Of all of the beloved video game characters that have fallen by the wayside (or been forced there by a string of subpar games) Earthworm Jim is one we'd most like to see make a comeback. C'mon, game publishers, the guy practically oozes charm, just give him a gun and some things to shoot and you're three-fourths of the way there.
For now though, we'll have to sate ourselves with the original Earthworm Jim (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) on Virtual Console, which we suppose will have to do, if only to square off once more with Bob the Killer Goldfish.

I never played this game, but is he an earthworm inside some robo-suit, or does he actually have muscualr arms and legs?

I learned something today.
1.) The number of limbs earthworm Jim has.
2.) You need different molecules that will aggregate different neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine or glutamatergic receptors at different sites. You cannot have one molecule to aggregate them as then you would have many different neurotransmitter receptors. For example, agrin regulates the clustering of acetylcholine receptors, whereas gephyrin regulates the clustering of glutamatergic receptors.
3.) I quite like the taste of halloumi and jalapenos in an omlette.

Sorry for my mistake, I mean to say:
You cannot have one molecule to aggregate them as then you would have many different neurotransmitter receptors 'at the same site'.
Thought I'd correct that before someone pointed it out.

Jack: LOL, WII HAS NO EXCLUSIVES! ALL THERE IS IS KITTY CRAP! IF YOU WANT REAL GAMES THEN BUY THE CONSOLE IT IS EXCLUSIVE FOR! LOLOOLOOLLO1010one
*good Wii exclusive game comes out*
Jack: DA-DA-DAH! THIS IS UNFAIR! ALL GAMES SHOULD BE ON ALL CONSOLES! BRING IT TO XBLA & PSN!
Well here is my advice Jack, if you want the "real" games than follow your own advice. Buy that console it is exclusive for.
Hypocrite.

To say the SNES version was outright superior is a bit much, considering the Genesis version had slightly different levels (I believe it had one additional level).

@crono
i take it you've never played gunstar heroes, herzog zwei, phantasy star IV, contra: hard corps, hell even the sonic games? all of which deliver on 16-bit graphics and sound.
i love the SNES and i love the genesis too. GOOD GAMES are GOOD GAMES regardless of what you play it on. grow up.

All genesis exclusives. What I said was (look right up there) Is that the SNES version of any multiplatform game was superior on the SNES. I never said genesis didn't have good games. List all you want, but you'll never find a game on both systems that looked/sounded/controlled better on Genesis. Period.

And yes, even those games looked and sounded like garbage compared to equivalent games on SNES. Not to say there are not good games on genesis, but the were sub par graphically and audibly. EWJ i s the easiest one to compare as the game came out on both consoles.

Crono, you're too biased aren't you? WWF Wrestlemania on the SNES was AWFUL. Sport games were better on the Genesis as well. Many shmups suffered slowdown on the SNES. The SNES had all those extra chips working for it though, even though its CPU was atrociously slow.

At least it didn't sound like a dying cat warmed over. Genesis SPU was somewhere between NES and and really bady 80's synth.
And at least SNES had graphics that approached full resolution. Genesis didn't slow down because it was only pushing half the pixels. thats why there are huge horizontal black lines in ALL genesis games.
(No I'm not really a fanboy. But this is too much fun)

Or get the PC version off of GooldOldGames. Which includes the sequel. And better graphics and sound. For $2 less.
Screw VC this week.

I LOVE Earthworm Jim. One of my all time favorites, along with EWJ2. I'd KILL for a new one done with hand drawn graphics a la Wario Land or Castle Crasher. Wii version in particular with Wiimote pointer aiming would be a dream come true!
I'll probably have to clean out the ol' Wii's fridge tonight when I get home, as I didn't get to play the Genesis version more than a few times back in the day.
But damnit – WHY is Nintendo releasing all these great VC games NOW when there are too many retail games to play as it is? These games needed to come out in the summer! I'm currently trying my best to juggle SMRPG and Secret of Mana already, in addition to Mega Man 9 (still haven't beat it, 5 bosses down!), Wario Land and Battle Fantasia.

So everyone missed the fact they ARE making an Earthworm Jim 4 for the 360?
Posted: Oct 27th 2008 12:39PM (Unverified) said
Since when is that a 'fact' I realize that there are rumors floating around, but I haven't seen nor heard any concrete evidence to support these claims.
If you have some definitive proof, please share though, because that news alone would probably make my week.

And other sites ran the story too. We're supposed to get EWJ4, a new animated series and a movie.
No platform has been announced though.

I guess Wikipedia says that TenNapel wanted to rebirth the franchise, specifically on the 360. And I had totally forgotten that Interplay had already confirmed that the Jim franchise was on board for some next-gen love...
Maybe I'm just feeling cynical today.

It's a better deal to buy the PC versions of Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 for only $6 on GOG.com.
