We're big fans of the Xbox Live Video Marketplace, largely due to our own barren DVD collection and our nationwide banning from Blockbuster Video following our refusal to pay a $230 late fee on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. That's why this week's New Xbox Experience sneak preview on Gamerscore Blog caught our eye -- it focuses on the revamped Video Marketplace and the soon-to-be-added Netflix functionality.
No groundbreaking new information is revealed in the blog post, though some interesting statistics are given -- upon the launch of the NXE, Netflix Unlimited subscribers with Xbox Live Gold accounts will be able to instantly stream over 12,000 movies to their consoles. Combined with more than 20,000 pieces of content on the XBVM, the NXE is shaping up to be a cinematic treasure trove -- best of all, there's no late fees, meaning we can finally enjoy all that trouser-centric teen drama on our own terms.

I own both consoles, and I'd still be very willing to pay for this, due to the quality. I don't want to watch a movie were I have to squint my eyes to try and see what's happening. Especially if I'm watching something on my HD-TV with some friends. They definitely wouldn't sit through something like that.
PS3 fanboys have been claiming for years now that blu-ray is the way forward, due to the higher quality, now you're trying to say you're fine with YouTube quality movies?

The Netflix service is awesome anyways. I've been with them for several years now and they almost always have a quick turnaround time, often as little as two days depending on where I drop off the outgoing mail. It'll be nice to have the Watchnow feature built into my console, though I doubt I'll use it much. Of the 200+ titles in my queue only a handful are available for streaming and none of them are movies I've not seen before (I've watched a few TV shows). Right now I heavily use the PlayOn software to watch Hulu content thru my console. It works pretty well, the quality actually seems quite a bit better, and they have a larger selection of stuff I want to watch. I'm going to stick with Netflix for the rentals, but I highly recommend to anybody who hasn't already checked it out to give a look to www.hulu.com and 360 owners interested in console support (works on PS3 too, but I've not tried it) to check out http://www.themediamall.com/playon

All I am saying is that you can watch any movie or TV show you want to for free on the PS3. In all honesty, I would rather watch a lower quality stream for free than a SD stream for a monthly fee. Not to mention the feed on these sites is not near as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Not even close.
If all you own is a 360 then this is a good thing. If you have both then there is no need to use this service in my opinion.
If you guys want to pay for the service then so be it. But, don't downplay the ability to stream the same exact content (and much more not available on the 360) for free.
It's a nice addition but until Netflicks offers HD streams then there is very little difference in the quality of the two services.
@Deaftly
That means so much coming from a Terd Sandwich.

i've been downloading HD rips of my favorite movies/tv shows onto my external hard drive, then steaming them to my TV wirelessly through my 360.

Thats not the point or the issue. We all know both consoles can function as a media server. This is about streaming content in real time from the web as opposed to downloading or ripping content to an external drive and streaming through a service like tversity, connect 360 or medialink.

Um, Hulu, anyone? It's how I get my free movie- and show-streaming fix, anyway. But if do you make good use of it, Netflix can be an awesome thing.
