New games this week: Fable 2 edition
We're giving the top spot, the crown, the brass ring to Fable 2, but this is a terrifyingly good week for video game releases. There's a whole host of terrific-looking games like FarCry 2, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Legendary, the list goes on. Oh, and Wii Music. Sorry, almost forgot.
So, which will you be picking up this week, and which will you put onto the backburner, to retrieve only when you've sated yourself with your main gaming course?

I don't want to say I'm putting anything on the "backburner," because that has a negative connotation. I will say that I've spent almost $200 in games the last few weeks, and the ones I'm really looking forward to (Fallout 3/Left 4 Dead/COD5) aren't even out yet.
I just started Dead Space last night after finishing the new Brothers in Arms, and I have to complete that game before moving on to anything else.
This is going to be a rad winter.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 20th 2008 9:38AM
Dead Space is pretty awesome so far. I'm hella impressed with how streamlined the controls, interface, and camera are, especially after recently playing Too Human, Siren: Blood Curse, and Silent Hill: Homecoming. Plus, it looks so good. I hope that EA Redwood uses that engine for all their future 3rd person games for the next couple of years.
J @ Oct 20th 2008 12:03PM
Dead Space is blowing my mind right now. The other stuff EA has done for it is awesome too, like the on-line comic.
5th hot meal @ Oct 20th 2008 8:45AM
far cry 2 for sure! being in UK dead space too! time to thrash my 4870x2 :)
Markusdragon @ Oct 20th 2008 10:17AM
I misinterpreted that as a really, really flat screen resolution.
sinergy @ Oct 20th 2008 8:52AM
I really hope the PC controls on dead space aren't as bad as I'm hearing they are....
Haggard @ Oct 20th 2008 9:45AM
They are and according to EA it's intentional. Just plug a 360 controller in, works fine.
Rentaro @ Oct 20th 2008 4:15PM
It's not a question of bad controls. It's why the hell do I need to buy a 360 controller when I have a perfectly good mouse+keyboard.
Daxter1985 @ Oct 20th 2008 8:55AM
I'll be picking up Fable 2,Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and Far Cry 2
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 20th 2008 8:58AM
FarCry 2 for shizzle and I hope Spiderman turns out to be good as well so I can rent that for a weekend playthrough. As for Fable 2 I dont know if I can invest that much time in a game like that with Dead Space, Call of Duty: WaW Beta and Far Cry 2 on my gaming schedule...
:(

Duke @ Oct 20th 2008 10:29AM
Yeah, this is getting tough. I have a huge backlog of games now. Dead Space has been a great game (with a top notch engine). Now to have Fable 2 and Fallout coming. Its brutal!
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 20th 2008 10:36AM
Tell me about it I figure by the end of this buffet of gaming goodness I'll be even closer to you and your 28k GS. LOL! Just hit 20k last week with SW:TFU
:D
Deeznuts420 @ Oct 20th 2008 9:01AM
deadspace is coming today from gamefly, and i think fable 2 is coming later this week, so i can do those first and wait for the other games later.
il_duce620 @ Oct 20th 2008 9:09AM
Petz Rescue Wildlife Vet should have been game of the week, yo... :-P
ExMcCloud @ Oct 20th 2008 9:10AM
Fable 2 and Fallout BABY!!! Im getting FArCRY for free so thats awesome....Then LBP next week so all is well!
atrimus @ Oct 20th 2008 9:10AM
the only one of my reserves coming out this week (midnight tonight, actually) is Fable 2. Fallout 3 and Gears 2 are a week and weeks respectively. i'm definitely picking up Eternal Sonata for PS3, though i didn't reserve it, and i may opt to give Far Cry 2 a try, but lately i've been kinda bummed out on straightforward fps' (that is until Killzone 2). still, i guess it's a good week, if only for Fable 2, Fallout 3, and PS3's versions of Rock Band 2, Eternal Sonata and Bioshock.
CynicalStrike @ Oct 20th 2008 12:10PM
I think the whole point of Far Cry 2 is that it isn't straightforward, at least by my understanding...
samfish @ Oct 20th 2008 9:17AM
I'll be renting Wii Music and Spider-Man this week. Probably end up buying Wii Music, but I want to see the song selection and stuff, first.
Also if it's actually coming out, Ikki Tousen for the PS2. Kotaku said it is, but I find Joystiq's list to usually be more accurate.
AdmiralSnackbar @ Oct 20th 2008 9:19AM
Got Fable 2 this weekend. It's worth the wait. Seriously.
Will be nabbing Spider-Man WoS as I wait for Fallout 3 as well.
Steven M @ Oct 20th 2008 9:22AM
im getting far cry 2 for the pc this week, im gonna wait till around thanksgiving or christmas break so i will have time to play it
joevill @ Oct 20th 2008 9:29AM
A lot of great games this week... I'm supposed to be saving money not spending it! :-\
Kevin @ Oct 20th 2008 9:29AM
85 titles and not 1 that interests me. I suppose it's good for the wallet...
Kira @ Oct 20th 2008 9:53AM
All these stupid games... Man, I wish I lived in Japan, they actually get good games.
Duke @ Oct 20th 2008 10:30AM
Are you serious? So tell us great gaming masters, what games would you not consider stupid?
baby sea tuna @ Oct 20th 2008 10:50AM
Duh Duke, any game that isn't a dating sim or monster collector SUCKS!
Duke @ Oct 20th 2008 11:16AM
Good point. :(
Jakka @ Oct 20th 2008 11:25AM
Dude, it really must suck not enjoying ANYTHING!
Deeznuts420 @ Oct 20th 2008 11:30AM
/sarcasm?
theturtle363 @ Oct 20th 2008 2:58PM
no, he's probably just stupid
Kevin @ Oct 20th 2008 7:15PM
Wow, you all insult me/kira and give me no persuasion that any of the games are actually good.
kellydude025 @ Oct 20th 2008 8:25PM
Kevin, my dearest friend,
The reason NONE of us have replied to your comment trying to persuade you to buy a game is because we really shouldn't have to.
If you stayed up to date...scratch that...if you even GLANCED at the blog every once in a while, you would REALIZE just how awesome the games coming out this week are. Fable 2 is a supposedly a master piece, and although i don't know much about any of the other games coming out this week, but lets be honest, the last few weeks have been filled with glorious games.
You, sir, do not deserve the right to lay eyes on this blog.
Kevin @ Oct 20th 2008 8:30PM
So... all the games this week are awesome because only Fable 2 is awesome. I don't have or want a 360, because I've never seen anything that makes me want one.
Also: Ad Hominum is the best defence.
Trickob @ Oct 20th 2008 9:31AM
I must have Fable 2. I've been waiting for this since I first started reading about Peter M.'s vision for the game nearly 10 years ago...
Wyvernlink @ Oct 20th 2008 9:37AM
Castlevania for me
baby sea tuna @ Oct 20th 2008 9:42AM
Fable, Far Cry, and Spider Man...hmmm...I honestly don't know. I guess I'll see what gets the best reviews.
Arkhetype @ Oct 21st 2008 2:07PM
Fable 2 and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.
Then Next Week: Fallout 3
Game Copped Last Week: Dead Space
Christmas Games: Infinite Discovery & Mirror's Edge
Cubfan786 @ Oct 20th 2008 9:43AM
I;m pretty sure game developers hate students and do all they can to make them fail their exams.
They decided to release fallout, far cry, COD, Dead space, left 4 dead and all other goodies right before my exams start in the next 2 weeks.

R @ Oct 20th 2008 9:56AM
Sucks for you mate. I failed my only mid semester exam today, leaving me wide open for a full night and a full day of Fable 2.
Damn you ACC 211....why are you so hard...
Kira @ Oct 20th 2008 9:54AM
I can't believe I'm finally getting my hands on LittleBigPlanet! I've been waiting forever!
Wait, why isn't it on the list?
DiggyStyle @ Oct 20th 2008 10:10AM
Crazy, bored, religious people, with nothing better to do than search for fire where there isn't even smoke, delayed it.... Bummer huh?
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/littlebigplanet-hitting-europe-no-later-than-week-of-nov-3/
Markusdragon @ Oct 20th 2008 10:20AM
Actually, I'm pretty sure a group of concerned Muslim gamers asked nicely for a patch to remove an entirely accidental potential controversy, and Sony went into total panic mode as a result.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 20th 2008 10:36AM
And dont forget the potential Law suit...YES it would have happened all over a cute little guy named SACK BOY? How did that name make is past marketing....sigh...
R @ Oct 20th 2008 9:57AM
Delayed because of some Qu'ran music in it that caused a controversy, apparently. I think it hits next week.
Jaclo @ Oct 20th 2008 10:07AM
I ALMOST decided to get Fable II, but I have decided not to for now. Getting Far Cry 2 (I wish they would have named it something else) instead.
MrKniceGuy @ Oct 20th 2008 10:39AM
word. I'm stoked to play Far Cry 2. Getting Fable 2 also, but that one will have to wait.
ScottG13 @ Oct 20th 2008 10:08AM
Wow, I'm just about halfway through Saints Row 2, halfway through Fracture, not started Dead Space and getting Fable 2 tomorrow. Its crazy town.
SKI @ Oct 20th 2008 10:26AM
Can anyone tell me if My Japanese Coach is useful? I have most of the basics, I just need to learn words and better sentence structure.
Pedobear @ Oct 20th 2008 2:43PM
I played it for like half an hour. I was learning the kana, but I already knew that so I stopped. I think its an ok supplement but it is not going to teach someone to speak Japanese.
Dirty @ Oct 20th 2008 10:29AM
I cant decide if I want to go to the midnight launch. Its very tempting, but Im getting old and going with little sleep into work does not sound fun.
Blazur @ Oct 20th 2008 10:30AM
On Tuesday I have a date with some necromorphs.
