Spot on Gingeee and Evil WatCo - I went to my local Morrisons for GTA IV, got it for £32.99! It's a question of taking an hour or two out of our busy lives and looking for the best deals.

@Knight Marquise

"WTF? So this makes it ok to steal? That's as intellectually bankrupt as me stating: since I'm not going to purchase that Ferrari anyways, it's ok for me to steal it."

No, the point made was correct. Stealing a Ferrari is stealing a physical object that takes physical parts that cost money and labor that is paid for. Stealing a game is stealing digital information that takes no physical labor from MS or the developers. They are not directly losing money from it. And it is true that most pirates would not buy the game to begin with. This is a valid point, although I am not condoning piracy.

Wow, Chang... You are aware that games are made by real people, right? People with families, lives, and appendages... There is no Gene Wilder using Oompa-Loompa's in his Magical Chocolate Game Factory producing the intagible "digital information" that you speak of. My soul hurts to think that someone thinking on your level even tried to refute Knight Marquise's comment

@Black

Read the post a couple more times because you have missed the point. Yes games are made by real people. A COPY is not. A digital copy, which unlike a Ferrari takes not labor. Get it?

FACT: Piracy of any digital information is money lost from retail copies. The more people pirate, the less copies are sold, the less money the developers get in return.

Chang, Epic paid their developers a lot of money to create the game that is on the disc. They see absolutely no return on that money when someone steals a copy.

It is foolish to trick oneself into believing that no harm is being done. IT IS.

Unfortunately those of us that believe that games, movies, and music are actually worth something are a dying breed. The number of inconsiderate leeches seems to be increasing.

This puts all of our entertainment at risk, and those that pay for it are unfairly hurt. Why do you think all these crazy drm schemes exist?

I truly can't understand why pirates think they can argue FOR piracy... it eventually hurts EVERYONE. Thanks a lot, assholes.

They should at least have the common sense to be embarrassed about their crimes.

They need to go the route of (I think) earthbound and include code that verifies the disk embedded in various points of the game, that doesnt stop play but deliberately screws with the pirate. Where enemies would be more numerous and far stronger, wierd glitches happen and at the end, the game crashes and erases all your saves of it.

This would cause bugs for the person who buys the game and then gets a mega boss every 6 seconds. And you would have the super gamers who would want the challenge.
It is a good idea though...

Well pirates in general function using the "free rider "philosophy. They expect a large margin of people to acquire the merchandise legitimately so that they may benefit from it in the long run. However they know that what they are doing is wrong... despite the fact they may never outright say so; if everyone followed their philosophy then games or any type of entertainment medium would force to exist. Hmmm well that is just some consequentialist thought to absorb.

But that being said, I would have to agree with most other posters. I'm content to purchase games rather than pirate because for me game collecting is a hobby. I enjoy playing games as an entertainment outlet so I enjoy having something I can look back on saying " Heck, I have a great collection of games!"

I also feel that if I downloaded games all the time I wouldn't appreciate them as much. When you pay for something, you tend to value it more. I mean these are just my opinions so they don't hold much weight. As well it's a great way for me to get back at the wife for buying 3-4 of the same shirt ;)

I connected to live with Gears of War 2 and I'm fine. The thing about it is that you can PLAY it and get on LIVE, and you're OK.

But if you get on LIVE and play it (in single player), there is a high chance you'll be banned.

And yes, GoW 2 is awesome. The thing destroying the cities is, no joke, a giant worm that eats you up as you leave in a helicopter, then you destroy it's 3 hearts by cutting arteries.

nice one the pl4gue. I like that you have the balls to say you're palying it right now, i downloaded, gears 2, dead space, fable and fallout.
Now I'll be buying a collectors edition of Fable 2 cuz PM is just too good. I have Gears 1 collectors and I'll be buying gears 2 collectors too becasue it's good. Mine is try before you buy. i woun't be buying fallout 3 cuz I didn't enjoy it.

In adressing piracy.. look how much money HALO 3 made and to think that only about half of the people who play it acutually downloaded thier copy...I still pay for XBOX lIVE don't i? I Still buy controllers and Pay for downladable content. I just don't feel like making Bill Gates 50 billion double .....next thing i'll hear is some dumb fool telling me that downloading games ultimately led to the forclosure crisis and recession..

Just to play devil's advocate.... whether or not you think someone gets paid too much money does not justify your reasoning to pirate. Copying copyrighted material like that, is illegal. So ultimately it becomes a choice based on ethics and morality to boot. And yes to say that downloading video games contributed to the recession is a ridiculous statement I agree. (Waits for someone ot start talking about the recession xD )

Pirates are simply cheap c***s, parasites that the rest of us have to pay for.

Their infantile rationale that it's a digital copy therefore nothing is lost shows how underdeveloped their brains are, or at least their morals are.

It is exactly the same as the people who ride the train/bus with no ticket "it was going there anyway, nothing is lost" -- except the rest of us have to pay.

Maybe they are socialists and simply want the rest of us to pay for their lazy asses?

However, that's all beside the point ... there is now just as much Xbox piracy as there is PC.

Really? Thanks 360 Fanboy my new source of pirate games release info!!! Bravo!!

I would of never even knew these games were out if you hadn't of spread the word to me!! Thanks again I'm off to download now!!!

/joke

You know you are giving the pirates just what they want, credit! The more you advertise and whine about pirates the more things will be pirated.

This "news" has been going on for over 2 years and Gears of War 1 was leaked as well but suddenly it's headline worthy. I'm starting to think this is becoming news because of 2 groups.

1. PC gamers who are looking for the "SEE LOOK 360 HAS PIRATES!! GIVE ME MORE GAMES!"

2. PS3 folks who want to say "SEE DEVELOPERS SHOULDNT SUPPORT THE 360 BECAUSE THEY PIRATE"

And reading these comments I can already see both those camps are here.

I don't condone stealing anything but I am so sick of people considering what has been going on FOR YEARS suddenly news.

Let me answer to each group.

PC gamers: Please don't try and compare the epidemic of PC piracy to the low numbers that are pirated on the 360. To the drama queens trying to make it sound like everyone is downloading Gears 2 need to chill. Understand that this isn't going to change anyones mind about supporting the PC or not supporting the 360. You are wasting your time if that is the result you seek.

PS3 folks: The 360 rolls the PS3 software attach rate up into a joint and smokes it! The Wii as well. Developers know that if they make a game on the 360 it sells. This is not going to change Epic's mind to release Gears on the PS3 and it's not going take any developer support away from the 360. The PS3 will be hacked just like every Sony product.

Anyway, sorry to rant just want to let those people know that are trying to slag the 360 or try and use this as an argument of why they should get more software/support are wasting their time.

I hate that people pirate games too. I buy my games. Thanks to them, I pay more than I should have to.

Admittedly, there are times when I've regretted spending the money. Most games nowadays just aren't worth the cost. Some have great story lines, but the controls or camera sucks. Some are the other way around. Some would play better co-op, yet no co-op mode is to be found. Dev's need to accept that eye-searing graphics don't make or break a game. Content, controls and camera views do.

What I don't understand is that with these pirated new games, Microsoft should be terminating service for those who play them. Anyone who connects with Live has their "games played", date played, console ID and Live ID updated on Microsoft's servers. This makes it EASY for Microsoft to know exactly who, what and when. Then they just block the console from playing online. Afterall, all of us agreed to the EULA. Shouldn't come as a shock when a pirate gets blocked from Live.

For what can only be greed, Microsoft hardly ever terminates accounts and blocks access of pirates. If they started doing that, they'd make a huge impact on 360 game pirates. Not to mention maybe help lower the cost for non-pirates.

wow this seems like a trap. I sense the Microsoft bannhammer right around the corner.

i remember the last time this happend like not even a week later a buttload of 360's got banned.

Infact it did happen last year...right before thanksgiving!

Oh crap it's comming i see it now.

Nov17 NXE Drops
Nov24 Banhammer comes down.
Day after thanksgiving everybody goes out and buys out the 360's again.

Microsoft isn't stupid it uses the hackers to make thier sells go up.
