There are many writers on the Joystiq payroll who are of the firm opinion that the Wii incarnation of Resident Evil 4 was the best version of the multi-platform title. That's why we were understandably disappointed when it was outed that Resident Evil 5 would not be coming to Nintendo's console -- though according the game's producer, Masachika Kawata, a Wii port of RE5 was never a remote possibility. Due to the game's graphical improvements over the previous installment, "The title screen of this couldn't have been done on PS2 or Wii," Kawata explained in a recent GameTrailers interview.
Nintendo fanboys shouldn't be too disheartened by this somewhat brash claim -- in a later, seperate interview with GameTrailers, Jun Takeuchi, yet another producer for the title, said that Capcom would love to continue the Resident Evil franchise on the Wii, though such a reunion is "a couple of years down the road."

Maybe it will be a title-screen that shows real-time footage of the actual game... otherwise this is flamebait POS.
Why can't they just use the RE4 controls and engine to make RE5, it would be fantastic :D

Funny, I thought that's what they did. Now, I really don't know any technical details about RE5, but to me it looks like RE4 in HD. Some of those zombie animations look familiar in the video Wiifanboy linked to.

actually, the other co-producer on RE5 is Jun Takeuchi, not "juntake uchi." He was also the producer on Lost Planet.

As a fan of Resident Evil and an owner of all three consoles (Wii, PS3, and 360), I'm glad to see this piece of news. The reason? Because if Capcom wants another Resident Evil on the Wii, rather then make a potentially shitty port of Resident Evil 5 (which I'll be playing on 360 anyways) they'd have to either remake one of the previous games, make another "Umbrella Chronicles", or make an entirely new Resident Evil, possible taking advantadge of the Resident Evil 4 game engine. All of these ideas mean more Resident Evil for me, which I'm all for! So,
I'd much rather Capcom use their resources for something fresh for the Wii rather than just a port of RE5 (and with this piece of news, a port probably won't happen).

Yeah, Tmac, the port is looking shitty as all hell so far (lets hope that changes - dude who had some hands on time with the newer tech demo said it had a hundred zombies on screen at once), but what Khan meant was that developers have ported games over that the Wii wouldn't be thought to handle before.

I'd prefer a brand new Resident Evil for the Wii, as opposed to an RE5 port. But I would NOT want another Umbrella Chronicles if it meant no RE4/RE5 style game.
Could Capcom do a respectable RE5 version for the Wii? Yes, if they put the A-Team on it. Unfortunately, though, Dead Rising, a game which COULD have been done properly on the Wii, suggests that they'd put yet another 10-man team on it with a budget of less than 2 million.
RE5 isn't even a Day 1 buy for me, to be honest. RE4 didn't click with me until I played it on the Wii. It's still the only game to really proves that changing the controller really can make a game feel completely different, IMO. So while I'm eager to play it on the 360, there's still this little voice in the back of my mind that keeps reminding me that I probably won't love it.
So yeah...brand new Resident Evil for the Wii, please!

In all fairness people don't usually want what they know they can't have. If you have a Wii and you hear this news of course you would down play it like you didn't like RE:4 anyway or the Wii port was what made RE:4 good. It's human nature.
RE:5 & Killzone 2 are easily the only two 2009 games to care about as of right now.

I liked RE4 for what it was - or should have been... a one-time arcade-like spinoff, sorta like "action-RE". But I'm pissed as hell that now they made the entire series into Gears. Because we already have Gears. Now we won't have a real survival horror game, like the ones I enjoyed on the original Playstation.

Not a bug surprise. In fact it's almost a captain obvious statement.
Let's just be clear here ... Nintendo didn't want to make a machine capable of porting next gen games. They wanted to make what they made ... The Wii
It's a moneymaker and 99% of Wii owners could care less about Resident Evil. It's a system for Mario and other Nintendo IP's which aren't really known for being graphical powerhouses or even technical marvels. Sure, the Wii can handle PS2 games and extremely toned down PS3 & 360 games but thats not what the console is for. Nintendo didn't make the Wii for the more hardcore gamers. They made it for the Nintendo loyalist and to bring new people to gaming. It was a great business decision but it's not something that has served them well with the gamers who buy 10 or more games a year - like readers of Joystiq.
It's just stating the obvious. It's like comparing pop a shot arcade basketball to the NBA.
I don't even mean it as an insult. It is what it is. It's just not for the same type of people that are here on joystiq. If you are here on joystiq and only own a Wii you are a nintendo fanboy. Obviously.

While I agree with the developers, it really bugs me that anyone with real authority to bash a system about its power sounds just like the fanboys.
Seriously, you don't hear developers complain that they would have to rework the game to the point where it simply would not be the same game, it would cost too much, the design of the game doesn't adapt to the controller, or whatnot. Instead, the particle engine would lose its sparkle or the polygon count would have to be stripped. Oh, no!
Frankly, I see limited memory as being one of the Wii's major setbacks, because that influences game engine logic, not just graphics. Nobody ever talks about that, including the people who actually know what they are talking about.
Anyway, the Wii has hundreds upon hundreds of games available right now. Why cry over RE5 when there's so much phenomenal quality from which to choose?

Yeah that's a big fat bunch of bullshit. Purely gameplay wise, there is NOTHING on modern consoles that couldn't be done in the Wii, or the original Xbox for that matter. Even though god knows some people would absolutely love to have you believe so, modern gameplay is -nothing special-. Your expensive box generates shiny sparklies, other than that, it's not special, it's not magical. The Wii can do almost anything, it's developers and publishers that choose not to because they cannot dress it up with pretty fucking filters and normal maps.
And you know what, if you disregard things such as physics (I'm getting sick of physics based gameplay anyway... don't tell me you aren't) then it's even a stretch to imagine any gameplay concept that wouldn't have been possible on the N64 or PS1. Go ahead and try.

I hope for Capcom's sake this game doesn't suck. Because if the game blows, all the super-duper graphics in the world aren't going to save it's ass.

people here are just ridiculous. yeah, we know we know. wii is underpowered graphically compared to the other consoles. we've known this even before the system was released 2 years ago. yet, we are still talking about it, trying ever opportunity to rub it in. but that is only half the story. people just ignore the other stuff, or avoid talking about it. technology wise, the wii user interface is light years beyond the 360 and ps3. the combination of techs in the wiimote is the best thing to arrive on the video game scene since sliced bread whether you want to admit it or not. and yes, online capaability is also a big advancement. graphics to me, not so much. whether you want to believe it or not, last gen graphics are still sufficient, and always have been, as evidenced by where the money is being spend on video games. listen, individual-handed control, motion, IR pointing, audio feedback with remote speaker. these are all great techs, and in combination, wii's user interface is way more advanced. so in reality, tech advancement between consoles is really just a wash. listen, consumers aren't idiots, as much as self-proclaimed hardcore elitists think most people are. they know where to put their money. and don't you think the reason wii is successful has a lot to do with core gamers buying the system and games? use common sense, its not the grannies and babies buying the wii that make it the most successful console. they are factor but not as much as exaggerated by folk here. it has more to do with the core gamer subset. you guys are buying it. so quit crying and complaining. the wii is the best selling console this gen, like the ps2 before it. accept it. a few exclusive games here and there it misses isn't going to take it down. see MGS4, and GTA4. it won't matter, wii music is still going to sell the boatload whether you understand what it brings to gaming or not.

Wow, way to repeat a previous poster's text.
The fact is I haven't been interested enough in gaming since the Playstation to think about a new console...
the Wii is making me think about games again...
It may not be the cutting edge, but it's FUN.
Isn't that the point?.. Or is it JUST elitism?
