It appears director John Moore's fight for the film's PG-13 rating was well placed and he can laugh at all the critic's negative reviews while he counts his money. Wonder if this guarantees a Max Payne 2: Fall of Max Payne sequel?
Max Payne movie tops box office
60
Estimates for this week's box office have Max Payne (the movie) grossing $18 million during its opening weekend. Reuters reports that Marky Mark Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg's take on the (seemingly) constipated detective capped Beverly Hills Chihuahua, which slipped to the #2 spot with $11.2 million.
It appears director John Moore's fight for the film's PG-13 rating was well placed and he can laugh at all the critic's negative reviews while he counts his money. Wonder if this guarantees a Max Payne 2: Fall of Max Payne sequel?

I'm Mark Wahlberg and I don't enjoy your impersonation. If I weren't a church going man, I'd probably break your head. But since I am, I won't. I once starred in planet of the apes (the remake) so you should show me some respect.
Oh and say hello to your mother for me, okay?

Oh wow, somehow I had missed those two skits, but seeing all these comments made me check it out. And I gotta say, that's easily some of the funniest SNL material I've ever seen - and I'm not exactly a fan as of the last ummm... decade or so. The real Mark Wahlberg talking to a donkey was just priceless.

I'm still confused about what happened to Jenova's head. (By the way, did Seph even have one wing in FF7, or did they tack it on for Kingdom Hearts? Then again, I still don't see why FF7 is t3h greatest thing ever, and I probably never will.)

With movie ticket prices these days, only about 18 people bought tickets!
Just joking; but I don't think $18 million is a 'huge' opening for a movie...

I saw it and going in I figured it would blow complete ass but after seeing it I was pretty impressed, it wasn't the greatest movie ever but they followed the story of the game pretty well and it was still pretty entertaining, even after a slow start.

Yeah, I agree to an extent.
I really wish they had kept the "mega snowstorm + 1 night 'rampage'" a bit more but other than that the story was a pretty good adaptation for a game that mostly relied on Max Payne talking to himself.
It was a 'crap' movie but at least it was a good crap movie. That's a big step up for video game movies.

well, Dark Knight holds the record with $158 million to put it in perspective...
however, whether a box office opening is 'good' or not really depends on how much money was needed to make the movie.
Max Payne took about $35 million (compared to dark knight's $185 million). So technically, Dark Knight did better, insofar as making a profit (ratio-wise) -- neither recouped fully in the first opening weekend (which is rare to do), but Dark Knight was clearly primed to turn a profit. Meanwhile, Max Payne could very well drop like a rock if the word on the street from this weekend's film-goers is negative enough to keep other people away. It won't match it's opening weekend take, so it will take at least another two, possibly 3 weeks to turn a profit...and a film that isn't a blockbuster is pretty much dead after the third week.
So, a sequel? only if the film produces enough buzz and profits...in which case, this opening weekend isn't terribly a terribly positive indicator. It probably won't warrant a sequel.

ATTENTION FANS OF THE GAME:
There's plenty of parts of the movie that will make you smile with giddy glee at the similarity to the game. Roscoe Street? Perfect. The scene in his house where his family's killed? Great. The ONE bullet time scene? Yeah.
Okay, I guess there were two scenes which were slowed down... but come on. That's like Matrix or Hard Boiled no bullet time. It's a defining characteristic. Along with using painkillers. And no, he didn't use any painkillers either.
VERY slow-moving, VERY dull plot development, VERY few parts that reminded me of the game, VERY hot Mila Kunis. That is all.

The scariest part about this article is that Beverly Hill Chihuahua made $11.2 million.
In all honesty, that looks like the dumbest move ever made. Even for children.

Well, people went to see "Legally Blond". And we all know that there are a lot of really, really dumb people out there. So why not? I rented some Kurosawa films and stayed home.

How was Wahlberg's acting? After I watched The Happening I lost all respect for him as an actor, if his abilities have gone up a notch I may find it in my heart to rent this film.

He's a good actor sometimes, have you seen "The Departed", "Italian Job" or "I Heart Huckabees"? The movie just got the "video game curse", it would have sucked even if young Clint Eastwood was in it.

i think the Italian Job is one of his worst performances... i think Mark Wahlberg can be great, and he can also be TERRIBLE... i don't know if it's the directors he works with, the scripts, or just his reaction to the material, but in some movies he seems to be just sleepwalking through it for a paycheck, while in others he seems to really be "going for it".
the Departed, Boogie Nights, I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings, are all good examples of him "going for it"... while Planet of The Apes, the Italian Job and the Happening are examples of the worst he has to offer.

That is true... but currently I am going to school outside the US. I saw Max Payne and it only cost me about $1.50 to watch it. If you convert it.
I was pretty much the only person there in a room.
The room seats about 200-300 people. Yikes... I know.

Hey buddy, I'm not your Pal.
Max Payne had some pretty bad Bullet-time.
Like at the end... did that really have to be in Bullet-time? Shooting someone at that range with nothing going on?
I am replaying Max Payne 2 Kung-Fu Edition 3 to heal the damage the movie has done.

Do you really only go to movies other people tell you they like? Most people go to the movies to lay back and relax, not to judge in numbers and fractions how much they liked something compared to the last thing they saw.
