Joystiq Podcast 070 - The Opulence Edition
We know, we know, it's such a terrible problem to have, but we really are being overwhelmed with good games. Dead Space and FarCry 2 get the bulk of our time, but there's a little Fable 2 discussion in there for you as well.
Plus: Emails, brushes, and why we'll think twice about calling someone autistic on a very special Joystiq Podcast. Oh, and you have the JPAG's Wesley Johnson to thank/blame for the photochoppin'.

That's probably one of the worst photochop-ups to date, sorry Wesley
Weclock @ Oct 24th 2008 4:22PM
Keep your G*dd*mn politics out of my G*dd*mn video games. Video games are an escape from the real world, because things like politics are just damn retarded. I'm not for McCain, I'm not for Obama, I'm against stupidity, which puts both candidates in the trashcan. Don't even bring up their VP candidates either, that's just retarded.
squeevi @ Oct 24th 2008 4:30PM
I think someone needs a hug :-p
Obie @ Oct 24th 2008 4:31PM
But Obama is so dreamy!
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 24th 2008 4:35PM
How do you live with yourself if you're against stupidity?
Fox318 @ Oct 24th 2008 4:37PM
Oh will you fuckin relax. whither you like it or not Obama has become a part of pop culture. Same with Bushisms.
&rew @ Oct 24th 2008 4:57PM
Thank you for censoring Goddamn, it would have offended everyone... oh no! What have I done!!?
syrik zero @ Oct 24th 2008 5:48PM
Have you seen the Obama girl? She's bangin'!
DangerMouse @ Oct 24th 2008 6:18PM
"Thank you for censoring *******, it would have offended everyone... oh no! What have I done!!?"

syrik zero @ Oct 24th 2008 7:27PM
Sounds like we're in the same boat Batman
theturtle363 @ Oct 25th 2008 12:50AM
i think you mean the bat boat
syrik zero @ Oct 25th 2008 2:09PM
Damn Batman, once again you're a step ahead. One day I'll get you...

Haon @ Oct 24th 2008 5:03PM
Try again. I got it.
F1 @ Oct 24th 2008 6:07PM
I did several times and it still wont download. *Goes into a corner and begins to weep*
Zertoss @ Oct 24th 2008 5:07PM
Speaking of the LBP delay, I just got a tracking number from Gamestop for my copy. I'm wondering if the fixed discs got out early, an "offensive" copy slipped out, or they sent me a tracking number to a package that hasn't actually been shipped yet.
Bass Masterson @ Oct 24th 2008 5:12PM
I just think you Obamatards are hilarious. You're a bunch of giggling morons, like the Branch Davidians, so assured of the divinity of this empty shell. You'll get your hollow victory, but we're all going to pay for it. For years.
Zertoss @ Oct 24th 2008 5:17PM
You could say that about every candidate.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 24th 2008 5:21PM
Because the last 8 years have been so amazing right? I've learned to instantly discredit anyone who's a republican and calls other people morons.
Weclock @ Oct 24th 2008 5:31PM
Democrat or Republican, politics have turned into a massive playground fight.
Bass Masterson @ Oct 24th 2008 8:30PM
The last 2 years were bad. The 6 before it were awesome (financially). You're deluding yourself if you think otherwise. You're really deluding yourself if you think this is the fault of 'the Republican party' and giving full control of our government to the Democrats is 'the answer'.
And I'm registered Republican just so I can vote for the more qualified candidate, McCain. I'm not a party-liner. I don't listen to Rush, I don't watch Fox News religiously (although I do occasionally turn to it to escape the blatant pro-Obama bias on every other channel). McCain doesn't make me giggle, or make me swoon when he wears bluejeans. He doesn't make me "tremble in awe when I think of him" or "send a chill up my leg". He's just the better candidate.

Weclock @ Oct 24th 2008 5:34PM
Listen to yourselves, Politics are retarded, whether you're for George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Al Gore, or Barack Obama, you seriously have to take a step back and think about how ridiculous all these people are. The Media is even worse. The United States hasn't had a decent candidate in years. While this will probably be the most historical election of my life time, I seriously doubt I'll look back on it with fondness. Whoever wins, we lose.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 24th 2008 5:38PM
you sir, are doing a fantastic job of keeping politics out of my video game website.
ogvor @ Oct 24th 2008 5:46PM
Do you even listen to the podcast or are you here to flip a shit about politics?
Weclock @ Oct 24th 2008 5:46PM
you sir, have seem to caught on to my trolling.
syrik zero @ Oct 24th 2008 6:14PM
Dude, you got the face/palm polar bear, no good
theturtle363 @ Oct 24th 2008 5:40PM
Chris I assume you're talking about the PC version of Far Cry 2. I have the Xbox 360 version, and although only having played it for only about 10 minutes, I haven't been able to destroy any trees. I'll also have to contradict Justins claims of it being the best looking game ever. A lot of things, especially tree tops still seemed to have a problem with jaggedy edges. It also seems glaringly evident as soon as I popped the disc in that it would look loads better on PC.
theturtle363 @ Oct 24th 2008 5:45PM
Since you guys didnt talk about Fable 2, I will. I feel like Peter really did fufill his promise of making the game feel like my world. The changes that happen to me and the world through my choices really help with that and are a great step forward for games. But like plenty of other people have mentioned, I didn't feel connected to the people in the world, making hand motions and varying grunts doesn't make me feel like a real person, neither did the rather lackluster story. I feel like Fable would benefit from a traditional rpg conversation, as in you listen to them and then you choose your response, or at least a new version like Mass Effect
syrik zero @ Oct 24th 2008 6:16PM
I don't know if anyone will remember... But did anyone play Blue Stinger for Dreamcast? I think it's along the line of Dead Space. It's obviously not as good as Dead Space. But there are a lot of similarities. You should check it out
Sokkratez @ Oct 24th 2008 6:38PM
Portal: Still Alive is available on the PC, guys. And it's free. It's just a different name. The levels are based on the Flash version of Portal that was made last year. A mapping team went to the trouble of making them in Portal proper. Valve and Microsoft repackaged them, unchanged, as Portal: Still Alive and sold it to 360 owners.

Joystiq joines the MSM elites. Way to go.
Relativ @ Oct 24th 2008 11:58PM
Justin: "And this weeks brush with fame goes to -- Relativ, congratulation's Relativ your e-penis just grew by 10 inches."
Chris: "he...you felt he deserved it!?"
Justin: "yes, yes i did"
Ludvig: "come on Chris, It's Relativ we're talking about here, i mean the guy's absolutely te..."
Chris: "no yeah, i totally see it now"
*Chris and Ludvig starts laughing smugly while Justin laughs hysterically as he does with msost things.*
Ludvig: "I'm sorry i can't do this anymore"
Justin: "Hehe so just to let you guys know, this guy wrote a comment on our last podcast typing up a script for us to read during the brush with fame."
Christ: "In fact nothing we're saying right now are our own words"
Ludvig: "We really should be careful, this guy has found some sort of magical way to control us"
Justin: "Yes and now that he has an enlarged e-penis he'll be unstoppable"
Chris: "Yeah the whole thing is really scary, and also i like men"
Justin: "okey so that's it for the brush with fame, congratulations great master Relativ."
CH3BURASHKA @ Oct 25th 2008 1:56AM
Alright everybody, I'm starting a petition. I know you are all just as unnerved as I am that the theme music hasn't officially changed to Fez Dispenser by Hence the Name (see podcast 50).
EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO HEAR IT, COMMENT ON THIS POST.
WE WILL OVERCOME
crossax @ Oct 25th 2008 10:41AM
OMG, Zombies in GTA IV mulityplayer :(. I stopped playing that 2 weeks after it came out. Is this an attempt to get people to play it more? I wont. (not hating on the game, just did not catch me, is all) I will try the DLC when that comes out.
justindennis80 @ Oct 25th 2008 11:44AM
Okay, I'm not sure if this actually happened or if I'm just going bat-shit crazy, but at around the 29:50 mark when Justin rudely interrupts Chris, doesn't it sound like Chris just randomly says "banana hammock?" Please, someone else listen to this so I know if I'm sane or should check into a mental institution .......banana hammock.
juliusdeane (Jarret) @ Oct 25th 2008 8:22PM
Finally the Joystiq Podcast is back on topic: human taxidermy. I've wasted many an hour waiting for this.
j.howlett @ Oct 25th 2008 8:33PM
this is my third attempt to listen to the podcast and now a thunderstorm is threatening to interrupt. the survival horror talk reminds me of why i don't want to play dead space but i'm still excited for it. perhaps later i will feel up to it.
j.howlett @ Oct 25th 2008 9:31PM
they made another goty mention and it could still go to ninja gaiden 2 if not fall out 3
Harold Burnett @ Oct 26th 2008 10:35AM

steve @ Oct 30th 2008 11:46AM
Why isn't this podcast nominated in the podcast awards? I abstained in the gaming category even though I listen to most of the nominees because Joystiq was not on the list!
Floyd @ Oct 30th 2008 12:34PM
This is the best podcast out there. They bring it home every week; I swear you guys are atomic powered robots from the future.
markhill66 @ Oct 31st 2008 5:58AM
Is it next Friday yet? I need more.
