Edge takes closer look at GTA: Chinatown Wars
Despite their early doubts, the staff of Edge has, and we don't think we're exaggerating here, fallen head over Perseus shoes in love with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. You can find out exactly what the diminutive new object of their affections has to offer in this recently released, extensive preview. For our part, we're most intrigued by the minigames, which include using the stylus to hot wire a car, even fill molotov cocktail bottles at the gas station. Our protip to Rockstar: Avoid the compulsion to add a stylus-based sex minigame. Just ... trust us on this one, OK?

I hate to be *that guy*, but this is last month's Edge. Remember when you showed all those screens that were newly released? That was this article.
On topic, though, I'm interested to see how this turns out. I did enjoy the original GTA's, but they're nowhere nearly as deep as the recent batch (is since III).
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:24AM
What recent "batch" are you talking about? (GTA4 ?)

Yrs indeed, that's the fault of my non 3G iPhone and it's cursedly slow load times.

I was excited to hear about this game when it was announced, knowing that the DS could produce better graphics than most games take advantage of. But looking at the really crappy pre-1995 game play screens has made this the very fist GTA game that I will not buy. Seriously, it just looks REALLY bad. Pity.
Foetoid @ Oct 22nd 2008 8:58AM
So it looks really bad, and dispite the stellar reviews so far, you won't get it? Are you also the sort who shuns the idea of MegaMan 9 having NES graphics and who refuses to play any of the excellent Wii games because the games aren't HD? Grow up.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:45AM
Some people don't like to play games that look like they were made in 1996. Who are you to say that's wrong?
DEEZNUTZ @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:01AM
@ Foetoid:
"...any of the excellent Wii games..."
I LOL'd at this.
Foetoid @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:53AM
Whats the problem DEEZNUTS? I'm a picky hardcore gamer who refuses to buy mini-game compilations or crappy shovel-ware titles and i've found 12 Wii games to own. And i dont even own most of the A+ titles like Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros Brawl, Battalion Wars, Geometry Wars, Zack and Wiki or No More Heroes. If i can find that many games worth owning without owning the best games (Well, i still own Zelda, Metroid, Paper Mario, RE4 etc) on top of my 12 GC games and 20 downloaded games, anyone can. It's just a shame most hardcore gamers are too picky or too lazy to shovel through the tons of crap Wii games to find the excellent titles buried deep.

With a name like DEEZNUTZ, why worry about credibility?
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 22nd 2008 11:13AM
Nice copy and paste there foetoid. I saw literally the same exact comment searching through your history not long ago. Kinda funny seeing you call someone lazy when you're too lazy to come up with a new comment.

My copy of Darwinia says, "Be quiet, you."

It would have been nice if they would have used the same 2D perspective & gameplay as the old GTA's.
Snowblind @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:14AM
Try playing GTA Advance. If you haven't shot yourself in the head, then you might see why they didn't go with that.
I think this looks pretty cool, I really didn't understant the critisim it was getting when the first shots were shown.
Xoviet chiK - Gyiyg Strikes Back @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:22AM
I tried playing GTA Advance, and ended up walking away from one of the best GTA games released this decade upon completing it. Great game, shame they didn't go the GTA 2 style Top-Down look, a mode that still makes GTA III the only 3D game in the series I actually enjoyed.
j.howlett @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:42AM
i like what i see so far. i might have to steal my niece's pink DS to play it. i'll let her make firey death traps in LBP like i did during beta in exchange
JRM @ Oct 22nd 2008 9:56AM
I just hope it plays better than the original GTA...
(wow, talk about low expectations, LOL)
Solid Warri0r @ Oct 22nd 2008 10:18AM
Looks like GTA:RPG :s
Gonzo @ Oct 22nd 2008 11:15AM
What's wrong with a stylus based minigame, except for the stylus being too small.
Los @ Oct 22nd 2008 3:39PM
They add the sex minigame, the sales go through the roof. It'll be a hot pepsi/coke screwup that T2 will have to frown upon but Rockstar is laughing at.
