Over at the BBC blog, they've let loose images and info on their new version of the iPlayer for Wii. Further optimized to take advantage of the large Wii audience, they've added some polish to what used to be a barebones interface, increasing the resolution and taking down the clutter with big, friendly buttons. Basically, it's what you see above.
While we'd like to check out the new and improved iPlayer (and maybe watch an episode of Dr. Who or something), it's for UK residents only. Supposedly, they're working on worldwide acccess, but we've no idea when that will happen.

Seriously...NBC/CBS/ABC, et al. need to get on this. With ~15 million Wiis in the USA, that's a large stream of advertising revenue they could pull in by offering something similar. I would much prefer to watch some of these shows with a single 15 second commercial through my TV, rather than having to use my computer (or plug my computer into my TV).
BBC is a good start...doesn't help me in Missouri, though...

Most TV corporations have online video players, though none for Wii.
However, I think the biggest issue isn't even making a Wii version, it's legal issues with different countries.
I live in Canada, and I don't know when I"m even going to get Hulu.com or access to NBC and ABCs online video player... It sucks, and until that get's fixed, I doubt we'll see Wii versions if at all after that.
