November issue of Qore to include Home closed beta invite
Those who've been anxiously awaiting their chance to virtually mingle with fellow PS3 owners in Sony's much-anticipated Home, but have been unable to procure an invite to the closed beta would be well-served by checking out the November issue of Qore. The sixth edition of the "interactive magazine" will not only feature a comprehensive tour of Sony's social networking tool (given by the incomparable Veronica Belmont), but will reportedly also include an invite into the Home closed beta for both annual Qore subscribers, and one-time purchasers.
The next issue, and your best chance to get an early look at Sony's Second Life-esque service, will be coming early next month.

Seriously, I mentioned in another article but we need a Joystiq Home space, preferably where we can listen to the latest Joystiq podcast too.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 4:11PM
While it would be an interesting idea, it might not be possible on a technical level.
Getting the space would be no problem. The Home space could be hosted by an of us. I don't know if streaming custom audio is something that can be done. I'm also not sure about the ability to share pictures and video, as those have yet to be introduced in the beta.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 4:14PM
I just thought of something.
I don't know what happens to the home space when the host plays a game. i.e. If there are four people in a room, and the host and another person begin a game, what happens to the other two people?
Also, I don't know if Sony will be freely handing out environments for social/news sites like Joystiq.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 4:23PM
oh yea, I don't mean to be an ass. I'm just trying to point out some problems in creating a joystiq home space.
I do think its an interesting idea though, and it would definitely give me more of a reason to use Home.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 4:23PM
~the end
Ayrkain @ Oct 26th 2008 4:31PM
Sharing audio from user to user may not be included, but it's not because streaming audio doesn't work. There is a Music kiosk in Home Central that does just that. Video and pictures are the same way. If they were part of a room, it'd be no big deal.
Superstar90 @ Oct 26th 2008 4:38PM
Great idea, then we can meet commenters in person... or err... virtual person.
Noshino @ Oct 26th 2008 5:20PM
well, I think don't just give away those kind of spaces, but iirc, businesses can contact Sony for plans or something like that, so yah, it would pretty much up to AOL to make the Joystiq space happen
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 6:02PM
get on that Chris
Lionbacker @ Oct 26th 2008 4:14PM
Woohoo!
quickshade @ Oct 26th 2008 4:18PM
We shall see what happens, Home is over a year late now, and still doesn't offer anything that would make me jump over to it, plus with the netflix deal on Live, whats the point of using home.
The_Punisher (MR ESC NOOOOO) @ Oct 26th 2008 6:10PM
So watching movies and a virtual world where you chat and meet are the same thing?
Good to know....retard fanboy......
Kspraydad @ Oct 26th 2008 9:33PM
I can watch Netflix on my PS3 (and remote play it to my PSP for good measure) for a one time 30$ fee plus my Netflix costs...no 'Gold' required.
Just sayin'
Negativecool @ Oct 26th 2008 4:37PM
Beta invites? Seriously? Are we supposed to be excited about this? Enough with the god damn beta phase and get to release already! PS3 sales could use the boost right now.
JerJerBinks @ Oct 26th 2008 8:54PM
Obviously, you haven't been in the beta. Home will not sell consoles. It is a social and advertising tool, not a killer app.
Negativecool @ Oct 26th 2008 9:25PM
JerJerBinks-
What is it that advertising tools do? Sell consoles? Kthxbai
JerJerBinks @ Oct 27th 2008 9:49AM
Are you serious?
The advertising is IN HOME. How do you expect to sell a console via advertising that is in Home? Anyways, the advertising in Home is for Sony games, TVs, and movies, and it is everywhere.
PSN: Erdie @ Oct 26th 2008 4:40PM
I can wait. Checking out developer's areas could be interesting, but I usually intend to play a game, watch a movie or play music when I turn my PS3 on.
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 4:45PM
i would try quore if i had funds to spare but the beta invites don't entice me.
TwistedBishop @ Oct 26th 2008 5:02PM
Having recently purchased a PS3, I went ahead and bought a single issue of Qore (the recent Halloween-themed one) to test it out. Let's just say, you're not missing much. Unless you really want to pay $3 for the sorts of videos you get for free everywhere else.
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 5:18PM
i used to get dvd magazines all the time, and fully expect qore to be on par with tv shows and internet clips. since i can easily get the info free if they had some other hook or interactivity i'd seriously consider a subscription. maybe if they gave out prizes or dlc codes for playing games through qore.
Mr Khan @ Oct 26th 2008 6:32PM
So, what, it's kinda like a for-pay version of the Nintendo Channel, just somewhat more centralized?
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 7:04PM
sowhutchusayin?
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 26th 2008 7:08PM
Quore is similar to the Nintendo Channel in that there are exclusive videos that high lite specific games.
In one episode of Quore, there are about four games that are focused on. All the videos are generally developer interviews. In each game section there is usually some concept art, but thats not very interesting.
The interviews are generally pretty shallow in terms of technical information, but they are interesting to watch. It seems like the purpose of the videos are to give the viewer a better sense of what a game in question is trying to present in terms of gameplay, story, mechanics, etc.
To date, I have not seen information/videos from Quore put directly onto the internet.
The other aspect of Quore is the demo/beta access; which may or may not be interesting to people.
Thats Quore in a nutshell.
Cubfan786 @ Oct 26th 2008 4:52PM
So can you actually bowl in the Home thingy???
Cubfan786 @ Oct 26th 2008 4:54PM
Plus it would be cool if say they made a streaming video deal you go to the virtual movies and watch the movie or something like that.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 26th 2008 5:17PM
yep, there's tons of mini games included.
Something just to pass time.
JerJerBinks @ Oct 26th 2008 8:57PM
There are a few minigames; bowling, pool, darts, along with arcade rip offs, and licensed classic games. It's not bad, but it will get old after a few rounds.
deaftly @ Oct 26th 2008 5:27PM
Ive been in the home beta for a while now, heres my review.
Fuckin thing sucks.
Jake11 @ Oct 26th 2008 5:33PM
WE'LL DO IT LIVE!! fuckin thing sucks
ropeburn @ Oct 26th 2008 6:00PM
I knew it
ropeburn @ Oct 26th 2008 6:00PM
I knew it
Haggard @ Oct 26th 2008 6:01PM
Well yeah, a Sony propaganda-laden Second Life rip-off was never really going to be that fun.
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 26th 2008 6:32PM
Thanks for the great insight and commentary ...
In other words Deaftly is a terd sandwich
JerJerBinks @ Oct 26th 2008 9:01PM
As a Home beta tester, I tend to agree. It feels like an advertising laden version of Second Life. If decorating virtual spaces, playing mini-games, and running around in circles sounds like fun, then Home is for you.
Kspraydad @ Oct 26th 2008 9:35PM
Oh...its just Deaftly again.
zuburi @ Oct 26th 2008 5:36PM
Wait, didn't they say Home was supposed to LAUNCH in November?
This looks like their way of backing out on that.
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 26th 2008 6:01PM
Launches to all people that PAY! =p
jaferris @ Oct 26th 2008 6:28PM
what bout people in uk where cant buy qore will there be another way too get invited too home ???
BlackBeltJones @ Oct 26th 2008 6:56PM
After hearing Cheapy D talk about the beta on the Cagcast, I'm even less interested in Home than I was before.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 26th 2008 8:15PM
Yeah it's pretty safe to say by now that Home is gonna be a flop, but at least it was free and last I checked not mandatory so really how much can one complain?
I've also seen 0 commercials of LBP on any major channels so I'm expecting it to not sell very well. Congrats Sony, you've fucked up more than I thought was humanly possible.
Mr Khan @ Oct 26th 2008 9:20PM
Only commercials i've seen this season were Far Cry, Shaun White's, and Dead Space, nothing else really
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 9:49PM
i saw a bunch of game ads during wwe shows i think i saw the god of war lbp ad there. i haven't seen much since the recall so maybe they are holding back till tuesday.
PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Oct 26th 2008 11:33PM
All I have seen from Sony is billion commercials for Resistance 2. You know, the one with the 10 year old monk saying "we must resist" ...
Have also seen some Far Cry 2 commercials
whistlepig @ Oct 26th 2008 8:24PM
lol sony making money off of people who cant wait another few weeks for home ? pretty smart way to cash in
Evan @ Oct 27th 2008 9:00AM
Qore is an attempt to make people pay for demos and betas that should be free.
