SOCOM: Confrontation trophies to be patched in soon
27
Would-be digital soldiers were disappointed this week to find that the recently released SOCOM: Confrontation was launched sans trophies. We're not exactly sure why, though rumor has it that the title's much-coveted cups just weren't shiny enough. According to Sony PR rep Jennifer Clark, "The trophies will become available via patch in the coming weeks." In the mean time, highly skilled players will be mailed postcards which, depending on the level of militaristic prowess displayed in-game, will be adorned with gold star stickers, or scratch-n'-sniff stickers in the shape of a bundle of grapes, proudly displaying the words "Grape Job!"

It wasn't just launched without trophies, it was seemingly launched without servers!

and stable code. The game is fun to play when I'm not being kicked out of games or restarting my frozen system. Also, its not recording my stats. Great.

The couple people I know that bought it last week all say the exact same thing. A seemingly great game hammered by an inability to properly play. Hopefully Sony (and the studio that developed SOCOM Confrontation) have this issue fixed soon.

Bought it on Friday and I haven't been able to play it yet. network connection fails....I want my money back.
Now I'm hooked on Dead Space, Tuesday is fable, then Gears and after playing the beta COD: world at war. I won't have time for this game.
Sony pissed me off. Knowing this multiplayer only game isn't working they are still selling it on PSN (where I bought it) and not imforming customers...I hate PSN

Well I took turns playing with my friend for FOUR hours today and it was rock solid the whole time. The game is a lot of fun.. Comparing to it Bad Company I don't know if its quite as fun but its better in some ways. Once they patch it and fix a few bugs it'll be awesome.

It's fantastic when its working, but when the servers start getting taxed my PS3 freezes, and I get disconnected from games. Another thing is trophies aren't the only thing missing.
There is no quickmatch option, the in-game game invites are nowhere to be found, neither are the clan ladder matches. All of these are either listed as features on the box or in the manual.

*Remembers Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Halo 3 servers crapping out on release*
Seriously guys, calm down. The servers are getting MUCH better as each day passes. The game is very playable, with not as much visible lag as before. It's amazing. Old school SOCOM. I'm confident that next week, this will all be gone.

All of which had a single player option. SOCOM=Sit, wait, get on, get booted -> Sit wait, get on, get booted -> repeat

I think that they should've added some target practice for single player or something. SOCOM doesn't need a campaign. There would be no reason for Slant Six to spend all their time on a campaign when they can spend that time making a multiplayer game. The server issues have nothing to do with their polishing of the game. It has to do with the amount of users going and playing it. The good thing for me is that I bought SOCOM and FIFA 09, so if I have a problem with SOCOM, I'll go hop in FIFA and come back after a while all happy :)

SOCOM is an awesome game, I just bought my ps3 2 days ago with socom and I can't lie when the game works, I have a BLAST, but it sucks that it's multiplayer only cause when it doesn't work my ps3 is useless :/ but I like it none the less
can anyone reccomend some good ps3 games (besides LBP cause I'm gettin that and drakes uncharted)?

I would get Saint's Row 2, Dead Space, and some upcoming releases like Resistance 2, Far Cry 2, and maybe Fallout 3 if you like that. Also since you have PSN I would suggest downloading Burnout Paradise (it is one of my favorite online games! Oh and how could I forget MGS4!

I'll stick to games exclusive to the PS3
MGS4 - A well made game, must have in my opinion
Warhawk - Its like Tribes! Check out the demo
Pixel Junk Monsters/Eden - fun tower defense game/fun platformer
Super Stardust HD - Like Geometry Wars only not 2-D
Wipeout - If you like that kind of racing game
Uncharted - Never played it but heard good things
My Sing Star - If you like Karaoke, never played it
Ratchet and Clank - Never played it but had good reviews
Some of the games mentioned above are available through the PSN, there are more games available for download and most are very good so check it out.

You made me slightly angry when you said "Drake's Uncharted."
You could have left "Drake's" out and not sound like a retarded chimp.

I havent had any trouble getting kicked out or connecting, a few lag spikes here and there, but overall its a fun game. With a patch or two and a few more servers, it'll be up and running with little problems in no time

Also, Sony really needs to provide some kind of aid to developers using dedicated servers.
They're supposed to be an advantage over p2p, but this is the 4th time now we've seen releases absolutely botched by a poor job by the developers implementing those servers.
With as many things as get screwed up on the PS3 side to which everyone claims "it's the developers fault", why not give some aid to said developers (or make certain things mandatory that they haven't thusfar) so they don't all keep ending up with the same problems?
