Criterion prepping four more Burnout Paradise updates

Motorcycles in Burnout Paradise? Awesome. Even, er ... awesome-r is today's announcement that Criterion is planning at least four additional DLC content packs for the game. Placeholder images for the packs are already up on the developer's newly revamped site, along with word that the contents of the first pack will be laid bare on Friday, Oct. 31.
The remaining three packs will be revealed each subsequent Friday (Nov. 7, Nov. 14, and Nov. 24). It's almost certain that one of the packs will introduce an entirely new island, which Criterion has been working on for some time. As for the others ... what would you like to see? (If they aren't, in fact, additional islands.)

uh... Crash mode?
Ghen @ Oct 25th 2008 5:39AM
please elaborate, they have crash racing and showtime mode in the game already.
Jakka @ Oct 25th 2008 6:00AM
The crash mode sucks. People want the classic Crash from Burnout 3.
Dave @ Oct 25th 2008 6:41PM
What Jakka said. I'm talking about traditional crash mode with crash courses.
Here's more:

I know at least one of those updates will be the in-game photo patch. As for the third I would take a wild guess and say more bikes? Maybe cars? And the third of course the islands.
Kspraydad @ Oct 24th 2008 10:41PM
Airplanes.
Ghen @ Oct 25th 2008 5:39AM
that we can crash into buildings? Yeah, that'll go over well LOL.
quickshade @ Oct 25th 2008 12:57PM
Dear lord, and we thought hot coffee was bad, I can see the headlines now. "Game teaches kids to crash planes into buildings because it's fun"
Of course without jack Thompson who knows how far it would go.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 24th 2008 10:42PM
Damn they're really letting loose with this free DLC thing. I'm not even a racing game fan but I feel a need to buy paradise just to support free DLC and hope that maybe...just maybe more people will do it.
Markez @ Oct 24th 2008 10:52PM
I feel the same way. I haven't been a huge fan of any sort of racing game (outside of Kart, which doesn't really count) since some of the earlier Need for Speed games on the Cube or PS2, which ruled. The newer ones seem like they've gotten a little out of hand with the street cars and all that nonsense.
That being said, Burnout has always looked pretty good to me, and it seems to be the gift that keeps giving.
=Curve= @ Oct 24th 2008 11:35PM
For $30 it's a STEAL.
The game is long, almost too long, but the addition bikes has extended the game by almost 10 hours.
THIS is the game you spend the whole generation. playing occasionally, to complete to 101% (I know some have, I'm not even close).
It's fun. Online is fun when everyone cooperates, the cars are fun to drive, and the inclusion of night and weather effects have done wonders. (Game looks great at night in the city).
I can't recommend it more.
Kellydude025 @ Oct 25th 2008 1:02AM
i hate to say it...but:
I wish they would ditch paradise and start working on another "Burnout Revenge" type game
Jakka @ Oct 25th 2008 6:02AM
@ Kelly Dude
100% Agree.
I'd rather have it done with B3-style and physics though as that's imo the best in the series.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 25th 2008 6:04AM
Biggest bargain on the consoles you can get.
Had it since January and still play it all the time, incredible game from incredible developers.
Just don't buy it 2nd hand, show Criterion your support by getting it new or off the PSN.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 24th 2008 10:43PM
Thats pretty sweet. It guess their in-game advertisement scheme is paying off.
Jacksons @ Oct 24th 2008 10:50PM
I'll take all four.
Arturo @ Oct 24th 2008 10:54PM
Hrrm, I thought about trading this game in to make it easier to pay for titles through November, but I might just have to keep this one and find another way...
azuravian @ Oct 25th 2008 12:10PM
And herein lies their strategy. We hear all the time how devs/pubs don't like the used/trade-in business since they make no money off of it. Adding free or even reasonably priced DLC that reinvigorates a game helps to reduce the amount of people trading it in, thereby making more money for the dev in new sales.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 24th 2008 10:54PM
Awesome game....Criterion is proving they're in the top 5 developers in the business...People should start taking Notes! I'm looking at you Polyphony Digital!
tmmoore_nc @ Oct 24th 2008 10:58PM
It would be really sweet if the last update had a super secret Zombie Car Mode for online play. It seems to be the rage this time of year for some reason.
Let's see...the Island, Airplanes, More Motorcycles, Ballooning, and Speedboats.
Amirisme @ Oct 24th 2008 11:29PM
Islands?
Crash Mode?
More Cars/Bikes?
SPLIT SCREEN MODE?!!!!
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 25th 2008 6:07AM
Oh sweet jesus yes!
Split screen mode would be the best addition possible, but i've heard that it would basically require a complete overhaul of the code.
If anyone can do it, they can, i hope they can do it somehow.
Marconi88 @ Oct 24th 2008 11:44PM
This game is amazing and other developers should take note of what Criterion is doing in post release support.
With that said, I wish they put a "retry" option in one of those patches.
N. Mayer @ Oct 25th 2008 12:46AM
It would be awesome if Motorcycles were given their own Road Rage events... like a current gen version of Road Rash. I'm drooling at the thought of taking out other bikers with a lead pipe or a chain whip in HD!
Paulmichael @ Oct 25th 2008 2:54AM
This game is great fun. Especially online. I've got quite the collection of mug, smug, and other 'shots and photos in my XMB from many games. It's great! To offer all this DLC for free is more than any of us could have asked for.
Lekko @ Oct 25th 2008 3:20AM
hehehe... I hope the one after the island is pedestrians.
Twist @ Oct 25th 2008 3:51AM
Leave this game alone and get to work on Black 2 dammit!!!!!!!!!
Bowser the Baptist @ Oct 25th 2008 6:12AM
Don't listen to this guy.
mutd1999 @ Oct 25th 2008 12:07PM
Hmm...I love Burnout, but Black was pretty damn wicked...I'd love a Black 2 sooner rather than later. :P
Twist @ Oct 26th 2008 1:39AM
All I am saying is they have made what two or three Burnout games since Black so it is time for another go at that franchise.
The Aggie CEO @ Oct 25th 2008 8:30AM
dont feel like looking.........
but has the 360 version even gotten the Bikes update yet???
its been a while since I seen anything but I remember that it wasnt released for some reason or another........may be out now.....
The Aggie CEO @ Oct 25th 2008 8:31AM
nevermind it was the update prior to bikes that they took forever too get on the 360......
proceed to vote the above comment down....lol
I'll start it off
M @ Oct 25th 2008 9:46AM
The bikes were a nice surprise, but it seems like their crash animations are extremely brief compared to the car crashes. I'm talking about just driving around and accidentally hitting a bus or something, not the Crash Mode.
Sen @ Oct 25th 2008 9:50AM
I just was split-screen and Crash mode again. Please?
NeoHumpty @ Oct 25th 2008 11:55AM
I don't know how they could pull crash mode off. I still miss it, though. Sitting there for hours trying to get that flip timed just right to bounce across 4 lanes of traffic, thru the trees and onto a whole new road. Awesome. You guys are making me all nostalgic.
They have given me alot of free stuff, enough so that I wouldn't mind seeing some paid for content. If they give us all this for free, imagine the content you could get with old fashioned cash. Can you say "Batmobile"?
But, please take note...a Retry option after losing would ROCK!!!
NeoHumpty @ Oct 25th 2008 12:03PM
Seriously, I pay $.99 for characters that aren't worth a darn way too much (speaking to you, PAIN and High Velocity Bowling). Would love to see some exclusive specialty cars, even if they're only allowed off line.
David Hinkle @ Oct 25th 2008 1:01PM
Uh, hey, Criterion, before you go adding more stuff, fix the day and night cycle, please. At night, you can't see anything. It pretty much wrecked the game for me.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 25th 2008 3:18PM
You can turn it off in the options forcrissakes!
Personally i enjoyed going back through the earlier stuff on my trophy run at night, made burning routes and road rage events MUCH more interesting.
And headlight-cam midnight bike rides are AWESOME.
Weclock @ Oct 25th 2008 4:02PM
How about a patch removing political slant?
/totally ruins suspension of disbelief.
ill trooper @ Oct 25th 2008 6:28PM
That 'patch' comes out the first week of November, I think~
ill trooper @ Oct 25th 2008 6:27PM
I can't help but think this is a weird experiment or something... I'm sure some producer at EA is asking 'More DLC for Paradise? What the fuck are they doing, that game came out a year ago!' and another producer is saying 'They're trying out the long-term DLC model to see how it does,' and then they both shrug and go about their business.
I'm a fan, but I can't see this being profitable for them!
xexyz @ Oct 25th 2008 7:45PM
I want cops. To run from, to have to look out for, to issue speeding tickets, and to have to wreck to get away from.
Anthony @ Oct 26th 2008 1:41AM
Trust me. In the long term free DLC gets people to buy non free things... Like the next Burnout game...
Anthony @ Oct 25th 2008 9:12PM
I loved Paradise, but it's a day late and a dollar short. I already traded it in for the much more feature rich Midnight Club.
Sure the crashing isn't as awesome, but all the extra stuff is worth losing a feature. Even if it is the most awesome feature of either game.
drun @ Oct 26th 2008 11:18PM
turn all non-racing cars into Autobots?
Gonzo @ Oct 27th 2008 4:29PM
I WOULD like to see them working on a new game. I'll buy it; unless its a complete travesty like Dominator.
They need a new game with Crash Junctions. The races are horrible in the open world thing so if they're going to stick with the sandbox, please give us more marked man & road rage events.
wreyser x @ Oct 28th 2008 11:25PM
I would LOVE to see the bikes C R A S H ! ! ! the old Crash mode would be nice, Freeburn racing, more maps (of course), boost for the bikes and huh.... can I race the cars against the bikes!?!? I prefer any of these over the "Airplanes".
