Weekly Webcomic Wrapup needs a logo
We were going to make this week's theme related to the recent LittleBigControversy, but in trying to create a video we realized that we lack a good logo or any sense of branding for this feature (all part of being in beta, we suppose). We're hoping there's at least one or two readers out there adept at vector art, color theory and/or typography so let's see what you can do. Please, internet, design the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup a logo. (Image Source)
Here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomic. Polling after the break; be sure to vote for your favorite!
Avoiding Controversy (Alt.) (2P Start)
A Broken Clock (Penny Arcade)
It Has Happened (Digital Unrest)
Both Ways (CAD Mini)
Every Single Day (Cross Platform)
Little Big Terrorist (Game Marks)
Lies (Angry Stick)
All Will Perish (Castle Vidcons)
First you must ... (Indoor Heroes)
Light in a Dark World (Extra Life)

Penny Arcade for truthiness.
giantenemycrab @ Oct 26th 2008 7:08PM
Damnit! I should have seen GameMarks comic before I voted. That was hilarious.
Haggard @ Oct 26th 2008 7:16PM
You vote before you've read them all?
That's a cardinal sin right there.
Will @ Oct 26th 2008 7:22PM
I definitely voted based on truthiness like two webcomics ago. Stop ripping off my ripping off Stephen Colbert.
Kyattsuai @ Oct 26th 2008 7:54PM
I was expecting the Chris Hansen line go to differently, but yeah, PA gets my vote this week.
eldee @ Oct 26th 2008 9:04PM
gamemarks should win by a wide margin. Too bad 70% of the people who read joystiq won't understand it and vote for littlebighitler :P
fwacce @ Oct 26th 2008 9:43PM
"gamemarks should win by a wide margin. Too bad 70% of the people who read joystiq won't understand it and vote for littlebighitler :P"
What are you trying to say? That joystiq readers are from Western Pennsylvania?
Trickob @ Oct 26th 2008 10:36PM
+1 to eldee
+2 to fwacce
+3 to obama
-1 to fans of mccain
Alexisonfire @ Oct 26th 2008 7:16PM
This was actually a tough week to decide. Probably because I think the whole LBP scandal is the real joke.
Haggard @ Oct 26th 2008 7:19PM
CAD hits a home run with another original joke.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 26th 2008 8:01PM
You made me laugh like x more times then CAD's.
Obie @ Oct 26th 2008 8:51PM
Since I stopped following CAD what is up with the new "style" and 3 virtually identical panels.
Is he using Manatee's to write them now? ;)
M @ Oct 27th 2008 1:30PM
too bad I hate baseball
Neebs @ Oct 26th 2008 7:23PM
CASTLE FUCKING VIDCONS
Obie @ Oct 26th 2008 7:27PM
Holy Crap, 2Pstart has been on a roll!
Now if it were a ZOMBIE nazi Hitler, it would be ok. ;)
JerJer @ Oct 26th 2008 7:28PM
cross platform had me doubled over with the "jump" "stare" "start FFFFFFF again" panel combo. haha.
Top Cat @ Oct 26th 2008 7:47PM
New low (how many is this now?) for PA - a conversation made into a comic with a vain attempt at humour through profanity.
Trickob @ Oct 26th 2008 8:55PM
umm, perhaps you haven't read much PA but that's how the comic got started. ...and most of us don't see it as a vain attempt but hey, ya can't please everybody!
bvhj @ Oct 26th 2008 7:52PM
Castle Vidcons is pretty much the only decent video game based webcomic, it's almost embarrassing how much I like it.
PSN: Erdie @ Oct 26th 2008 7:54PM
Looks like I shared the popular opinion this time around.
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 8:11PM
arabs can be decent family friendly game characters
Cole @ Oct 26th 2008 8:11PM
Voted for Penny Arcade because we all know that once the media gets a hold of some of the levels that will surely be made, then things will get blown way out of proportion
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 8:28PM
during beta i played a level where i got into a women's belly. i had to hold onto a sponge to activate a switch. once i did i think what was supposed to be ryu kicked the woman down the steps. it took me completely by surprise and i dropped the controller laughing thinking someone was trying to go too far
MNC Dover @ Oct 26th 2008 9:24PM
@J.Howlett:
Yeah, apparently that kicking women thing was big on the Shoryuken forums. I'm not too sure about how it got started, but a lot of members there had avatars of the female characters (Sakura, Chun Li, etc) getting kicked down a set of stairs after telling some male character that they are pregnant. This is usually followed by the expression, "SRK, we da' best!"
That's the internet for you.
Ethan @ Oct 26th 2008 8:37PM
I just like kirby.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Oct 26th 2008 9:11PM
Good god, CAD is especially awful.
Geist @ Oct 27th 2008 5:11AM
Is it ever not?
MNC Dover @ Oct 26th 2008 9:12PM
Oh, I'll ask my artist to throw out a logo idea. I've just got to convince him it's worth the extra work. :)
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 26th 2008 10:30PM
Yea, The comic artists from the other regular WWW comics should also give it a shot.
Mr Khan @ Oct 26th 2008 9:15PM
All webcomics need an extra dose of Falcon Punch
I don't think offensive LBP levels are going to cause a controversy, though. It certainly could, but i doubt it actually will.
BrennaCeDria @ Oct 26th 2008 9:28PM
PA got my vote this week, with LittleBigHitler coming up close second, both for truthiness.
PSN: HinchyFC @ Oct 26th 2008 9:32PM
this good? i tried to make it "comic-y". if that's a word. which it's not.

If this was LittleBigControversy week, why not link to the CAD min- whoops, I mean "silly" (because it's so original) where he angrily proclaims that hearing lines from the Qur'an won't turn him into a terrorist.
Oh wait, it's probably because he /removed/ that comic and replaced it with one only slightly less moronic, where he blames Sony's decision on Muslims for being offended by their holy text simply being used in music (which is extremely far from the truth).
Trickob @ Oct 26th 2008 11:07PM
actually...
"In a forum thread, a Muslim user commented that he noticed two passages from the Quran in a licensed music track for the stage, "Swinging Safari." He respectfully requested that they be removed, explaining that some consider the mixture of a holy book with pop music to be offensive. Sony pulled the game despite it already being on retail shelves in some areas"

Well, I thought it was because it was used in a game like that, but I wasn't aware there was a specific complaint about it being used in a song. However, the artist that made the song originally is also a devout Muslim so I assumed the song itself wasn't the issue:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/17/inside-the-lbp-delay-a-grammy-award-winning-artists-2006-song/
However, I believe my general point that Buckley is an idiot, and one that clumsily tries to cover up his idiocy.
(besides, just the wording of "Muslims don't like their holy text being put to music" should make anyone that's been to one of their services, or even lived in a predominantly Muslim city where they broadcast the call to prayer, either cringe or laugh)
Kid C @ Oct 26th 2008 10:15PM
I think its been almost a full year since we've shown up on the weekly wrapup. You guys are featuring like 12 comics these days, why no Ninja Ken? Is it because we're too 'edgy'?
http://www.theninjaken.com/comic/2008/10/22/pac-man-origins
come on, its about pac-man!
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 26th 2008 10:27PM
xD
I take back my vote and give it to that comic.
j.howlett @ Oct 26th 2008 10:48PM
i love the speed behind the car
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 26th 2008 10:25PM
You'd think Tim Buckley would eventually realise that his comic isn't funny and delay it until he got a few funny scripts.
Hell, even Scott from VGCats held back the comic for a while because he didn't think the comics were funny enough.
Anticrawl @ Oct 26th 2008 11:20PM
You do realize those "sillies" as he calls them are his own personal strips he writes anytime he has a second and were never meant to be published to viewers, but his loyal fans wanted an alternative to the main story arc that was just abstract gaming and comic related.
Everyone hates Tim Buckley for whatever reason, people just don't like success. The man is a nice guy, played Fable with him for quit a long while the day of launch and he doesn't deserve all the shit he gets.
His response to the bitter Joystiq audience is a humble sigh and stating the obvious by saying, "I guess everyone has their own opinions."
He doesn't go out of his way to assult any of you or any "competiting" comic book sites and you shouldn't either. Grow up.
Nesta @ Oct 27th 2008 2:10AM
"Everyone hates Tim Buckley for whatever reason, people just don't like success."
Or maybe, just maybe it's because he isn't funny? Yeah, I'm gonna go with that. Sure he might be a nice guy, but since when have we started judging web comics based on how "nice" someone is?
Anticrawl @ Oct 27th 2008 6:12PM
I'm quite sure Tim never asked any of you to "vote" on his site, and no one goes out of their way to insult any other comics, but they have a field day talking about how terrible the man is.

Awwww, kinda disappointed I'm the only one to diss on Soulja Boy.
Mark @ Oct 28th 2008 7:42AM
Actually I also voted for the Soulja Boy one although the 2P start was IMO the funniest.
But that Soulja Boy... The only shred of respect I have left for him is because he's a gamer as for the rest...
Some un should tell 'im he's a fuckin' pathetick loosa & grow up into a Soulja MAN! And that he should stop recording stuff on Youtube when he's drunk, which only exposes his pathetic self to the whole world.
El Verde @ Oct 27th 2008 9:12AM
2P Start made me snort.
I guess sidescroller wasn't videogamey enough this week?

I'm not particularly happy with who's winning right now. No one is particularly amazing, but the two on top don't strike em as deserving. I think Vidcons is the best, but I understand that it's a particular type of humor and if you don't like their regular stuff, this won't change your mind. Too bad, but popular opinion polls are just that.
Anyway, here are my logo ideas. It's not vector art because I'm not going to the trouble of making that unless it's going to be used.
