THQ gets 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand
We so totally didn't see this coming. THQ has snapped up the publishing rights to 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. You know, the video game adaptation of the hip hop icon's legendary quest to regain stolen treasure in the Middle East alongside the G-Unit. Hey, say what you will – THQ's VP of global brand management, Brad Carraway, calls it, "the ultimate package for gamers and hip hop fans alike," not people who like relevant and/or good plots.
Mr. Cent himself seems particularly pleased that his game will finally see release after being dropped by Activision Blizzard. Because now he can fulfill your fantasy ... you know the one. Where you, as The Half-Dollar Man says, "maybe even join me or one of the G-Unit online." Early 2009 can't come soon enough.

THQ: Quality Games
/sarcasm
j.howlett @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:31PM
The Highest Quality ?
Einhanderkiller @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:32PM
Hey, THQ put out some good games.
Company of Heroes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, de Blob, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, Supreme Comamander, and Saints Row 2, to name a few.
Levi @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:06PM
More news on the stupidest game in teh world!~!!~
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:07PM
Well at least the graphics don't look horrible.
I hear the plot is fascinating though!
Nightvortez @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:56PM
The plot is actually the perfection of video game stories, I don't exactly care for the game itself but if it sells well I'd like to see more games with a plot like that.
YonGibbeynater @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:09PM
And again, a sequel to really bad gets a publisher, yet a bad movie based game doesn't.
I kid, I kid, I wanna play Ghostbusters. It can't be as bad as this game.
Malascythe @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:13PM
Nice now I can add this to my collection of Get Rich or Die Tryin-games.
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:23PM
"the ultimate package for gamers and hip hop fans alike"
I'm both and this doesn't appeal to me at all yet. If they go the serious route with this game I won't even give it a second look. If they make it over the top and funny, I'll check out some videos of it and maybe pick it up... you never no.
AoE @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:24PM
Wow yeah... as a long time gamer and hip-hop fan... I; yeah I can't say I agree with Mr. Carraway. At all.
Now if someone wants to develop Immortal Technique: Blood in the Streets, THAT game I would play.
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:30PM
THIS.
AoE @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:02PM
Nope, I am certain I meant THAT, but thanks for playing!
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:30PM
Oh yeah Immortal Technique game would be the shit ... But, revolutionaries don't compromise so that won't happen ...

Or J Dilla-Donutz in the Sand
aristokrat @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:50PM
How about an Army of the Pharaohs game? Name's already taken care of, all they need is some pop-rap-slaying action and it'd be awesome. Hurricane Joe could be the first to get what's coming.
"I'm Jesus in the flesh so this is motherfucking Christian rap!"
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 24th 2008 12:07AM
Or we could have a Louis Logic game ...
Remember the sin-a-matic album? Every song is a level
Haggard @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:27PM
As I keep saying, I really want this. I don't see what's so eminently wrong with it.. do you all refuse to acknowledge 50 cent games on principle?
kaneda26 @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:14PM
If they replaced 50 cent with Justin Timberlake, would you still want to play it?
Popfrogs @ Oct 24th 2008 9:46AM
@Kaneda: I'd be looking forward to it if it starred Mr. T and he made all his "pity the fool" wisecracks as he fought the bad guys.
Then at the end of every level he turns to the camera and says, "good job foo', stay in school!" and lightning strikes his ring.
Haggard @ Oct 24th 2008 2:59PM
I'd prefer to play as a misogynistic, egotistical homophobe than Justin Timberlake, that much is true.
Solid Warri0r @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:30PM
It doesn't look too bad, i mean come on.. people just hate because they don't like rap or 50 cent it's dumb.
it looks decent enough to buy when it drops in price.
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:32PM
I don't like 50 Cent (I'm a big fan of rap and hip hop but I just plain don't think he's any good), but that's not why I have low expectations. See 50 Cent: Bulletproof.
Haggard @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:40PM
Except this one's being developed by a completely different developer, who have won an 'independent dev of the year' award and are currently also working on the 360 port of World in Conflict.
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:45PM
Hmph, I try using that kind of logic on CoD5 naysayers and it bounces right off of their skulls. With that said, I agree and will give this game the BOTD.
Haggard @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:02PM
But.. CoD5 is by Treyarch, right?
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:24PM
Yeah, but previous Treyarch CoD games were shit out quickly on Activision's order - they actually have time and a decent budget to work on this game.
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:34PM
Earlier 50 cent was good and his career peaked after the first album Dr.Dre produced. Early 50 cent is some solid stuff before he became all homo thug.
theturtle363 @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:55PM
drops in price to 50 cents! HI YO!!
KarlW @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:19PM
People don't like it because it's ridiculous. A hip-hop artist using an RPG? Get real.
Nearly everything they rap about is fake - you have a mortgage, a Bentley, you're paying taxes, you're not dealing drugs, hustling people, shooting people, or pimping. You're answerable to old guys in suits at the label. You're not a rebel. The music industry is pretty dull in truth. Helping these idiots visualise their fantasies is not something I'm going to pay for. It's not fun.
Besides, is any of that stuff cool? I don't know about you, but if I were a drug dealer or a pimp, I'd consider my life wasted. God, I can't believe I just imagined my life as a pimp.
Solid Warri0r @ Oct 24th 2008 12:24AM
When are games realistic.. thats why it's a video game.
ice~ @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:40PM
will this feature songs from G-Units new album??????!!!!!!
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 24th 2008 10:21AM
Most likely or the "mix tape".
ice~ @ Oct 25th 2008 4:30PM
lol then i am sooo renting this
James @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:51PM
Whats next? P-Diddy's Clothing Tycoon. 30 Cent must be paying THQ a hefty amount.
Nightvortez @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:01PM
The original game, which was horrible, sold over a million dollars, if anything THQ is paying 50 a hefty amount, which he later spends on hookers and blow.
SoulBlade @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:52PM
I'd rather play as one of the guys shooting at 50 Cent.
j.howlett @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:55PM
i'm not really looking forward to the game but i don't wish it bad either. i'm still a fan of 50 for his early work and some new stuff, i'll wait to judge this game for myself
Zack Turner @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:10PM
Now, Hip-hop fans can be gamers and gamers can be hip-hop fans.
But the question is in this Niche of a audience of the overlapping segment because the only gamers who are going to be getting this are hiphop fans... and then you even got to intersect it with hiphop fans who are 50 cent fans. Now let me remember how many copies of 50 cent I saw in game stop on the used wall and back room... oh yeah like 200. and if someone bought it, it'd be returned the next day. Yeah. QUALITY GAMES.

I'd normally vote you down (or not vote at all, certainly not comment). Today, in light of this news, will be seen as the day humanity slipped in to insanity, so up you go.
Anthony @ Oct 24th 2008 12:03AM
Its a joke...I don't talk or type like that. Lets settle our broncos. I'm on your side. I don't suppose you've been diagnosed with cannotlaughaticusatanythingitis? I don't know though, I'm not a doctor.
SpikeDelight @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:19PM
Say what you will about the concept but you can't say that 50 Cent FUCKING INFILTRATING THE MIDDLE EAST and fighting against them almost single-handedly isn't an epic premise! In the trailer the middle-eastern guy says, "The gangstas own the city, the whole country!" That is fucking hilarious! G-Unit took over ALL OF THAT FUCKING COUNTRY! Such a rental!
TheAbbotFire @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:22PM
In the club the ladies saying, "Fithy you HOT"
The plot is so fucking out there that I may just buy it.
It's 50 after all.
Amoveo @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:40PM
This game doesn't even deserve sarcastic praise.
Zorque @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:19PM
This is going to be a game of the year, and I'm not even being sarcastic. How can a game with a plot like that be bad?
Turkish Superman @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:38PM
I think this game looks/sounds hilarious. If I had a console I'd certainly at least rent it.
If it had steroid abusers wielding chainsaw guns I'm sure most of you would be more than willing to gloss over the flaws.
Joenz @ Oct 24th 2008 12:26AM
Boo on you THQ, Activision, and for anyone else working to bring this to the mainstream audience who unfortunately for the most part don't research their game purchases (as evidenced by the continuing success of the Ubisoft fluff franchiseZ). Using a popular movie, artist, or other pop culture reference to bring trash to market only makes those smart enough to know better angry. I still remember you Jet Li: Rise to Honor, don't think I've forgiven you yet. Did anyone actually enjoy the first 50 cent game enough to recommend it? How was producing this game a solid business plan over Ghostbusters which got canned?
j.howlett @ Oct 24th 2008 6:36AM
i loved rise to honor once i finally got the hang of it. and i didn't get the first 50 game, it sold alot though, i should pick it up though since it's cheap now
RPGJock @ Oct 24th 2008 2:03AM
As if Gears of War is a epic heroic tale based off true life. When did video games ever make sense?
A plumber can get suck down a pipe and suddenly rescue a princess being held against her will by a giant lizard turtle, but a brutha chasing after some ninjas who stole his bling is so far out there.
And for the few who going to type "its not ninjas he chasing after" go to urban dictionary and look up what ninja means in the urban community.
I'm just saying...
AwesomeTown @ Oct 24th 2008 7:28AM
Oh, man, thank you, THQ. I was getting worried there for a minute.
