MTV's Patrick Klepek allowed readers to submit questions for him to ask Harmonix about Rock Band 2, and luckily for us, people were curious about the details of the Wii version. Klepek got real, concrete answers about DLC -- and less concrete answers about instrument compatibility.
First, the good news: like its competitor, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Rock Band 2 allows players to run songs directly from an SD card. No need to scour the fridge! This contradicts what we'd heard previously, but we don't mind because it's awesome.
The less good news is that Harmonix didn't have a straight answer about compatibility between Rock Band 2 and World Tour's bizarro touch-pad-equipped guitar. That doesn't mean it won't work, just that ... maybe they don't know yet. At least Guitar Hero III guitars will probably be available cheaply.

Yeah, if the instruments are compatible, I will forgive Harmonix enough to pick up the game.

i've finally had it. i'm selling a bunch of my wii games i don't play much anymore and i'm buying an xbox 360 just so i can play these music games.
i tried to give nintendo the benefit of the doubt, but it's getting ridiculous. the xbox 360 and ps3 have instrument compatibility across all the music games. meanwhile, i have two GHIII guitars, two rock band guitars and a drum set in my apartment. there is a solution for the DLC but it's still not enough to work for me. 200 free blocks? multiple 2GB memory cards? no thanks.
i can get an xbox 360 with a decent-sized hard drive, i can buy guitar hero: world tour's complete boxed set, and i can simply buy the game disc for rock band 2 and i'd be fine. i could even pay the $5 or whatever and borrow a friend's rock band 1 disc and load the entire setlist onto the internal hard drive.
again, i love the wii, but i really love these music games and they're completely exposing nintendo's design flaws, in terms of hard drive space and DLC. i tried my best and spent a lot of money on wii music games, but enough is enough.

You're selling the wii..... for rhythm games? that may even have instrument cross compatibility on wii?(gh3 controllers are even confirmed to be compatible with rb2 in this and other articles)
could it just be that you're just a 360 fanboy out trolling?

Sorry about that, your post seemed a bit odd to me. it had the kind of snap judgements usually reserved for fanboy posts.
you do need to understand that the games aren't out yet for wii and any number of things could improve before release. plus nintendo could add sdhc support for the wii in the future, giving up to 32gb of storage.
