It was a photo finish, but this title was just barely passed by the number one choice. In fact, there's a distinct difference between the best games and your favorite games. And personally, I prefer Super Castlevania IV more than what you already know is number one. The game is simply amazing. It might be hard for someone who's never played the 16-bit masterpiece to understand the appeal through screenshots and movies alone. But once you get your hands on a controller and play through a few levels, it'll prove itself to be devilishly superb. Remember what I said about ActRaiser? Copy and paste. The pure euphoria experienced while playing this game is like seeing your favorite band come onto the stage for the first time, taking a deep inhale of fresh forest air on a camping trip, and biting into an amazing piece of cheesecake all at once. It just screams perfection and apparently releases endorphins into my brain. I could try to give specific reasons why the game is so awesome, but I'd probably just start blurting out random nonsense ... like mode 7, free whip control, spinning rooms, swinging ledges, incredible music ... uggh, my brain is overloaded. I need a fix. Excuse me while I dust off the SNES.
