It's been seven long months since we last heard an update on Cory Barlog's video game adaptation of Mad Max. Now Barlog, best known for his work on a little thing we like to call God of War II, has posted an update on the project to his blog, though whether or not he had to saw through his own foot to get to the keyboard remains something of a mystery.
Barlog's work on the game's story with Mad Max film producer, George Miller, appears nearly done, the pair having "put the final touches on the Mad Max story and game design structure and mechanics." However, Barlog adds that they're "working with some publishers to get a deal locked down so we can start making this bad boy," so don't go expecting to hunt gangs across the dystopian Australian highways anytime soon.

Sorry but my interest in this is shaky right now cause in a couple weeks I'll pretty much be playing a mad max game (fallout 3). The only difference is my guy won't be mel gibson.
Well....that is a huge difference :(

Those are both good points...
Looks like they're a day late and dollar short
PC version could be made with a MOD for Fallout 3. You could be Mel and all!

With a good mod the change could be made though

@Ihavepants: I don't know if you're talking about the concepts or the actual games, but both are near-future post-apocalyptic settings with a male protagonist and people who have gone crazy in the aftermath of the "apocalypse."
Sure, the stories aren't exactly the same, but their settings are similar enough to warrant concern for Mad Max if released close together. It'd be like a new KOTOR and Mass Effect being released at the same time. Totally different universes, but theme similar enough to be detrimental to the games.

Fallout 3= World has been destroyed by nuclear war during the early 20th century. The result is a radioactive wasteland where life has mutated and evolved in turn. Everything is 50's styled to what they may have imagined to the future.
Mad Max= World has run out of oil/petrol sources. Movies set in Australian Outback (which is already desert now).
Similarities: Future is bad. The main character has a dog.

Ihavepants, just give up. You've lost and you're just being stubbornly lame now

What? How have I lost?
By saying that I've lost and providing no points against what I've said that isn't really how you "win" a debate.
Please do actually tell me why I'm so wrong and if they make sense I'll agree with you and have parties and fun times.

@Ihavepants: I would like to have said parties and fun times. :D Especially since we're both saying the same thing anyway. We both agree the universes are not the same. I guess our disagreement lies in how Fallout's release could take steam from Mad Max's release, and how similar the two games are in mood, etc. Either way, I still demand fun times.

No,no,no. Mad max was an excellent movie and I don't want it sullied by becoming another movie-game disaster. Let Fallout satisfy the video game industry's lust for a post apocalyptic playground. It's good, it'll sell and it won't ruin a movie that's still awesome after 30 years. "Just walk away. You can put stop to all this. Just walk away."

Dude, that was awesome! Weird but awesome thing is... My first name is Marcus! And I'm not kidding. I'm also white with a stache but I have other facial hair as well...
To the guy below... I think a mod could easily make Fallout 3 into Mad Max. Anyone that says otherwise is just stubborn

It's about time they gave us another Mad Max game. My NES cart was getting worn out.

Not only do we have the "lone man fights through the PA wastes" scenario covered by Fallout 3, we've also got the "bandits fight each other in lethally modified vehicles in the PA wastes" covered with the upcoming Rage (and arguably Borderlands). So, apart from the actual character of Mad Max, I don't think this game could bring much that would be better than these other contenders. My fear is that it will be greenlighted just as a cash-in on the movie sequel, nothing more.

It's not a post-apocalyptic wasteland, it's Central/Western Australia, the rest of the world looks fine.

OK, I stand corrected, it's a post-apocalyptic _Australian_ wasteland. Wait, I don't stand corrected, as I never said it was anything else. Why the correction?

Because it's not really post-apocalyptic. It's just that out in the desert is bad. A desert which was not caused by the "apocalypse".
Doesn't matter though, continue forthwith along your private thought train good sir.

Not post-apocalyptic? Please see:
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max_2:_The_Road_Warrior): "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (known as The Road Warrior in the U.S.) is a 1981 Australian post-apocalyptic action film."
IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082694/): "In the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, a cynical drifter agrees to help a small, gasoline rich, community escape a band of bandits."
It may not be post-nuke like Fallout, but it's certainly post-apocalyptic. It's not just about the struggle for survival in the desert, it's about the struggle for survival in a world where natural resources have been depleted to the extent that civilization has collapsed. Hence all the fighting over gasoline, the lack of electricity, and the completely lawless wasteland. You don't find marauding bands of spike-clad barbarians driving souped-up killing machines in the Outback, you need the world to go to hell first. If you need more proof, check out the end of MM3:BT, where we see the ruins of Sydney, proof that this societal breakdown wasn't limited to Central/Western Australia.

Wait. How could they possibly have put the final touches on the game design and structure if they haven't even started making it yet? Have they forgot of a little thing called "testing?"
