New trailer shows Alan Wake is still alive

GameTrailers has the latest trailer for Remedy and Microsoft Game Studios' long-awaited "psychological action triller" Alan Wake, although there's no indication whether it is the same one that was supposed to run before a special screening of Max Payne Finland. If it did, we can only hope that the audience derived some enjoyment from it before riding along in the Mark Wahlberg vehicle on a collision course with awfulness.
As you can see for yourself after the break, the trailer itself is lovely, spooky, and mysterious ... just the kind of thing that makes us want to see more of the actual game. Maybe even play it. There's a thought. Date please, Microsoft?

Finally, something new on Alan Wake! At this rate we'll be getting our hands on it by at least 2015.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Oct 21st 2008 2:23PM
but the world end in 2012. crap.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 21st 2008 3:40PM
No, they delayed the end of the world because of offensive lyrics.
The_Punisher (MR ESC NOOOOO) @ Oct 21st 2008 4:01PM
Just letting you know these three combined made me die on the floor laughing. Thx :)
Jakka @ Oct 21st 2008 4:05PM
Yeah, pessimists were really pissed off about the happy & optimistic "...and I feel fine" line.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 21st 2008 2:21PM
I'm hoping for a 2009 release. Glad to See Alan Wake still alive.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 21st 2008 2:57PM
Alan Wake Still Alive, kinda like Portal huh? I like that new title you just gave it. :D
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Oct 21st 2008 2:22PM
wow. that looks flippin amazing. they certainly have my attention on this one now as i had no clue what the hell this heralded 'Alan Wake' was before just now. color me super impressed.
atrimus @ Oct 21st 2008 2:24PM
looks like Heavy Rain's got some competition, in both the graphics and the psychological thrilling departments. though in all fairness these are probably high-end PC and not 360 graphics, though i could be wrong.
mirautaj @ Oct 21st 2008 2:48PM
Q: What platform was used?
A: PC. The shots were taken in 1080p resolution (using 4xMSAA) and scaled down to 720p for web release. We are only releasing a few shots, and we wanted these to be usable for print purposes as well, therefore the higher resolution. The game looks very good on Xbox360 too but only runs in 720p.

i also thought of Heavy Rain when i first viewed the trailer.
Killjebus @ Oct 21st 2008 3:45PM
Seems like HR and AW do have some similarities. The textures and the lighting look very good but the polygons look way to blocky (GTA blocky) and it takes away from the realism of the trailer. HR polygons are alot less blocky and have in my opinion much more realistic character models.
So graphically this game in my opinion does not hold a candle to the awesomeness of HR. Judging from the brief gameplay of this trailer against HR's gameplay...it is apparent to me that the PS3's polygon pushing power far outpaces the 360's. This is not meant to flame, it is just my observation.
I am intrigued by this game despite the low poly blocky characters.

You're...you're joking right? Alan Wake certainly looks pretty good, but it's more on the level of GTAIV. At this point it looks dated almost. Heavy Rain, on the other hand, looks goddamn incredible.
Sir_Drace @ Oct 21st 2008 2:29PM
I wonder if the press will pit Alan Wake and Heavy Rain against each other.
Sir_Drace @ Oct 21st 2008 2:30PM
I didn't see atrimus' comment :P
Hyams @ Oct 21st 2008 2:36PM
But they're completely different games in almost every possible way.
Alan Wake, as I understand it, is a freeroaming action horror game.
Heavy Rain, on the other hand, is a highly scripted adventure game with a very flexible story.
One might as well compare Heavy Rain with Gears of War, or Alan Wake with LittleBigPlanet. :S
Sir_Drace @ Oct 21st 2008 2:43PM
I don't think anyone really knows how either is going to play. I can see them being compared based on their very cinematic trailers.
Haggard @ Oct 21st 2008 2:52PM
Alan Wake is basically Alone in the Dark done right.
Markez @ Oct 21st 2008 2:32PM
There was a fish... in the percolator!
Andrew Corcoran @ Oct 21st 2008 2:40PM
Thanks, Pete.
Strnd @ Oct 21st 2008 2:37PM
Pretty, but the facial animations was really bad... Not a Heavy Rain killer there ;) But good to hear about Alan Wake again! But fix those damn animations...
Timett @ Oct 21st 2008 2:51PM
The diner girl looked pretty bad and sounded pretty annoying but other than that I thought the facial animations and everybody looked fine
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 21st 2008 2:36PM
Only for 360? Nooooooooo
Burritoclock @ Oct 21st 2008 2:44PM
I would think you would be used to that by now...
Jack @ Oct 21st 2008 3:18PM
As a PS3 owner, surprisingly I'm not used to it.
This games looks like it could be VERY good. In the same vain as Heavy Rain. Being psychological thrillers and all. I wish I could give you guys Heavy Rain for Alan Wake.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Oct 21st 2008 3:42PM
well with the way the 360 price is dropping, you may be able to pick up a 360 on the cheap pretty soon and just have both.
ex. i just bought a 360 last week on eBay with a 20GB Pro model, an extra wireless controller, everything that was originally in the box (including the box and all bags), and a 120GB hard drive all for the low, low price of $218 + $40 shipping.
i love my PS3 and all but some of these 360 exclusives just look too good to pass up. this looking to be one of them.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 21st 2008 3:44PM
I've been through two 360's already. I'm not buying another until a complete re-design (Valhalla maybe?) comes out.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 21st 2008 3:45PM
@Burritoclock
One of the first games that looks very interesting to me, exclusive to the 360
atrimus @ Oct 21st 2008 3:52PM
seems like the "Exclusives don't make sense anymore" argument only applies when PS3 is losing exclusives, but never when the 360 is gaining them. it's very biased that...oh, why am i even bothering in this pro-360/anti-Sony age of gaming?
word to the wise Jack: don't try to make sense of anything in gaming nowadays. just maximize your chances of getting quality content by going the PS360 route, like i did years ago.
Hyams @ Oct 21st 2008 4:12PM
It's being made by Microsoft. Of course it's not coming to the PS3. That'd be like God of War coming to the 360.
On the bright side, Alan Wake is also coming out on PC. (In fact, the above trailer is most likely of the PC build.) If your computer is good enough to run it, you'll be able to play it.
Knight Marquise @ Oct 21st 2008 2:38PM
Damn. Impressive.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 21st 2008 2:59PM
My thoughts exactly.
quickshade @ Oct 21st 2008 2:38PM
All I know is that it is open world, which means you can go anywhere before you start the next "chapter". Which means I will be spending a lot of time just driving around.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 21st 2008 2:48PM
For those who want to know what this game is about
From Wikipedia: Alan Wake is a bestselling horror writer. Early on in his career, his fiancée Alice was his muse. Just prior to meeting her, he had started to have strange dreams which he used as material for his first book. The book was a big success, a dream come true. But then Wake’s fiancée vanished without a trace. Wake was devastated. He couldn't write anymore, his dreams stopped and he began to suffer from insomnia. At the beginning of the game, Wake travels to a sleep clinic to seek treatment for his condition. The secluded clinic is located near the small town of Bright Falls, Washington, far away from the stressful urban lifestyle. Receiving treatment at the clinic, Wake is able to sleep again. At the clinic, he meets a mysterious woman who is the very image of his missing fiancée, uncannily so. At once, his dreams return, this time as terrible nightmares. Wake begins to write again: a new book based on those nightmares. But something is horribly, horribly wrong. Impossibly, the town of Bright Falls starts to change to something awful that bears a close resemblance to Wake’s new book. Wake ends up fighting for his life with a gun and a flashlight in his hands, trying to understand what’s happening.
Haggard @ Oct 21st 2008 2:54PM
Alan Wake = A. Wake = Awake
For those who haven't already had it pointed out to them.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Oct 21st 2008 3:46PM
lol thanks Haggard.
the end of the video helped alot though. "ALAN! Wake Up!"
NukeAssault @ Oct 21st 2008 2:56PM
I NEEED IT!
Jawmuncher @ Oct 21st 2008 3:01PM
Looks great
ComicShaman @ Oct 21st 2008 3:11PM
Makes me happy to see people making games like this one. I'm not likely to play it, since I don't own the X360, but I hope it's a good game. Looks like it has a lot of potential.
Mike @ Oct 21st 2008 3:39PM
Do you have a PC...?
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 21st 2008 3:17PM
Woah, Abre los ojos anyone?
Jack @ Oct 21st 2008 3:19PM
Did someone say that in the trailer? "open your eyes" in spanish?
Mike @ Oct 21st 2008 3:38PM
The dude in the red goose-down coat should try expressing his concern in some form that won't cause him to look like he's conducting an orchestra while battling an onslaught of Tourette syndrome. Alan Wake's running animation looks like it came right out Max Payne 2. It's a good animation, worth re-using.
Game looks pretty good.
Deprincer @ Oct 21st 2008 5:40PM
HOLY BALLS THIS IS THE GREATEST MEGATON IN YEARS
Dwight @ Oct 21st 2008 5:46PM
So totally want... probably more so than most of the other must-haves of the year
nickux @ Oct 21st 2008 6:56PM
it's weird how much things seem to be borrowing from David Lynch these days. Alan Wake takes great liberties from Twin Peaks as well as Blue Velvet. The town screams of Lumberton!
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Oct 22nd 2008 1:59AM
I love good storytelling in games... I hope it delivers!
