We've received a couple reports this evening that
some copies of the
Fable II Limited Collector's Edition package do not contain the cards required for the in-game
DLC content. A GameStop source tells us a company wide email notes that cases bearing an orange "48 hours of LIVE"' sticker include the cards, but copies without the sticker do not.
Although we've only heard about this being a GameStop issue so far, the same situation could be occurring at other retailers. We've contacted both Microsoft and GameStop for comment.
Allegedly customers are being told by GameStop to contact 1-800-4MYXBOX if they receive a copy of the CE without the card inside. We contacted the number and were informed that it was the correct place to call if we didn't receive the DLC card in the box. Midnight launches start in about 15 minutes on the East Coast, so we'll probably hear more about this issue soon.
Update: We've since learned this is a
Microsoft issue and that the company is "implementing a plan to address it" by Oct. 28. We'll make a new post when we find out exactly what that plan is.
[Thanks to those who helped with this.]

Crazy! I hope this all gets settled. I want my weapons and armor!
Thanks for the info Alexander. :-)

Here is the update of my affair with microsoft over the DLC card I didn't get. Called the 22nd only to be told to call back on the 28th. Told today to go to the support page and fill out a ford with my windows live id. Said if I fill this out a code will be emailed to me within 5 business days. Oh but wait thats not it theres more!!! I fill it out and now it says "You will be sent a code in 10 business days"... what happened to the 5 they just told me about? And what are they doing to compensate for this? NOTHING at all my extra $10 is floating around in nowhere because microsoft is taking its damn time to deal with this. So I commented to the rep on the phone and said "10 more days?, so I can be expecting to have to wait till atleast the first week of november?" and then Apoo says "yes that is to be expected" -.-
Im done now, beware Limited holders, your angst isn't going away this week.
MatthewRex @ Oct 30th 2008 11:49PM
I'm more or less just disappointed that we paid $10 for nothing more than a DVD that could of very well been included in the standard edition.
But I haven't given up on LEs all together. I just got Fallout3's LE and it is fantastic.

Nick the Hero of Canton @ Oct 21st 2008 12:23AM
Jeez, they really managed to fuck up just about every aspect that made the collector's edition worth it.
Envoy @ Oct 21st 2008 12:31AM
Pretty much...
Vidikron @ Oct 21st 2008 12:56AM
No doubt. This must be the worst Collector's Edition ever... at least when compared to what was initially promised. I'm surprise that MS has allowed this to happen on a flagship game considering they are the publisher. I know some of the stuff was beyond their control, but they don't seem to have made any real effort to replace what has been removed. They've just allowed the CE to degrade over time and haven't seemed to give a damn.
rainking187 @ Oct 21st 2008 2:19AM
Halo 3 gets a cat helmet but they can't even remember to put the DLC card in the box? Did they have like one guy working on this LE or what?
dwhite @ Oct 21st 2008 9:01AM
Could have been worse. They could have licensed a song for the sound track that caused a global recall... oooooohhhhhh
Just kidding. Seriously, I am picking up my copy after work and you can trust and believe I will want the one with the sticker on it. :)
SuperGayParade @ Oct 21st 2008 12:32AM
Can someone tell me how an open world works with two disks?
benjor0x0r @ Oct 21st 2008 12:40AM
Actually the second disc you see there is the extra features (music, making of documentary, etc). The game fits entirely on 1 disc.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 21st 2008 12:49AM
If it's anything like the first fable (which some of the reviews seem to be indicating) then it's not much of an open world.
SuperGayParade @ Oct 21st 2008 12:57AM
Ahh, my bad. Y'all enjoy impregnating them womens.

smut @ Oct 21st 2008 1:13AM
I picked my copy up tonight at Gamestop. It was missing the card, the store told me to call the xbox 1800 number. I haven't done that yet, I am not even sure if they are open this late.
Vidikron @ Oct 21st 2008 1:15AM
Hours of operation (every day):
9:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. Eastern Time
6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time
They just closed a few minutes ago.
smut @ Oct 21st 2008 1:37AM
Thanks for the info Vid. I just read on the xbox site that they are working on a resolution and it'll be ready by the 28th. Kinda lame that I gotta wait a week to use the stuff that I bought the LE for.
Cocobean @ Oct 21st 2008 1:21AM
I hope it's in mine, I got a call this morning telling me it was in early so i'll check and report back soon.
Jono Stars @ Oct 21st 2008 1:28AM
you know, I first promised Gamestop I'd pay them $80 for this collector's edition, but due to paycheck manufacturing malfunctions, I had to offer them $30.
Atomicwaist @ Oct 21st 2008 6:33PM
Do you work for Microsoft? Cuz that is the only way I can buy that argument :p
Wil @ Oct 21st 2008 2:04AM
Where are you guys getting your midnight copies? I live in a large city (Las Vegas) but am not aware of any place that is releasing at midnight. WalMart, perhaps, but they've let me down in the past ("It's in back but we won't be putting it out until morning stock."). Any ideas? ONE HOUR!
Haggard @ Oct 21st 2008 7:07AM
I'm confused, the stereotype is that Americans never walk anywhere; but all the guys on Joystiq never order anything off amazon?!
Nytemare @ Oct 21st 2008 2:08AM
Once upon a time, in a land of honesty, I payed for a Limited Edition copy of Fable II that game with all kinds of goodies! Fate Cards, adorable Hobbe figure, some other bonus stuff, all packed in a splendid premium box! But then the evil, menacing producers, or what have you, came in and stripped it all away.
Did they give me anything in return you say? No, they did not. They stripped away all that was good in the box, including the box!
And then, in the end, they ship me the game, in a standard case with a label saying "limited edition" so brightly on the front, along with "other bonus stuff". To top it all off, my young ones, the "bonus stuff" was "accidentally" misplaced.
So what is the moral of this story you say? Simply this, take-backs are a mean, unkind thing to do. Now run along back to your home before you get cold.
Tamer Brad @ Oct 21st 2008 3:17AM
Update: We are receiving reports from users indicating that their Fable 2 Collector's Edition did not include a copy of Fable 2.
dark_inchworm @ Oct 21st 2008 9:07AM
I'm not upset you beat me to the joke, but I am perplexed because it took over a dozen comments for anyone to come to it.
KenC @ Oct 21st 2008 3:51AM
Mine did not have the sticker but has the DLC card, but it is missing the 48hour code. lol Not that it matter to me I got Live for two more years.
Anticrawl @ Oct 21st 2008 5:39AM
Glad I downgraded to the standard edition and put my extra cash towards the awesome collectors edition of Fallout 3. You know the one with the uber sweet lunchbox tin and bobble head.
I'm going to support both big Ubisoft games this fall/winter because Ubisoft offers free upgrades to the Collectors Edition to those who preorder. That is how it should be from now on for all companies.
Snowblind @ Oct 21st 2008 6:10AM
Don't know how it works in the US, but in the UK the collectors editions price was reduced to the same as the regular game, making it pointless NOT to get. Frankly I never cared about the cards and the figure would have been nice, but was hardly important.
The content was really the only reason to get it, the fact they've managed to screw that up as well is really bad, but at least it's something that can easily be fixed.
I hope they haven't made the same mistake with the UK version on Thursday though.
Silicon Siren @ Oct 21st 2008 7:55AM
I also will support the new Collector's Edition practices for their future games. The collectors editions will be limited and awarded only to loyal customers, and those are ones who will pre order said game and purchase it day one. They give you a free upgrade, seems fair, they reward you for loyalty and not from extra cash which seems silly. They might as well just have the regular and limited editions of games (the limited just being a preorder inscentive and no added price) then sell off the swag extra for people who want it. Be it art books, bobble heads or lunch boxes. Then people can pick and choose. Everyone makes the same ammount of money but you build customer/brand loyalty and make your customers happier which means more blind spindnig your way.
Ubisoft truly is on to something here. We should support them and maybe the rest will follow suit.
I got the regular edition of Fable 2 just based on how poorly the LE was handled.
It's a fun game so far, takes a good hour or two to truely appreciate the game but it is indeed fun. I love running my own bar and making money and gettin drunk with the mister and passin out together upstairs in the beds.
Silicon Siren @ Oct 21st 2008 8:02AM
So far it's been very, "Man just one more minute then I'll kill that report, shower and get into work" then "A few more seconds then I'll save and do the report and skip shower" then skip ahead, "Ok one more second, I'll skip the report and spray a lot of cologue and chew some gum" then finally call in sick to work because you are now sick between the Amphetimes you were trying to use to finish Fable and the reports all at once in record time and end up calling in sick because now ou are sick from mixed medications and now left to groan in bed for a while when you could have just been at work, left early and played fable the right way...
Yep pretty much that so far. I gotta go throwup a few more times then I'm gonna take a nap.
Anticrawl @ Oct 21st 2008 8:24AM
OMG OMG Naomi Armitage! Woot, you are my new best friend.
SugarDaddy @ Oct 21st 2008 9:00AM
Or, you know, you could just put that extra cash towards another game and not get some worthless bobble head or lunch box tin. At least the Fable 2 content gives you something you could actually use in the game.
Hey, that's just me though. To each his/her own.
Matias @ Oct 21st 2008 8:30AM
Eventhough I didnt order the collectors edition I picked up my copy last night and played for about 2 hours. Trust me once you get into the game you really dont care if you got the extra dungeon or not.
YOUR PLAYING FABLE II !
CaptainDbag @ Oct 21st 2008 9:54AM
So now that its out and being played, has anyone noticed a punishment for using the Pub Games cheat?
MatthewRex @ Oct 21st 2008 11:18AM
Unfortunately, yes. When I first heard about the "glitch" in Pub Games, I wanted to try it out just to see how it worked (I was curious). I didn't abuse it, I just tried it to see if it actually worked.
Now my character has 500 Corruption points. I'm hoping as I progress through the game, I can redeem myself!
It seems the "glitch" was intentional after all. I didn't even carry over a lot of money from Pub Games.
CyberKnight @ Oct 21st 2008 11:10AM
So what happens when you call the support line?
What happens if, say, you didn't order the LE, but called up and pretended that you did? Not that anyone would *do* that, of course, just hypothetically speaking...
flameofdoom666 @ Oct 21st 2008 12:41PM
They ask you for the seriel number and such.
ADRIAN @ Oct 21st 2008 1:54PM
I got the game from my local gamestop and it had the cards. We went to our local walmarts and they didn't have it. They said their shipment was wonky and should get LBP and Fable 2 in the next 2 days. According to a few forums on microsofts website the games were manufactured in two different plants (sound familiar NES fans). Also Walmart was actually getting the recall on LBP confused and recalling Fable 2. Hence why there are a few asshats on ebay selling LBP. Oh and having a dog for a companion is great, except if he is glitchy as hell. Also in co-op you would expect to be able to bring your own character into the game but no. Sorry for the rambling but I honestly collect the stuff that comes in the collectors editions so I am a litte ticked.
Cowbane @ Oct 21st 2008 2:58PM
Oct 28 The Day of Seasoning Attack. (dosattack) They will round up all of the people with the special edition games, the people with "seasoning" and they will kill them all, thus silencing any protests.
Player2 @ Oct 27th 2008 3:25AM
I purchased the LE from GameStop. Didn't get my stuff. *sigh*
Still wondering how a bonus disk with stuff you can see for free online is worth $10.
Also, this game is full of some terrible glitches. Got stuck in an alley between two houses in the market, fence was too tall to hop and couldn't get back through the gap which I came through. My stupid dog gets stuck in a loop walking in circles. I got stuck between a bush and a fence in the middle of battling Hobbes. And at night you go into peoples homes and try to steal things because the house is empty, you hear snoring, but there is nobody in the beds! Kind of important programming left out eh?
So, I emailed the company about all of them, they are annoyed by it, probably going to be a long while before an update comes out. *sigh* I could have payed on Gears of War with that $10.
On another note, the GameStop I go to always gives us free swag. At the midnight release we got one of the oversized gamebox displays. Another time we went to GameStop and found the Limited Edition of a game we bought a few weeks prior, we were going to buy the Limited and trade in the other but the dude said "I thought you guys owned this game already" then he game us the fancy case, art book and poster for free, and just kept the game. One disappointment wont stop me from preordering overpriced games from them.
Really wanted the Master Chief stuff thought....
Player2 @ Oct 27th 2008 3:42AM
Also, we should all learn from this and remember to wish Microsoft a Happy Hanukkah.
Jacob @ Oct 27th 2008 5:58AM
my fable disc got broken, scratched by my 360 people make sure it's lying down. Due to the amount of data on the disc they can't be scratched otherwise they don't work. By the time I get my new fable le fallout 3 will be out
