EA: Dead Space, Army of Two, Bad Company sequels in the works

Variety writes that during an interview with EA Games president Frank Gibeau and EA Redwood Shores general manager Glenn Schofield, the duo spoke openly of plans for sequels to both Dead Space and Army of Two. According to the report, EA is also planning a direct follow-up to Battlefield: Bad Company.
Given the (so far) generally sterling reviews of Dead Space, combined with internal enthusiasm about the IP, a sequel to the sci-fi shock-fest isn't exactly a surprise. Neither is Bad Company, which has both reviewed and sold rather well. Army of Two is the head-scratcher, though. The game released to decent reviews, but was by no means a runaway hit. Still, anyone who's played it can see the potential for fleshing out some of its co-op concepts into a (hopefully better) sequel. Army of Two ... 2?

For all the crap Army of Two got, it really wasn't a bad game. Besides, nothing quite like mowing folks down with a gold-plated AK-47 with a riot shield, shotgun, and C-Mag strapped to it. Looking forward to the next one.
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:15PM
I haven't played Dead Space (not avalible here for some reason) but Army of two and Battlefield Bad Company are really good.
For Bad company One suggestion:More jokes and more parodies.
5th hot meal @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:17PM
I thought Army of Two was the most offensive, ignorant, narrow minded bullshit I have ever played.
was really looking forward to it. but it turned out to be gung-ho wank.
Replica23 @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:04PM
Army of Two has a lot of great ideas, the studio just couldn't tighten up the product. Work ethic is easy to acquire, or force, but creative vision is not. I think EA would be wise to follow up on AoT.
Mez Jr @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:48PM
Army of Two was a fantastically enjoyable game. I'm glad they're following it up, reminds me of a check your brain at the door action flick ala Leathal Weapon.
@ 5th hot meal
What was so offensive about the game, I really don't get it. Is it simply the PMC angle they took?
offday @ Oct 23rd 2008 6:07PM
Yeah. But they better come up with a subtitle for it. Army of Two 2 just doesn't sound right. Just saying it sounds like a war between ballerinas.
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 23rd 2008 6:07PM
Funny thing is I was expecting Army Of Two to suck major balls but I actually enjoyed the game allot. They need to improve on a wide variety of things that kept the first one from being one of the top games of the year.
I didn't like the melee combat. It felt extremely broken and almost borderline of not even functional. It was not precise at all and uber clunky.
I also didn't like the times when the game forced you to go back to back. There where times where it worked like a charm but other times where it was completely not necessary. The story was also very average and the game could be beat in one sitting.
The co-op achievements were also broken (for me) and even though I played through the game on co-op I unlocked no achievements (got it on 360). I had to play it through it solo to get achievements but my co-op buddy got some when we played co-op.
Putting all of that aside the game was still bad ass. I don't think they need to number it and call it "Army Of Two: 2". Rather, they can call it something like "Army Of Two: Cambodia".
Dead Space is also incredible. I haven't beat it yet (hardly played it) but from the few hours I got into it I loved it. Just so many games out now - ya know?
Bad Company is also a very good game. In all honesty I have put many hours into the multiplayer but I have hardly touched the single player campaign mode.
It's a double edged sword having all of these good and new games at once. It's great to have the variety and selection but it feels at times that I am not getting the proper value from each game. guess it will come in handy when spring rolls around and we have a long draught.
Vcize @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:08PM
I had a blast with Army of Two. Definitely interested in a sequel.
Duke @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:06PM
They would find it hard to make Dead Space 2 a game I wouldn't grab day one. It's just a winner IP all around.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:24PM
Yes, everything is done to perfection in that game. I purposefully waited till my wife and kids went to bed so I can play it in my pitch black media room with the surround sound cranked up.
PURE WINNNNNN!!!
Popfrogs @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:05PM
Everything about it rocks except for the occasional 2-bit shadow mask. I walked into one room and saw a shadow of Super Mario on the wall, coming from my character. It was hilarious.
I've only spotted this in 2 or 3 isolated areas so it's not a big deal. It's just puzzling why it's there at all.
Otherwise I rate it a 9. I'm halfway through playing it and I already want a sequel.
Eric @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:06PM
Dead space is quite good what does everyone think?
ColossalHat @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:16PM
Awesome game, but I don't like the huge plot hole that came up thanks to the ending. So if they do make a sequel they'll have to pull an Evil Dead 2 sort of thing or go on to another incident with another host of characters.
Impossible mode is ridiculously hard, especially when using only the plasma cutter.
philmcphail (Welcome Back Mr. ESC!) @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:31PM
Ehh, Dead Space is good, but not as good as I thought it would be. I mean I was hyped since I first heard about it and it was a bit of a let down for me.
Ugh, I really expected to be on the same level of RE4, but it wasn't. I mean for example, the game wasn't rewarding enough, compared to RE4 there were shitloads of rewards, gold, etc you got when you took down a boss/or any enemy. That kinda thing wanted to progress more into the game. I know there's replay value but, all you don't get much after you beat the game that makes you want to replay. The game is pretty short too btw (only 12 chapters). The only reason I think people would want to go back to play is to continue and get the remaining achievements/trophies, however note that you get 90% of them by the time you finish the game, leaving the really hard ones left(finish game on impossible, one gun through the game, etc.).
The game isn't glitchy but towards the end, the levels begin to lag alot.
Also, the story isn't that good, I mean it was okay, but the damn religious subplot ruined it. Kinda like the cult thing ruined the story of Condemned 2. *Spoiler ALERT* Like the cause of all necromorphs isn't alien but man-made (Unitology). You'll get it after you finish the 12th chapter.
That being said, I still enjoyed the game, and I am still playing it right now. But unlike RE4 which i've replayed at least 30 something times, I might put DEAD SPACE away after my second round is over.
LeMuRfArT @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:10PM
yay for more dead space! that game was great
Jakka @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:10PM
I couldn't give a flying shit about the two of them(BC and AoT) and I'd rather have a KOTOR Sequel.
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:17PM
Oh no u didunt.
Just Mr.ESC SVU Headshot Jakka.
Army of two is fun as long as you play with familiy or firends and Bad company is freakin awesome.
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:18PM
*Friends.
Yeah everyone wants a new Kotor,Sky roads and a new Shemune and guess what? Is not going to happen.
Vidikron @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:18PM
Not sure how KotOR got into this, but OK.
Jakka @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:21PM
@ Vidi
It's owned by EA too...
theturtle363 @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:25PM
the KOTOR one is still possible, they do after all still have the license, and though ive said it many times already, the ambigious "next gen game" listing
Vidikron @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:26PM
Oh yeah... makes sense then. Carry on.
dark_inchworm @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:52PM
@ Jakka: I'm pretty sure LucasArts owns KOTOR and that Bioware (developer of the first title) was and is only responsible for doing LucasArts's dirty work, plain and simple. EA is only involved by virtue of purchasing Bioware.
benjor0x0r @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:15PM
They are gonna go backwards, it'll be Army of One this time!
Dead Space sequel sounds nice. Though maybe this time they'll make some of the other characters do some damn work to save everyone's a**es...
Mr.Ironic @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:44PM
I've not played it yet, really want to but need a better computer.
I suppose they can tell the same story from another character?
But I think they should make it unique, something else, not more of the same (e.g. moon base or something). I've seen too many of the videos now.
Dirty @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:15PM
Looking forward to all of them.
I think bad company could use the most polish, but it was a lot fun.
theturtle363 @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:23PM
Good to hear, not so much about Army of Two, but really excited about Bad Company, hopefully army of two will bring big improvements
rafael @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:29PM
Can I go back to playing a game with no destructable environments? nopes
Chris @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:25PM
i'm really looking forward to what they might do with new fist pound animations in an army of two sequel.
Sean Newton @ Oct 23rd 2008 8:20PM
I'll confess that, now that AoT has shown us the way of fist pounding, it has become a staple any time we "blowed things up real good". I expect Resistance 2 to provide many, many fist-pound moments.
dbellinger @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:29PM
Army of Two-Two or Army of Tutu? May want to avoid that mash up!
Aero @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:42PM
I would buy Army of Tutu
Misfit Toy @ Oct 24th 2008 1:18AM
Make it bold. Army of Two: THE SEQUAL.
Of course, you can only do that for your first sequal.
Although, I suppose you could follow up with...
Army of TWO: THE SEQUAL'S SEQUAL.
dbellinger @ Oct 25th 2008 4:12PM
At that point you could then go:
Army of Two Sequals or Amy of Sequals.
dbellinger @ Oct 25th 2008 4:12PM

Courtney @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:32PM
Army of Menage a trois?
Mr.Ironic @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:41PM
I'm in.
Renegage360 @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:46PM
No kotor 3 it will be an MMO, caled THE OLD REPUBLIC.
They should have finished the trilogy first, then made the MMO after. That would have generated much more hype for an MMO. Its been over 4 years since Kotor2 Which was on the original Xbox and PC. They blew the best franchise in gaming in my opinion and could care less for another MMO with a subscription fee.
Misfit Toy @ Oct 24th 2008 1:16AM
I'm not a fan of subscription fees myself. Although I like what Turbine is doing with Lord of the Rings Online. They offer a lifetime membership. You can either pay your $15 a month or you can pay a one time fee of $199. After that nothing, except for buying the retain expansion packs. I'd probably be into more MMOs if this were the case. Hopefully EA will follow this model.
S.C. McG @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:48PM
Army of Four, maybe?
wiredknight @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:28PM
Yea Army of Two was kinda disappointing. It had a lot of potential, and they cut out a lot of co-op dynamics, like moving large objects and driving forklifts. If they make the levels a little less linear, and give the players more options for cooperation rather than just forcing it through arbitrary level design, I think they could have a real winner.
Xoviet chiK @ Oct 23rd 2008 5:41PM
I love Dead Space, and welcome a sequel of sorts. I'm really looking forward to Mirror's Edge too, just the idea behind it makes me want to see more (Breakdown was wicked!). I just hope they can keep a nice balance between new IPs and sequels, they've done fantastic so far this year but I don't want them to back out of their commitment to releasing original titles.
l0rdtemplar @ Oct 23rd 2008 6:59PM
From what I remember, Army of Two sold extremely well.
Mark @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:01PM
This just in EA makes sequels to successful games.
Misfit Toy @ Oct 24th 2008 1:11AM
What makes these special is that they are original IPs. Well, Bad Company was sort of a branch, but overall not a bad step for EA. Now Activision...they are stamping numbers on all their games these days.
Dravean @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:22PM
Want Dead Space 2 now!
Jdrm03 @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:40PM
Heck yah, I would love a new battlefield bad company. Have about 10 days worth of play time online now. I even think it is better then CoD's mp, plus I just bought Far Cry 2 and the multiplayer on that is not great.
Hopefully they can make some changes like not taking so many rounds to put somebody down in the game and add prone and more weapons and customizable weapons! the game would be sick!
DWells55 @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:28PM
So..... Deader Space, Army of Three, and Badder Company?
Misfit Toy @ Oct 24th 2008 1:09AM
I suppose there could be worser titles.
Misfit Toy @ Oct 24th 2008 1:08AM
I own all three of the current version of these games. So EA must be doing something right.
I have to add. The past couple games (Bad Company and Dead Space) have the best sound of any other games I own. I don't know what they're doing in their audio department over there, but it is good.
