Those who've been anxiously awaiting their chance to virtually mingle with fellow PS3 owners in Sony's much-anticipated Home, but have been unable to procure an invite to the closed beta would be well-served by checking out the November issue of Qore. The sixth edition of the "interactive magazine" will not only feature a comprehensive tour of Sony's social networking tool (given by the incomparable Veronica Belmont), but will reportedly also include an invite into the Home closed beta for both annual Qore subscribers, and one-time purchasers.
The next issue, and your best chance to get an early look at Sony's Second Life-esque service, will be coming early next month.

While it would be an interesting idea, it might not be possible on a technical level.
Getting the space would be no problem. The Home space could be hosted by an of us. I don't know if streaming custom audio is something that can be done. I'm also not sure about the ability to share pictures and video, as those have yet to be introduced in the beta.

I just thought of something.
I don't know what happens to the home space when the host plays a game. i.e. If there are four people in a room, and the host and another person begin a game, what happens to the other two people?
Also, I don't know if Sony will be freely handing out environments for social/news sites like Joystiq.

oh yea, I don't mean to be an ass. I'm just trying to point out some problems in creating a joystiq home space.
I do think its an interesting idea though, and it would definitely give me more of a reason to use Home.

Sharing audio from user to user may not be included, but it's not because streaming audio doesn't work. There is a Music kiosk in Home Central that does just that. Video and pictures are the same way. If they were part of a room, it'd be no big deal.

well, I think don't just give away those kind of spaces, but iirc, businesses can contact Sony for plans or something like that, so yah, it would pretty much up to AOL to make the Joystiq space happen

We shall see what happens, Home is over a year late now, and still doesn't offer anything that would make me jump over to it, plus with the netflix deal on Live, whats the point of using home.

So watching movies and a virtual world where you chat and meet are the same thing?

Beta invites? Seriously? Are we supposed to be excited about this? Enough with the god damn beta phase and get to release already! PS3 sales could use the boost right now.

Obviously, you haven't been in the beta. Home will not sell consoles. It is a social and advertising tool, not a killer app.

Are you serious?
The advertising is IN HOME. How do you expect to sell a console via advertising that is in Home? Anyways, the advertising in Home is for Sony games, TVs, and movies, and it is everywhere.

Having recently purchased a PS3, I went ahead and bought a single issue of Qore (the recent Halloween-themed one) to test it out. Let's just say, you're not missing much. Unless you really want to pay $3 for the sorts of videos you get for free everywhere else.

i used to get dvd magazines all the time, and fully expect qore to be on par with tv shows and internet clips. since i can easily get the info free if they had some other hook or interactivity i'd seriously consider a subscription. maybe if they gave out prizes or dlc codes for playing games through qore.

Quore is similar to the Nintendo Channel in that there are exclusive videos that high lite specific games.
In one episode of Quore, there are about four games that are focused on. All the videos are generally developer interviews. In each game section there is usually some concept art, but thats not very interesting.
The interviews are generally pretty shallow in terms of technical information, but they are interesting to watch. It seems like the purpose of the videos are to give the viewer a better sense of what a game in question is trying to present in terms of gameplay, story, mechanics, etc.
To date, I have not seen information/videos from Quore put directly onto the internet.
The other aspect of Quore is the demo/beta access; which may or may not be interesting to people.
Thats Quore in a nutshell.

Plus it would be cool if say they made a streaming video deal you go to the virtual movies and watch the movie or something like that.

There are a few minigames; bowling, pool, darts, along with arcade rip offs, and licensed classic games. It's not bad, but it will get old after a few rounds.

As a Home beta tester, I tend to agree. It feels like an advertising laden version of Second Life. If decorating virtual spaces, playing mini-games, and running around in circles sounds like fun, then Home is for you.

Yeah it's pretty safe to say by now that Home is gonna be a flop, but at least it was free and last I checked not mandatory so really how much can one complain?
I've also seen 0 commercials of LBP on any major channels so I'm expecting it to not sell very well. Congrats Sony, you've fucked up more than I thought was humanly possible.
