Max Payne has an emotionless face not even his own mother loves. 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller, whose studio produced the Max Payne games, has added his voice to the mass of critics showing displeasure with the film adaptation. Speaking to Edge, Miller said, "There are several fundamental story flaws ... in the film that have me shaking my head in bewilderment."
We don't want to spoil any plot points for the three or four of you out there still wanting to see it, but Miller opines (negatively) about the portrayal of Payne, Beau Bridge's character B.B. and the drug lord Lupin, as well the structure of the narrative -- specifically, not showing that Payne is driven by the death of his family until well into the movie. "Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him," he said.
Despite some (very valid) complaints, Max Payne topped this past weekend's box office. Meanwhile, we're still trying to empathize with Miller while waiting for any snippets of Duke Nukem Forever to arise.

Okay, so they watch movies instead of making DNF? No wonder it's taken them so long. Someone needs to cut their funding.

I'm calling bs, it was very obvious that something happened to his family near the beginning of the movie. Also I'm tired of this bandwagon hate that the internet is giving the movie, this isn't BloodRayne.

Did you know Bloodrayne 2 released? I mean, wtf? Yeah, I know, I saw the ad in the newspaper this morning and almost squirted tea from my nostrils.

I agree. This moron shouldn't even be allowed to criticize anything. At least with Max Payne, they 1. said there will be a Max Payne movie. 2. Filmed it. and 3. Released it.
That's two more steps that they got around to that you never will, Scott. And guess what? The movie wasn't even announced 10 years ago. Bottom line, a company that keeps talking about an obvious BS non-existent game shouldn't be allowed to talk...about anything. ever.

There's a story?

Both Payne games were pretty story heavy. The story was actually deeper and better than the movie imo.

Well it's obvious that 3D Realms wanted to write the script. They were planning on doing it after finishing Duke Nukem Forever.

Ross, I think it's fair to say there's many, many, many more than 4 people who still want to see this. I'm sure I might still be able to enjoy the movie despite others having their own opinions about it. I've liked lots of movies that have been panned by critics.
Seriously though, I think we should do a movie together sometime, what's that all about?

The only fundamental flaw in this situation is the expectation that a video game based movie wouldn't be a complete piece of shit.

Everyone, look on the bright side, it could have been made by Mr Boll :D

Haha, but one cant help to imagine how much more could it suck. To think that Boll is one of the few directors to be able to create black holes out of nothing but tons of monies, cameras , and b-list celebs.

Actually, the sad thing about the Boll movies (each one I've seen so far) is that they are well made from a technical point of view. The equipment is good, the costumes are good, the shots are well selected (at least Postal and Dungeon Siege had good camera work) and he manages to get some fairly decent actors to make the mistake once. On the other hand I also agree that his movies are completely crap because this guy just doesn't know jack shit about telling a story, making a script believable or motivating his actors to give a good performance. I hate Uwe Boll just as much as the next guy but technically he's fairly good. Only his skills as a director are a freaking nightmare.
And don't forget Jason Statham. B-list celebrity? B has to stand for Badass in this case.

The fact that its temporarily at #1 and isn't a good movie doesn't surprise me in the least.

I don't get why people didn't like this movie. I for one liked it...especially for the fact that it's a video game movie that didn't suck. While it may have deviated from the games, it still has a nice story to tell. Though one thing I do agree with is the family dying moment....should have been at the start of the movie and not at the middle. Thank you...that is all.

Call me crazy but one cop tells another that his family was murdered in the first five minutes. Good to see someone was paying attention...

Gees, I can't stand how anal people are. Kudos to everyone so far who has actually seen this movie before judging it. No, it wasn't the best movie in the world. No, it didn't follow the game storylines.
This wasn't the games. This was a two hour movie that had a lot of story to condense from thirty-or-so hours worth of gameplay. It was stylistically interesting and very reminiscent of classic noir film. Even though I knew where it was going, I thought the movie was very compelling and the actors played their parts very well. And no, Mark Wahlberg is not terrible. I thought he played the character just fine.
Scott Miller must think very negatively of the movie going public. Not ten minutes into the movie, the audience is told plainly, "his wife and kid were killed." I don't know how much more obvious the filmmakers can get than that. The best thing to do is just go see the movie. It's easily better than 90% of videogame and comic book movies, and certainly worth watching.
