DS Daily: Ys or no

I love these games. Actually I'm more familiar with Falcom than Nintendo. I'm really happy that they decided to bring my one of favorite childhood game to my favorite console :)

The way you've worded it, it looks like my only options are Ys and Ys!

I guess I'll go ahead and give the DS remakes a look, see what the fuss is about.

I have heard of Ys in the past but never got the chance to play it. I look forward to new remakes of older JRPGs. No school like the old school.

Been a fan since the Master System Release. Had it on Master System, T16-CD, TurboDuo, Wii VC, and soon DS. Great game, superb music, still best music of all time.

I didn't get into Ys early enough to be familiar with it, but it certainly looks like I'll be trying it.

I remember seeing Ys ads in videogame magazines as a kid of about 8 or 9 and not understanding the anime style back then.. In my elementary school Nintendo Mario world, I didn't understand why all these Turbografx-16 games had all this art where the characters had huge eyes and pointy ears but I knew I liked it.. I definitely did not understand it back then. Fast forward almost twenty years and I'm such a massive anime fan..

All I read from the Internet is YS is a top-down RPG series (zelda-like you might say) which, unlike zelda, focuses more on "RPG stuff" like level grinding, customization, magic and of course cliche storyline ...
This series is also notable for nice anime cutscene.

I haven't played any handheld RPG with this style so I want to give it a try

I only played Izuna and Shiren the wanderer, but they are roguelikes.

I read that in this game you dont need an attack button, just press the directional button to attack. It reminds me of Nethack and somehow it makes me more interested in this game.

PS: Yes, you don't have to remind me that there is an attack button in Nethack, but most of the time it's optional. Btw, I suck at that game but strangely, I still enjoy it.

I remember Y's for the TurboGrafx 16 producing a memorable gaming moment back in the day - it was the first game I had ever played that had voice. I remember being amazed at the cut scene where a character is speaking to your character - it was almost if she was speaking directly to you, since she was facing the 'camera'. Pretty cutting edge at the time...and yes, I know I'm old school.

But other than having character voice, I can't remember the game being interesting enough to want to play remake. Seeing some of footage reminded me that it was kind of like Zelda at hyper-speed.

Not YS, not Y's. It's just Ys.

I'm a complete Ys fanboy. Discovered it on the Sega Master System and have played nearly ever version since including the import PC remakes and sequels & prequel. By most accounts, these aren't the best ports of the games but it's awesome they'll be released in English.

Huge fan since doing the TG16 SuperCD and kept it up until only a few years ago when a program I used decided it didn't like XP much so I let it go. I had the SMS copy this year for a time, gone too, and then grabbed the VC originals for fun.

Considering this adds more to do, more enemies, and remastered music + puts both stand alone games in 1 card saving you the price of one of them (Japan they sold separately) I'm so in for this.

Ys has been around as long as Legend of Zelda and Dragon Warrior, it goes WAY back but hasn't been overdone as it's only up to 6-7 versions in that time. I'd recommend this to anyone when it pops out next February.

I'd personally rather see a new Ys for DS than remakes of the first 2 games. Those of us that actually care have played these to death at some point or another. I won't be paying to play the same game yet again with updated visuals...

I've always know of the series and have played here and there when we did manage to see an NA release.

This will be my first real trek through these games since I really am not counting the crappy cell phone edition.

I only just got Ys VI on the PSP and am in the process of loving it. I've never, ever, ever played any other Ys game, and am ridiculously excited about the remakes of Ys I and II on the DS.

I've heard about it, but I never tried it. So the DS remake will be my first Ys game. =)
