I wonder if Knights of the Old Republic MMO will also come to the PS3 and 360 or if the game will be a PC only game.

I'll take a KOTOR SP game over a MMO any day.
If it turns out to be a 100% MMO consider my interest gone.

IF you were a Star Wars nerd like I am, you would no that there's stuff like the Lightwhip (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightwhip) and the Lightsaber Pikes (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber_pike) that will probably add variation to Lightsabers. Also, some Jedi were known to use blasters.

Potential Star Wars KOTOR sequel is awesome news, for sure.

But Boba Fett Hoodies might just be cooler!

How exactly would lightsaber nunchaku work? LOL, I mean, wouldn't you burn your hand off as soon as you picked up one end? That would suck. ;)

KotOR FTW. :) I'm hoping it'll be a mix of single player & MMO, personally. I have faith that BioWare/Lucasarts/EA won't screw it up, regardless. The lesson was well-learned with SWG. Man that game sucked (before and after the NGE, IMHO, anyway.)

I hope it doesn't suck. The KOTOR games are, gameplay wise, some of the worst big budget games I've ever played. You could beat both KOTOR games, on hard mode, by pressing the 1 and then 2 keys repeatedly throughout each battle. (Flurry + Heal). There was no reason whatsoever for Bioware/Obsidian to include the turn-based and auto-pause system they did, because the gameplay mechanics were so extremely shallow. Jade Empire wasn't much different.

Bioware hasn't made a good game in at least a decade, when it comes to actual game play. What they've made are very good Choose Your own Adventure stories. Strip these games of their AAA quality writing and you have some really mediocre games. (And in the case of Neverwinter Nights, they made a good Toolset.)

I hope there's "X-wing" quality space combat in this game. There's something screwy with how 99% of Star Wars films and games are no longer about actual Star Wars, but land and jedi wars. The first Star Wars film had 30 minutes of straight up space combat.

But, I guess most MMO players are not fans of space combat games like X-wing, so such a game would be a waste of Bioware resources. *weeps*

A bill of fun and adventure....

quit your bitch'n

MMO = payments its not gonna change.

GW is free yes bla bla but its only big cause its free. wow would have hit 25 million people easy if it was free but blizzard would have only made 10% the cash. you do the math.

It's also a very good game though. A lot of its popularity does come from the fact it's free, but that wouldn't mean anything if it were a bad game.

GW2 is going to be much bigger and even features a totally persistant world. Unfortutantely they're dropping a lot of the philosphies which made GW unique in an attempt to win over more casual MMO fans, but it's still going to be a completely free MMO, and I wish more companies would try something similar.

I much prefer the method of paying once or twice a year for an expansion, rather than paying monthly. At least that way you only need to continue paying if you want to get the new content, if you're happy with what you've got, you can just keep going with that.

Guild Wars didn't have a monthly bill. Neither does Perfect World - they makes their money on mounts and special items that people buy via a cash store. Personally, I like the GW method, and it's been proven to work very well for that game, so why not?
l
Regarding single-player vs. MMO.. I personally feel that if they don't address both aspects in this one, then they will simply make two separate games - KotOR MMO, and KotOR 3. Fans of KotOR I & II have been saying for years that they want a single player game, so considering that there'd obviously be a ton of money to be made by releasing both, I think it's pretty much in the bag that we'll see two games (this one being the MMO.) IF they don't combine them into one game somehow.. guess we'll find out shortly. :)

I certainly won't be touching it if it has a monthly payment. Come up with a different/better method, or simply take the GW approach and I'm in, but otherwise I hope this is simply a single player game.

I could easily pay the subscription, but I won't do it out of princible, it's just far too much to be paying every month for any one game, no matter how good it is.

I've never been a fan of MMO games and I am so busy I'd never be able to play online for any amount of time anyway.

Thats part of the reason MMO's are boring to me. The combat is lackadaisical. Give me a little bit of action with the RPG stuff going on in the backround.

What an original idea...that's never been tried:

Just copy and paste some code and put up some "Old Republic" paraphernalia, and then you have a brand new game!

Guys, it's here!

LucasArts and BioWare have finally officially announced their joint massively-multiplayer online game at an event in San Francisco today. Titled Star Wars: The Old Republic, the new game is the first MMO for BioWare and the second Star Wars MMO for LucasArts.

QQ more please.

"$15 a month is too much to pay XYZ company every month for maintaining and patching the servers I requires to play ABC game."

Where's the principle in that?

Because mantanince doesn't cost anywhere near as much as you're lead to believe. If you're happy enough to throw your money at these companies anyway, then go ahead.

I am under no false assumptions on how much maintenance costs, just a fan of paying for the things I want, and letting those companies that make products determine how much they want to charge for them. If it is not worth it to me, I won't pay for it. (Capitalism ftw)

However, I do not expect companies to make me games to play and not have to pay them for it.

Also, articles are already up. I was incredibly excited about this. Not so big on the art style.

Great! So they just alienated all the console fans that originally played KOTOR 1 & 2 on the Xbox. Way to go Bioware!

So, now, anyone interested in this game is going to have to shell out tons of money to upgrade their computers, video cards, and operating systems just to play this dog turd. Not to mention a monthly fee.

Count me out!

Is is just me or has Star Wars been circling the toilet ever since the prequel movies came out? Seriously, I used to be the biggest SW fan and now I could care less about it. Lucas and company have totally ruined it.

Reading the live blog, they mention that it's not a game meant for running on just the top 5% of PCs. So I'm assuming it will be kind of like WoW or free MMORPGs in the fact that it will be able to run on many computers. I don't think it will require tons of money.
