Several months after Sony launched its campaign to exploit a widespread gaming neurosis discovered by Microsoft during the development of Xbox 360, the company is considering a change of heart, suggests a rumor plucked from the pages of OPM. That is, instead of treating afflicted players with relatively useless, congratulatory Trophy pop-ups, Sony may be "mulling over some sort of [actual] Trophy reward system" -- one which could offer valuable amends.
While OPM and CVG speculate these rewards would likely stop at exclusive beta access and kick-ass wallpapers, we're imagining something greater. Like, chicken rings. Sony could actually do some good by eliminating the typical, self-inflicted starvation that plagues Trophy hoarders. You see, when it comes to, "Do I spend this last 10-spot on dinner or Geon Emotions?" clinical studies have shown sufferers of DRHS (Digital Reward Hoarding Syndrome) choose the latter option 99 out of 100 times. But what if unlocking the "Geon King" Trophy also meant a Triple Whopper wit' cheese was waiting for you down the street at Burger King? Please Sony, if you won't help us defeat DRHS, at least help us treat it.

What's funny is that Microsoft's achievements _do_ support giving gamer pics and such as rewards. It's just that almost no games do it.
Example of a game that does: Outpost Kaloki X.

Yep, PSN points would be sweet enough. I actually thought Microsoft would do this when i first saw their point system. At least sony is being original enough not to make your average a dick waving competition.

I LOVE me some White Castle...
That big ass picture of Chicken Rings made me hungry, I think I'm gonna head out to White Castle, pick-up a couple of sliders, and a sack of chicken rings...

Isn't this going to step on Qore? Qore is supposed to offer exclusive demos and wallpapers, and there aren't even enough of those to make Qore worthwhile! I don't see how they are going to have enough content to support both Qore and trophy rewards.

Free PSN, Free Home, and now free giveaways when trophies unlocked!?
From the sound of all the cool free stuff it sounds to me like Microsoft is the one losing money and Playstation 3 is number one!
Damn that Liberal NPD data and its spin!

usually in business when a company has to give things away for free it means that they are in trouble and/or want to attempt to increase sales.
trust me if sony could charge $ 5 per month for online, they would, however there would be little reason to own a ps3 at that point aside from the few exclusive games and blu ray playback and few other features i can do on my computer. and sony would lose a lot of customers as their online experience lacks and is not worth $ 5 per month to use..
example- ( trying to play socom at night or on the weekends.. ) lol.. servers down..
nobody really cares about trophies as they are not in most games and we have to replay everything to receive the trophies, so by putting something for free inside of them, that is a way of sparking some interest.
ms doesnt have to give away free online, because xbox live is superior to PSN. there has been only 1 week i have ever had trouble playing an online game on live and that was during the 2007 holiday season and halo 3 and cod4 releases. those issues were resolved 1 week later, and we were all given a free game download.... (( see we get free stuff when they mess up)) not because they want to give us free stuff, when they are spending billions to create and market these products...
come on QORE is $ 3.00 why isnt that free... lol... sony charges for everything they can charge for.

Trophies are still stupid. As are Achievements. The game itself should give you a sense of achievement.

at least achievements were a part of the 360 release and are mandatory in all game releases and it is fair system in which we all can receive them now.
sony did have that extra year to get that in there too...

Why couldn't they have gone with the exclusive downloaded content. I'd love a golden sackboy for all my golden trophies. Maybe a overtly branded over the top SONY fanboy game thats totally too SONY for even SONY or collect a free subscription to Qore, huh? I've been interested ever since I heard Veronica Belmount said "vag-tastic!"

White Castle is a real restaurant? Thought it was only in the movie.

Yeah, I was going to add the comment that some 360 games give out gamer pics based on achievements. Cloning Clyde comes to mind. And if I'm not mistaken, some games have included unlocks within the game when achievements were awarded.
As far as White Castle... haven't encountered any in Northern California. I think there's some in Southern California though.

I'm not a console gamer but I know Team Fortress 2 does that. Call of Duty 4 also has some unlocks based on achievements.

The White Castle's in KC closed years ago and I have been denied my chicken rings ever since. Thanks for bringing back that painful loss Joystiq.

Yum, chicken flavored donuts.
Personally though, I'd rather have PSN points that'll let me buy PSN games.
