At least it looks like they are trying to compete with Rock Band by making them the same price. Definitely picking up the free ones whether i get the game or not.

Why would you get the free ones even if you don't have the game?

So now they have 3-track packs for a full-band title that are cheaper than 3-track packs for a guitar-only title.

Smooth.

"The verdict is still out on how consistent Guitar Hero World Tour's release schedule will be"

Exactly! I am pretty skeptical they will do 3 songs a week or more, given their past history, and the current lack of any DLC commitment statements from them.

Even then, I'm not sure I want to invest in GHWT when I've bought so much Rock Band DLC.

True, GH3 DLC release frequency left something to be desired.. but look at GH:WT this way, with the create a song feature there will be new and free DLC 24/7 once people start getting into it. I love the idea of starting up the game and there being something new to try.

@DeadPlasmaCell

I'm not so certain that the user-created songs will be an acceptable replacement to constant DLC for many players. Just take a look at how many people HATE the indie tracks on RB as DLC. If people can't open up to artists they haven't heard of, why would they do it for other users whose creations might be terrible, and certainly won't have the same audio fidelity.

Sure, it's going to be a cool feature, but it won't ever replace the ability for friends to visit and be able to play the masters of 5-10 of their favorite songs. If Activision can get both regular DLC and a large set of GHTunes songs, then they could win the song battle.

I am not saying I wouldn't enjoy these songs immensely in Rock Band, but they just haven't convinced me to spend another $60 and start a new competing library of downloads...

They've got a LONG way to go to match the 400+ songs that are on Rock Band with weekly deliveries. 3 songs at launch doesn't exactly bode well. (Plus two free/fake songs)

Oh look, a new Guitar Hero post. This is the perfect opportunity for all those dudes that wish they could marry the Harmonix devs to come out and tell us for the 1,034th how much better they think Rock Band is than Guitar Hero.

Maybe if we're lucky, they'll throw in some chatter about how Activision ruined the franchise by whoring it out, since it's been almost 24 hours since we heard that last.

Oh look, a new opportunity for vcize to jump in and blindly defend this compromised, ugly, shadow of a formerly brilliant franchise!

We are all nothing, if not consitant, here at the 'stiq.

You know Vcize, despite the fact you are a Gator, I'm going to have to give you some credit for being a stalwart defender against Harmonix fans. They're getting about as bad as Mac lovers at this point. Honestly, I like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and they're not that different so this irrational hate for Guitar Hero is unjustified. I would also like to throw out there, I'm sick of the 400-500 Rock Band songs list stat, because at least 350 of those songs are bad, or boring. I stopped buying Rock Band DLC because the game wasn't fun anymore unless I was buying new stuff. If Guitar Hero started rolling out seriously packs (Jimi Hendrix, bands most people have heard off...) then they could catch up pretty quick.

It's also really hilarious to see all the dissing about Guitar Hero now, being a sell out since Activision took the reigns. Never mind that Harmonix sold out (possibly even worse), by joining MTV. MTV PEOPLE! Viacom and MTV are the bastions of crap, there is a reason why "MTV Generation" is a negative phrase used to describe a complete generation of dipshits.

I love Harmonix's work too, Amplitude and Frequency were great games. The original Guitar Hero games were good. Rock Band 2 should have been a DLC patch for Rock Band One though honestly (and the track list isn't that great at all), and Guitar Hero World Tour (good or not) actually DID step up it's game, and add something new to the package at the same time (the song creation mode).

And I also agree with previous statements, The note charts between GH:3, GH:Aerosmith, and Rock Band, are not THAT different. All the games have songs that are fun to play, Songs that suck, and both companies could be viewed as sellouts to some extent, so get over it already.

Harmonix/MTV games is selling full album of Chilli Peppers for TWENTY BUCKS. Yes, I'm aware that it's still cheaper than buying each song individually, but half of the songs on that album suck anyhow, not to mention you get no option to export an mp3 to listen to the stuff elsewhere. Guitar Hero/Activision is no different in this respect either, paying more for Metallica songs in the game, than you would on the album itself.

It's all a bit much, from both companies, if you really want to get down to it. But, since I like rhythm games, especially ones with a fake plastic guitar, I'll most likely end up getting them both, and then showing BOTH companies that I feel the DLC is twice as expensive as it should be, BY NOT BUYING ANY OF IT. And Rock Band 2, only reason I'll be picking that one up, is so I can finally sell my copy of RB1, get the song sort features that should have been patched into the original, and I get it on the cheap from Gamefly.

"and blindly defend"

Care to explain to me how I'm doing it "blindly" when I own every game from both franchises?

Tooprime has a perfect analogy, it's like freaking Mac fanboys whenever an article about Windows pops up. FFS, we get it. You love Harmonix, and hate Neversoft. 95% of people agree with you anyway, so there's no need to post it every freaking time other than so you can all virtually pat each other on the back about your similar opinions on the subject.

You mean like Megadeth, Nirvana, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Rush, Oasis, Muse, Blur, CCR, The Who, The Smashing Pumpkins, Paramore, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fall Out Boy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Judas Priest, Boston, The Cars, System of a Down, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Weezer...

Am I getting my point across?

"Oasis"

I thought they were a shitty and terrible band, when it was announced their CD was coming out on GH...

Or did they suddenly became better now there was an opportunity to use then in a list war?

PS: The mention of Fallout Boy renders the entire list invalid anyway.

Nope. These songs most likely feature new charting features not in GH3, such as open strum bass notes, and hammer-on sustains.

Meh. They have a lot of catch up to do. Rock band has not only the songs from Rock Band 1 but tons of DLC songs, song packs, and full albums already available. And why the hell did it take this long to reduce the price?

Needless to say, I'm sticking with Rock Band.

Article fails for not making the obvious "Now you can have Jessie's Girl!" comment. ;)

Will download the free tracks, as I plan on renting this game in the next week or so. This is definately a demo first situation after what I experienced while playing store demos.

So far the only confirmed cross compatible content is Death Magnetic. Otherwise nothing.

Though if it's already on the Marketplace, we'd have heard by now if it were compatible.
