Wii Music not so much of a joke in Japan
24
People like to poke fun, but if the Japanese are any indication, Wii Music is going to be serious business. The title debuted at the top spot in Japan this week, selling 92,000 copies. And 50,000 of those copies flew off the shelves on the game's first day at retail! But, doing well in Japan doesn't necessarily mean it'll do well in other territories. What do you think?

From all the hype, I'm sure it will initially do quite well, sales wise that is. I'm sure the ratings and reviews will show the truth as I believe this game seems to simplistic to hold any quality gameplay or replay value.
Wiggle your arms to play a Cello, drum to play the piano. Futurespective... Fail.
They can keep it overseas.

I can see this as a big family game for the holidays this year!

The game is probably going to do what other successful casual games do and sell consistently over a long period of time.
Even in North America.
Gamers will act like idiots (again) and squeal when it "only" sells 200,000 copies its first couple of weeks, and then it'll stay on the charts forever, like Wii Play or Wii Fit.

First party shovelware ftl. I have no doubt that it will sell well as countless zombies buy it, because it has Wii in the title and is made by Nintendo. Maybe they should have tossed in a free nunchuk to go with the remote that nearly every Wii owner has from Wii Play.

You know, I don't plan on picking this up, because I *do* think that it's essentially a $50 toy, I definitely wouldn't call it shovelware. It seems that Nintendo actually put a lot of time and effort into this, rather than just throwing some songs on a disc and trying to sell that to you.
Now, the song selection is a different story. About 1/3 of the tracks are public domain, and the licensed songs don't seem that great either. Still, if I could get this for $20 max, I'd consider it. But I don't doubt that many people will get more than their $50 worth of enjoyment from this.

Well.... I've owned all of the major consoles over the past decade. I can say with certainty that the Wii is the only console I've ever had that is sitting in my gameroom closet gathering dust. I still have my PS2 hooked up. I play my 360 regularly. So, I'm finding my Wii to be worth crap to me.

I am so sick of people bitching that their Wii collects dust. My 360 collected dust while I owned it because there was nothing worthwhile on the system that wasn't also on the PC. God forbid some of us want a system with some unique titles and not just the same old shit with a new coat of paint.
Here's an idea, if you're so bored with the wii games you have that you need to come online and complain about it, BUY SOME NEW GAMES! This isn't summer 2007, there's no lack of good content on the Wii. You just might have to actually *gasp* go buy something besides Wii Sports!

All of my consoles collect dust...because I don't dust them. I play the hell out of them though, but simply playing them doesn't dust them off.

Well...
I've spent a lot of time with Wii Music, and I have to say...
I think most of the people reviewing this software are utterly retarded.
I do understand their confusion; unlike say, Guitar Hero, the point isn't to follow along with what is essentially a glorified game of simon.
The point of Wii music is *arranging music* as opposed to mimicing someone else's tracks.
Basically, if you have no sense of rhythm, your output will sound like a mess.
As evidenced by many, many videos out there now showing what folks can do with wii music if they actually, you know, play thru the lessons and learn a little, one can do some very interesting arrangements of the songs.
As one more clued in reviewer put it: your score is based on how good your music sounds to you :)
To elaborate, your score is much more based on how your music sounds to others, heheh. If someone comes in and tells you it sounds like crap, there's your "score".
Also, of course, your friends can rate your arrangements and even do changes on the parts to make them better (or worse).
Wii Music is far from a random flingfest and actually has a bit of depth to it.
I wish i had a capture card so that i could make some vids of my own to show how well this actually works :/
The biggest failing of Wii Music really is outside of general cynicism, most reviewers don't seem to understand they are meant to create with the software, not mimic :)

I'm a huge Wii Music supporter and am glad that a "toy" is selling so wonderfully. By the way why label the game as a toy... I dont get it, couldnt we make the argument that every game is a toy or couldnt it be said that if Wii Music is a toy then a guitar or piano is also a toy. Sure they require alittle more skill and alot more knowledge but at its core your still waving your arms like a jackass

i will get it, since i hate the lack of imagination of guitar hero games, and after all, Mario Paint was one of the most innovative games of the 90ths, and this is pretty much the same but with music instead.

some people arent mean to buy a imagination demanding console as the wii tho :p

wow, what a great 'synopsis' or explanation of the game. like many others i've wondered "what tha hell is this supposed to do?", then thought "previews and reviews seem negative, so who cares". but after reading your comment, it seemed to 'click' for me. nice job. may get this for my nieces so i can take a crack at it too. but i'm with others...will wait for a big sale or special deal on it.

I picked this up the first day it came out and have been very excited about it for quite some time. Most reviews didn't inspire a whole lot of confidence in the game, but I kept thinking back to Miyamoto's comments about the way that Wii Music inspires creativity and imagination. I kept my enthusiasm and was richly rewarded.
I've already put in about 5 hours of game play in the first two days. (And all that has happened in the evening after long days at work...) This game keeps you thinking about it long after you're done playing. I have enjoyed the lessons and have put a lot of effort into arranging and re-arranging songs. Tinkering with instrument combinations... Laughing at the results... And just purely enjoying the musical experience.
This game is definitely worth a try for anyone who enjoys music. :-)

I finished up my session a minute ago (2+ hours on one song) and I'm already giddy as shit thinking about the other tweaks I can start making tomorrow after work. My only complaint so far is that there's no option to save during a session but maybe I'm missing something.
BTW, the song was 'La Bamba' (electronic style) with the sitar on melody, big Japanese drums and the 'singer' instrument on chord, muahahaha. Sorry, I just can't contain myself...this game is too awesome.
