We've seen "help wanted" ads coming from Blizzard for more than a year now, asking for developers to offer their services on a "Next-Gen MMO". Following the respective announcements of Starcraft II and Diablo III, however, the rumor mill stopped revolving on this particular topic. We expect prognostication to pick up following this recent revelation from Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime -- whatever the new project is, "it's not going to be a World of Warcraft sequel."
Not only will this news lift the spirits of those who can now rekindle their hopes for a Lost Vikings MMO, it should reassure Azerothians who may have feared that their MMO of choice might be replaced. According to Morhaime, Blizzard has no intentions of replacing their cash cow, hoping instead to create a new title that can operate alongside WoW. Our productivity shudders at this notion.

Yeah- Blizzard fussing over WoW too much. Starcraft rules!
Blizzard like WoW the most just because people pay for it.
Enough of this WoW crap!

World of StarCraft does sound plausible, considering that it was rumored to replace StarCraft 2. But I'd bet my money on a Diablo MMORPG instead.

A Diablo MMO would conflict too much with the fan base playing Diablo 3. A Starcarft MMO however would cater for a completely different audience to the RTS.

Reboot took the words out of my mouth. How would a Diablo MMO possibly make sense, especially considering they said they don't want anything to replace WoW?
A game that can exist alongside it would only be a new futuristic franchise of some sort, or Starcraft. And guess which of those two any company would go with? Hint: not the one that doesn't have a huge existing fanbase highly anticipating an MMO based on it.

WHEW!
World of Lost Vikings would be awesome but there's no possibly way they can invent enough puzzles. Puzzles require intense effort to create well, not like 'another hill, another monster, another quest'.

They'd have to pull the map out from in-game if they do make it. Hard to get lost when you have a map.

I hope it isn't anything to do with Starcraft. Sure, blizzard has some great IPs but I'd like to see something completely different. A whole new world, story, characters etc. Nothing to do with wacraft, diablo or starcraft.

How about if they were to do correctly all the things Richard Garriott promised for Tabula Rasa: a sci-fi-based, action-RPG, with instanced group quests, wouldn't rely on grind, etc.?

There is NOTHING modern about the "warfare" in COD4. Not a damn thing except maybe the gun models. If anything it would be more suited for a WWII, which makes since because it's just COD2 with sprinting and a few gimmics. Nothing modern about running around chaoticly tossing grenades into the sky. Modern warfare has to deal with collateral damage, friendly fire, and is a great deal more conservative because we don't have the sheer number of meat puppets to toss at the enemy like we use to.

They said it'd be a new IP... so no new Rock and Roll Racing Online.

Oh man, I found it.
It won't be high fantasy and it most likely won't be set in space.
I actually _WANT_ a Galaxy of Starcaft.

Frankly, I don't give a damn what their next MMO is. With SC2 and D3, that ought to keep me plenty occupied for several years. And MMO's never interested me anyways.

What was bad about Tabula Rasa? I played it and it was kinda tough in places for me because I tend to go solo... which, yes, defeats the purpose of "MMO" anyway, I digress. I found it enjoyable. Except for one quest which frustrated the crap out of me, but it was quite satisfying to beat it.

Ryoga Vee,
Ihavepants,
I like the idea, a "World of Star Craft" or a "Galaxy of Starcaft MMO" might be cool, unfortunately I don't play to many MMOs. At one time I played World Of Warcraft a lot, but I had to stop because I couldn't afford it. The monthly fee was killing him.

I hope it's not based on any of their current properties. MMOdifying (see what I did there?) something like Starcraft would pretty much mean the end of the plotline. At least Diablo was always about numbers... But I really don't want another medieval fantasy MMO.

I... I see what you did there!
Y'know, it would be cool to see a Lost Vikings game where instead of controlling all three Vikings yourself, it's like co-op with other people like what Valve are doing with L4D but with less zombies and more vikings.
Maybe some sort of Viking / Portal crossover.

Well this is the thing - in order to make the same kind of money that they do off WoW, they need to make something that the masses will know is from 'the people who did WoW'.
So 'World of Starcraft' would sell like hotcakes but 'World of Lost Vikings' sounds like a really bad german RPG.

I hope Activision-Blizzard kept one very special Sierra owned IP, they could put those Swingin' Ape Studios guys to work on something not super blizzardy...

Take the "innovative" parts of EVE, i.e. training skills while offline and having everyone on the same, huge server, and make sure that you're not doing ANOTHER fantasy game. Then I might try it out...
...but oh wait what I just described IS EVE. Because EVE is awesome.
