Last week, Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification breathed new life into a rumor that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, which many had believed to be a casualty in the Activision-Vivendi merger, had found a new publisher in THQ -- info made public when the OFLC stamped the game with an MA 15+ rating. A few days ago, the rumor seemed to become concrete -- the British Board of Film Classification has assigned Fiddy an "18" rating, also attributing the game to THQ.
While it now seems like incontrovertible fact that Blood on the Sand is still quite alive and well, THQ recently told British gaming news site MCV that they could not comment on "the rumour" -- either a testament to THQ's bizarre hype-building practices, or to the unfathomable excellence of the resurrected game.

Seriously, does anyone want a game just because it has Fiddly in it?

Imagine that you don't know who 50 Cent is, and somebody told you you were looking at a trailer for Mercenaries 3 or something. It looks like just about everything you'd want in this sort of game. Yeah it could suck, but it looks fun.
I could take the argument "Seriously, does anyone want a game just because it has Fiddly in it?" and hand you the near-converse, "Why do you not want to consider a game's potential for 'fun' just because Fiddy's in it?"
And Wiizer... "The fact that this game needs someone to explain its value does not bode well for its replay value... nor its monetary value."
Eh, buddy, people are just trying to help you out from potentially missing out on something that might be great tongue-in-cheek ridiculous fun. As for explaining 'a point' to it's value, I think you're missing the entire point yourself: the 'value' here is that this game has one of the top-selling music stars from the last decade as its brand, something that will reach out and connect to more people that are less than die-hard videogame blog readers, setting it apart from generic versions of the same game type, as well as probably having a bangin' soundtrack if you buy into the whole 50 Cent 'brand' in the first place.
Paraphrasing an old quote: "Those who need an explanation will never understand, while those who understand will need no explanation."

If you take out the Fiddly branding then it gets even worse. You're left with what looks like a ridiculous Gear of War shooter with some God of War quick-time kills. All done in a Middle East setting.
With so many games to play what on earth makes this stand up out of the muck?

Not to sound prudish, but I have a feeling that the general rejection of this game from the Internet Gamers Association(c) is primarily driven by his preferred genre, and, as a consequence, his race.
If this was Michael Stipe, running about in a field, throwing flowers and lattes at shadow people, it wouldn't have garnered nearly as much wholesale rejection. Hell, if it was Eminem, Aesop Rock*, or Atmosphere, the reaction would have been muted disapproval, but muted all the same. Now, shove out 50 Cent, or Jim Jones, Rick Ross*...and everybody hates it. Contradiction much?
*I am in no way a fan of any the artists mentioned

My problem with the game is that it is not merely a licensed property but a vehicle to fuel 50 Cent's ego. He is a badass superman mowing down the bad guys with his assault rifle. Tough attitudes always rub me the wrong way.
Also, Def Jam Vendetta was a well received game.

or maybe everyone hates it because this is the series that proved that people will eat anything up as long as it has the face of a mainstream 'artist' on the cover.

I hate, neigh, LOATHE rap cos it's just people talking all this crap about how many chicks they've done and who they did last night and how smooth they tried to be and how sexy the girls are and all the music videos and songs are derogatory to women.
But am I racist? No. I just have a proper taste in what actually classifies as 'music'.

@ Bowser
Eminem pwns 50 Cent all the way imho, but he doesn't act like a "gangsta who can fuck everbody up, niggas and hos!" so the analogy of replacing 50 Cent with him going to fight in Iraq isn't very smart.

...LAME. If you were open to different kinds of music you'd know that that's not what rap and hip hop are, and that to take what is popular in the mainstream and act as though that's all that the genre is... well, I could do that right now by saying ALL music sucks.
Yeah, mainstream hip hop sucks. From your definition, though, it's incredibly obvious that you have no experience with it outside of the mainstream and that you're quick to generalize a whole genre. And that ticks me off a bit. Especially since there are plenty of quality artists out there who never get the recognition they deserve 'cuz of folks like you.

TFoK has a valid point, I'm quite strongly into metal but I wouldn't dream of listening to any of the 'metal' that gets played on MTV and gets into the charts.
And I have a friend who's into rap and the stuff he listens to (and I have as well) is obscure and nearly without exception pretty good.

Activision should have kept this game.
It will probably score in the mid 70's but most importantly: it will sell very very well.

It's hard to believe a games like this managed to find a new publisher and yet a game - with more potential, in my opinion - like brutal legend has yet to find a publisher. I mean, maybe this game will be good, but I would much rather see publishers support games that could bring more forth to the table. Plus, I like the games that Tim Schafer has come up with =D

I'm actually looking forward to this. It's looking like the videogame equivalent of a B-Movie, and I think if I rent it for a weekend and play it I'll probably be satisfied.
And the storyline is just too good to pass up.

Storyline: 50 just rocked some awesome show in Indiscriminatemiddleeasttownazhan and they're in the middle of a war. But woe is 50, for he does not receive his pay! So what does he do? HE DEMANDS THE COUNTRIES MOST TREASURED ARTIFACT! a HUMAN SKULL with DIAMONDS in it. Well on the way to the aeroport, BOMBS! and his skull is taken. So 50, with his gangsta rage along with g-unit, must fight everyone to get his diamond skull back.
Btw, I'm not kidding.

And that story is what is going to make it awesome. The movie Evil Dead had just as stupid storyline, and yet some hail it as the best B-movie ever.

I was going to compliment you on coming up with a completely ridiculous storyline off the top of your head that made absolutely no sense. I didn't scroll all the way down because I was rolling with laughter. Then I read the btw, now I'm sad.

This game should have a classification for it's mental age of 8 as well so kids don't possibly mistake it for maturity.

The only thing i can possibly imagine being more horrible than this game actually seeing the light of day, would be for the game to actually be good, and for a few reasons.
A. Commercials for this all over tv, telling me how MEGA AWESOME TITS 50's new game is, and how my life will never be the same without having the power to jump in with a friend as my favorite member of g-unit and kill terrorists
B. Neighbour kids, after having a tantrum in the store, convince their parents to buy this game for them. Later that week, these kids are doing watergun drive bys in their battery powered mini jeep.
C. My friends are idiots, atleast 2 of them will buy the game, and at some point will try and make me play it. Or, make me endure watching a play session of this game, because it's "tiiiight!".
D. Oh god, a sequel! FFFFUUUUUUU-
