After being stripped down of its heftier extras the Fable II Collector's Edition may have, unintentionally, misplaced one of its replacement bonuses. According to tipsters at Joystiq, some Fable II Collector's Editions sold at GameStop are missing the redeem code for the special in-game downloadable content offered exclusively with the package.
A GameStop source told Joystiq that a company wide email notes that cases bearing an orange "48 hours of LIVE"' sticker include the DLC code, but copies without the sticker do not.
Allegedly customers are being directed by GameStop to the Xbox Support phone line (1-800-4MYXBOX) if their Collector's Edition does not include the code -- which Joystiq confirmed with a phone call to Xbox Support as the current course of action for the situation. The anticipated role-playing game from Lionhead Studios releases for the Xbox 360 today.

Has this happened with any other retailer? Just curious cause I had my folks preorder it from Circuit City (it came with an itunes card) as a Christmas gift. If I did get a gimp version, would they still offer support at Christmas time? That is the only reason I wanted the LE anyways. I could always exchange it I guess.

Lol... LE edition FTW! I had cancelled my LE copy after all of the previous issues and didn't plan on picking up the game until I heard the X3F podcast yesterday. I am now buying the regular edition, hopefully the disc is inside the case!

This sounds like a bigger issue, but I bought a "new" copy ofy of Civilization Revolution at Gamestop and it was missing the free dlc code that came in all of the games sold from them. I know Gamestops have their own shrinkwrapping machines and they can wrap a game back up after opening it. I am sure that is what they did to my Civ Rev game. Could Gamestop employees have opened the games and stolen the codes only to wrap them up again thus not having the "48 Hours of Live" stickers?

No, that would be next to impossible since XBOX 360 games are sealed with taped security seals on the top and bottom, and then shrinkwrapped at the factory. Also I believe the shrink wrapping from the factory has some writing on it, I could be wrong on that, but it is highly unlikely employees would do this, because you can tell if the security labels on the plastic case have been tampered with.

I think you are right on this one because it is too large a scale. Gamestop does regularly open brand new games for various purposes (one being for a display case) and still sell the game as new. I would have called them on it had I realized that Civ Rev had been resealed, but honestly I don't usually look for the "Microsoft Seal of Approval". I will start to now though with all of the issues that they seem to be having.

... Did you try removing the hard drive, unplugging and replugging all of your cables, and rebooting your system?

The support page does have a reference to this issue:
Some copies of Fable II Limited Collector's Edition missing downloadable content cards
October 20, 2008
We have identified that some copies of the "Fable II" Limited Collector's Edition are missing the downloadable content (DLC) cards, which give access to in-game bonus content. This represents a small fraction of the total number of "Fable II" games shipped and sold, and is contained to the Limited Collector's Edition of the game in North America. We are currently investigating the scope of this situation and regardless the outcome of the investigation, we are implementing a plan to address it. We will have a means to deliver replacement codes by Oct 28th so please check back then. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you bought it return it for another version, to me this counts as does not work and so you want another new copy that does work.

I bought my copy of the LE at lunch. Read about this problem an hour before I bought it, but figured if it's a widespread issue, they'll fix it and everyone that missed out will eventually get the code. What was the DLC code anyhow? like what content was it? I didn't get my code so i'll guess i'll wait.

I ordered mine off Amazon.ca and it didn't have the card.
Calling that 1-800 number didn't help. After trying half a dozen times to get that automated voice to understand the word "games", I finally got through to a real person, but he seemed to be talking to me from inside a bunker or something because his voice kept cutting out. So I hung up. Rather than waste more of my time, I'll enjoy what I have now and wait til the 28th for the rest.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty pissed. I love the game, me and my friends are having a great time with it. But as far as LE, lionheads fucked up big time. They already took all the goodies from the LE (Not a big deal) but the one thing that we do get wich is the code, doesn't even work (for me and many others) But it works for everyone else I know. I payed the extra $10 to help out lions, but damn they need to step up. Still though, love the game. At least paying for gears LE won't be a disapointment.

I called MS and they told me that they are working on a solution and to keep checking the xbox.com for an update. So there is no point in calling at all because they do not take your information and they will just tell you to check the site and wait.
