- Eurogamer (100/100): "Inclusive and often thought-provoking, this is a daring portrait of a game-world with all the failure cut out, and it's hard not to love a game that loves you so much in return. Fable II will charm you, thrill you, and leave you very, very happy."
- CVG (92/100): "It's still not the revolutionary piece of software Mr. M lauded it to be, but Fable II finally sees Lionhead's original concept realised, and all round it's clearly the developer's best game to date. Well done Peter, you finally did it."
- GameSpy (90/100): "Fable II presents you with difficult, meaningful decisions that shape the development of the world around you. You'll experience life from a young age and see your character grow up to become a powerful force in Albion. Whether or not you become a force for good or for evil is completely up to you. We thoroughly enjoyed Fable II, and heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good role-playing game"
- IGN (88/100): "The past four years were well spent by Lionhead. Fable II has a great combat system, some excellent atmosphere, a smart experience system, and lots to do. It's only when you start exploring the social aspects that things take a downturn. The expressions system is too goofy for the more serious tone of Fable II and almost every interaction feels artificial. The sandbox elements aren't nearly as enjoyable as the adventure aspects."
- Gamespot (85/100): "It's hard not to get sucked into Fable II. The world is so charming and your choices so profound, that it's easy to look past the game's shortcomings. The punishment for death is pointless and the story carries little weight, but the experience is still immensely rewarding. ... Your emotional attachment to your virtual dog will be real, making you reliant upon his companionship as you trek through these lands. In a game about choices, the wisest one you can make is to play the game."
Metareview -- Fable 2

We don't know if it was Microsoft's leash on designer Peter Molyneux or if Lionhead Studios finally focused its talent after a decade in existence, but Fable II apparently delivers a solid, enchanting action-RPG experience. X3F has a glowing non-numerical review covering many of the game's big picture concepts without getting into nitty-gritty (possibly spoiler) territory. Our great take away from reading other site's reviews is that Peter Molyneux was apparently spot on when he gave the game a "9 out of 10," saying it's the "best, most complete game" he's done.

"I bought a 360 for Gears of War, Halo 3 and Dead rising but never ended up playing any of those games because of my inability to use the controllers properly and the lower resolution."
Serously? All I can say is wow, just wow...

It's nothing against the games... it's like learning to drive a manual when you're used to using an automatic. Sure you could do it if you put the effort in, but you think 'why bother'.
So I could get good with a controller but I can't be bothered when m/kb is so much more natural for me...
Which is why I hope Fable 2 comes to PC :D

It wasn't as stupid as you portray it to be, 'arrrgh'... I already have a region B bluray player and I bought a region A ps3 figuring that I could at least play Blurays imported from the US, if my second attempt at getting 'into' consoles failed. The games were a minor bonus, and I preferred playing them on PS3 because it's far less noisy than my xbox 360 was. The difference in resolution between 360 and ps3 isn't noticeable by me... they are both seem equally blurry and low res to my eyes, compared to a PC game at 1920x1200 (PC&PS3 Assassin's creed for example... no comparison).
So yeah... my point wasn't that ps3 is better, my point was that games released on the console platform fail to hold my attention the way that PC games do. GTA IV is the only console game I've ever completed (I thought the controls were great) although I came close with uncharted until the zombies happened. So I would be very happy if Fable 2 came to PC.

I'll probably get this in December, or whenever I'm finished with Disaster/De Blob.

I really dug the review over at Ars Technica. They did an amazing job on their review.

I have come to trust Ars over any mag or site when it comes to reviews. They do a great job of breaking the whole game down, and letting you know whats good, and whats bad. Plus, they don't give it a score or a grade, they just say, "Yeah its a sick game, buy it"
or "Don't bother, not worth the money" etc...

After playing the crap out of this thing since midnight last night, I would compare it more to Zelda )with quests instead of dungeons) than a traditional RPG. And honestly, I can't imagine how anyone could possibly rate Twilight Princess higher than this. They're similar games, except Fable seems to do everything better.
And thank god, you can save anywhere (an absolute must nowadays in the world of xbox live where you can get an invite to play another game at any time). Interesting how most of the good games (Bioshock, Mass Effect, Fable 2) have figured this out while the mediocre stuff tries to keep you from popping in that other disk by tying you down to save points.

Your probably going to get hammered for saying anything bad about zelda..... but I totally agree.
Part of the reason zelda games do so well is because the invoke good memories and they are always reviewed by the biggest fanboy at the mag or site. I will say that I don't think the two games are as similar as you say, but there can definitely be a comparison.
I like this game better mostly because its intended for a mature audience, where zelda is for "everybody" which means its a bit on the cheesy Disney movie side.

I don't see what's so "mature" about burping and farting just to raise your character's popularity.

Anyone else pre order the LE at gamestop, and then have your code not include the legendary cutlass? Gamestop told me to call Xbox and they would fix it.

Its the best RPG I can remember playing. Seriously. Too bad Fallout 3 will probably knock it off next week. Either way, a great job by PM.

Fable 1 made me petrified of anything molyneux releases but when I get the chance I'll take the extreme risk and buy fable 2. I just won't have any time or money for it cause I'm getting farcry 2 soon and I'm picking up fallout 3 next week which will take up a good 300 hours or so probably.

Probably not until christmas. I had it preordered but the beta, while good and fun, convinced me that I experienced too much so I switched to Fallout 3. It's a casual game at heart and I can't play them for long without getting bored so I'm going with other priorities first.

What's so funny is how some reviews are almost the opposite of other reviews... one says combat is shallow another says it's great... one review says the story and quest are not good the other says they're awsome... then some say the sandbox is bad and arstech post like 4 pages about how awsome it is.

Enough with the LBP posts in the Fable thread man. Its pretty sad that you respond to post after post with comments on that game.

I got the game from my local gamestop and it had the cards. We went to our local walmarts and they didn't have it. They said their shipment was wonky and should get LBP and Fable 2 in the next 2 days. According to a few forums on microsofts website the games were manufactured in two different plants (sound familiar NES fans). Also Walmart was actually getting the recall on LBP confused and recalling Fable 2. Hence why there are a few asshats on ebay selling LBP. Oh and having a dog for a companion is great, except if he is glitchy as hell. Also in co-op you would expect to be able to bring your own character into the game but no. Sorry for the rambling but I honestly collect the stuff that comes in the collectors editions so I am a litte ticked.
