Finally, something new on Alan Wake! At this rate we'll be getting our hands on it by at least 2015.

No, they delayed the end of the world because of offensive lyrics.

looks like Heavy Rain's got some competition, in both the graphics and the psychological thrilling departments. though in all fairness these are probably high-end PC and not 360 graphics, though i could be wrong.

Q: What platform was used?
A: PC. The shots were taken in 1080p resolution (using 4xMSAA) and scaled down to 720p for web release. We are only releasing a few shots, and we wanted these to be usable for print purposes as well, therefore the higher resolution. The game looks very good on Xbox360 too but only runs in 720p.

Seems like HR and AW do have some similarities. The textures and the lighting look very good but the polygons look way to blocky (GTA blocky) and it takes away from the realism of the trailer. HR polygons are alot less blocky and have in my opinion much more realistic character models.

So graphically this game in my opinion does not hold a candle to the awesomeness of HR. Judging from the brief gameplay of this trailer against HR's gameplay...it is apparent to me that the PS3's polygon pushing power far outpaces the 360's. This is not meant to flame, it is just my observation.

I am intrigued by this game despite the low poly blocky characters.

You're...you're joking right? Alan Wake certainly looks pretty good, but it's more on the level of GTAIV. At this point it looks dated almost. Heavy Rain, on the other hand, looks goddamn incredible.

But they're completely different games in almost every possible way.

Alan Wake, as I understand it, is a freeroaming action horror game.

Heavy Rain, on the other hand, is a highly scripted adventure game with a very flexible story.

One might as well compare Heavy Rain with Gears of War, or Alan Wake with LittleBigPlanet. :S

I don't think anyone really knows how either is going to play. I can see them being compared based on their very cinematic trailers.

As a PS3 owner, surprisingly I'm not used to it.

This games looks like it could be VERY good. In the same vain as Heavy Rain. Being psychological thrillers and all. I wish I could give you guys Heavy Rain for Alan Wake.

well with the way the 360 price is dropping, you may be able to pick up a 360 on the cheap pretty soon and just have both.

ex. i just bought a 360 last week on eBay with a 20GB Pro model, an extra wireless controller, everything that was originally in the box (including the box and all bags), and a 120GB hard drive all for the low, low price of $218 + $40 shipping.

i love my PS3 and all but some of these 360 exclusives just look too good to pass up. this looking to be one of them.

One of the first games that looks very interesting to me, exclusive to the 360

seems like the "Exclusives don't make sense anymore" argument only applies when PS3 is losing exclusives, but never when the 360 is gaining them. it's very biased that...oh, why am i even bothering in this pro-360/anti-Sony age of gaming?

word to the wise Jack: don't try to make sense of anything in gaming nowadays. just maximize your chances of getting quality content by going the PS360 route, like i did years ago.

It's being made by Microsoft. Of course it's not coming to the PS3. That'd be like God of War coming to the 360.

On the bright side, Alan Wake is also coming out on PC. (In fact, the above trailer is most likely of the PC build.) If your computer is good enough to run it, you'll be able to play it.

All I know is that it is open world, which means you can go anywhere before you start the next "chapter". Which means I will be spending a lot of time just driving around.

For those who want to know what this game is about

From Wikipedia: Alan Wake is a bestselling horror writer. Early on in his career, his fiancée Alice was his muse. Just prior to meeting her, he had started to have strange dreams which he used as material for his first book. The book was a big success, a dream come true. But then Wake’s fiancée vanished without a trace. Wake was devastated. He couldn't write anymore, his dreams stopped and he began to suffer from insomnia. At the beginning of the game, Wake travels to a sleep clinic to seek treatment for his condition. The secluded clinic is located near the small town of Bright Falls, Washington, far away from the stressful urban lifestyle. Receiving treatment at the clinic, Wake is able to sleep again. At the clinic, he meets a mysterious woman who is the very image of his missing fiancée, uncannily so. At once, his dreams return, this time as terrible nightmares. Wake begins to write again: a new book based on those nightmares. But something is horribly, horribly wrong. Impossibly, the town of Bright Falls starts to change to something awful that bears a close resemblance to Wake’s new book. Wake ends up fighting for his life with a gun and a flashlight in his hands, trying to understand what’s happening.

Makes me happy to see people making games like this one. I'm not likely to play it, since I don't own the X360, but I hope it's a good game. Looks like it has a lot of potential.

The dude in the red goose-down coat should try expressing his concern in some form that won't cause him to look like he's conducting an orchestra while battling an onslaught of Tourette syndrome. Alan Wake's running animation looks like it came right out Max Payne 2. It's a good animation, worth re-using.

Game looks pretty good.

it's weird how much things seem to be borrowing from David Lynch these days. Alan Wake takes great liberties from Twin Peaks as well as Blue Velvet. The town screams of Lumberton!
