play Warhammer Online at all.

This story is pointless. You can get virtually any PC-comparable hardware for Apples if you have infinite money. Is Joystiq unaware that the limitation of Apples was/is largely due to software rather than hardware?

This isn't playing a game on a Mac. It's playing a game on a Apple laptop running XP. When playing games on a Apple computer doesn't involve dual booting or emulation, then it's news. This is like writing up that new HP laptop can run WoW.

Just poppin in to say how awesome the new update to Google this morning is. Didn't like it at first, until I realized what all was actually changed, truely impressive. Now I can have even more downtime from boredom because I can browse my feeds and info more efficently. Google is evil, but the good kind of evil, the kind you want to have debaucherous sex with.

By this morning I mean Thursday morning. I wish they would have told users they were updating google and users may experience problems. There was quite a scare with gmail, people would open the mail in another tab and be logged out repeatedly. Everyone franticly changed passwords thinking there was some security breach or something.

Indeed, some warning would have been nice. Had my account since ancient days when there was no real account security and I had been putting off a much needed update on that. Paniced a little myself and changed security questions, zip codes, password, etc.

What pol dont get is that the new macbook is using a new gpu which is way more powerful than the previous integrated gpu they used. What this means is that it is now actually possible to play games using the new macbook, which really wasnt the case with the macbook using the intel x3100-somethinf instead of nvidias new geforce 9400m! (sorry for misspelling and lack of capital letters, but im typing on my iPod ;( )

The things you guys don't realize is that while it was possible to run games on a macbook before, the macbook only had INTEL GMA which is possibly the worst card for gaming, yet the most common for notebooks to have. Now that the macbook has a substantial graphics card, the 9400 and 9600, it can actually run more modern games that the GMA couldn't come close to pulling off.

But you could still get a helluv a lot better gaming laptop for the price.

Yeah, I hope these NVIDIA chipsets really dominate the low-end notebook market soon. If this could be what people get for like $400-700 laptops, PC gaming will be a in a nice place.

I do feel that anything but the most budget desktop should have a physical graphics card, as the performance you can get, even for less than $100 nowadays, greatly exceeds the benefits of upgrading the other parts of your computer and keeping the integrated graphics.

My imac (bought new last Nov.; dunno what generation that would be) runs WoW quite well. At 1680x1050, I almost always have a framerate at or above 60 (though I've seen it get as high as 116, usually when flying), and my latency very rarely exceeds 53ms (and that's wireless). On top of that, the colors are beautiful!

...and I can right click like just fine. a quick tweak of your preferences lets you do it with just one finger, if anyone's still debating this...

Macs are so overpriced though. I rather hack OSX into a more capable machine for way less money. If gaming gateway 7811 is much faster for about $800 less. You can get an identically speced sony, except for a higher resolution screen, double the RAM and actually lighter for about $750 less

"If gaming gateway 7811 is much faster for about $800 less."

You're joking right?

The gateway laptops that I've seen have slower processors, a slower FSB speed, Slower RAM and slower videocards than the Mac Pro.

Seriously, their HIGH END laptops are running HD 2600's. All of their other laptops are running Intel integrated graphics.

There is NO WAY that a gateway laptop could be faster.

Please tell me that you aren't naive enough to think that a gateway laptop can hold a candle to a Macbook.

" You can get an identically speced sony"

Hmm

nope

Well if you had check out the laptop I mentioned above you naive twit you would have seen that I was being accurate and wouldn't look stupid right now. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gateway-p-7811fx/4505-3121_7-33201021.html check it out though the other week it was going for $1250 with a free $50 game at bestbuy. It has a way more powerful gpu, 9800gt and a much higher resolution screen than the macbook. It will easily get much higher fps with the increased resolution. As for sony just go to their website. Same processor, memory, hardrive, very dedicated gpu plus weighs less for way less money. If you weren't such an ignorant fanboy maybe you would have checked the facts before you made it obvious how you have no idea what your talking about. Moron.
@captcarl I was referring to putting OS X on normal pc parts. I agree about unix though I stay in linux platforms, been really enjoying the 8.10 ubuntu beta and love having vista and linux on the same box though you could easily add OS X as long as your components are mac compatible. There's a whole wiki page that makes it quite a streamlined process.

I think they make great hardware that is priced accordingly and their OS is all right. What pisses me off is their ads and the way they try to make it seem like every change they make is the world's greatest innovation, even if it was done on a different platform 15 years ago (multi-button mouse/scrollwheel).

Apple's thing is all chic design. The hardware they design is pretty amazing.

My MacBook is primarily used for a combination of schoolwork, and work for work. The dev kit I use for my work-related stuff is available for Windows only, hence why I need something like VMWare.

If the hardware they design is so amazing, why did they give up making their own logic?

I've been using Macs for over 10 years, and it wasn't until Apple started using PC hardware that they really got much better and even started being useful for games.

Hey, I never said Apple was perfect and I never said that there aren't funny jokes out there about Macs.

I said your 'joke' was ten years out of date. Thus was bad comedy. It's like, I was expecting Steve Urkel to come in and say "Did I do that?" in the next comment or something.

Want to see GOOD Mac VS PC jokes? Check out Joy of Tech or Supernews. Hell, In Supernews, Steve Jobs is portrayed as a bad guy and it is funny as hell.

When you say that Macs can't use multi-button mice when most mac users are using multi-button mice, you come off as a ignorant jackass.

A clear implication that Macs can't right-click.

Your original comment looked pretty much sarcastic to me.

Your joke was derivative and just plane overused. It's like, if I made a similar joke about needing a Bachelors in Computer Science in order to turn the average PC on. Lord knows neither one is true anymore.

Warhammer causes my 2.53 Ghz Macbook Pro to black screen/lockup. First time I play during the day, it takes about an hour. Subsequent crashes take less than 5 minutes. I believe the video card is overheating. In attempts to solve the problem I have tried multiple sets of drivers and putting all settings on minimum. This seems to have helped extend the time I can play before a crash, but has not solved the crashing.
