I just got it this weekend. Even though Ive only played the first 2 missions the game is really good so far. Great graphics, the MP is actually better than I thought it would be too. I'm gonna start playing it this week since I pretty much finished Dead Space (which is INCREDIBLE btw) this past weekend.

That Wiimusic review was a travesty. That said, I got to play a little Farcry 2 at a friends house, and I think 1up has it right. Great game, with a few problems that take alot of the luster off (like getting attacked every two seconds while in a vehicle...ugggg).

I'll play it all the way through eventually. For right now though, Fable II is my baby (My gamestop didn't have LBP for some reason... >

1. drive in your jeep
2. press c to man the mounted gun, shoot enemies
3. continue driving

rinse and repeat

Far Cry 2 definitely isn't as good as reviews suggest, just check metacritic where average user score is 6.9

Same can be said for GTAIV which got CRAZY GOOD reviws but both are still good games.

1. Drive in your jacked car
2. Kill person at point A
3. Continue driving in your jacked car

Just cause you dont care for it doesn't mean other dont. Far Cry 2 IGN Average user score 9.2

If it was all about the missions I would think this game is great. However, you are out of action for such a long time driving everywhere, the check points fights on the way are a annoying, not to mention the roving patrols and constantly running out of ammo.

This game turned the realism so far up that they've turned me off.

Yeah, essentially, every game is repetitive.

In Gears of War, you run, take cover, shoot, run some more. In Resident Evil 4 (and 5, no doubt), you just shoot enemies, smash crates with a knife, and quick time events. In Halo you just run around shooting stuff up or ride around shooting stuff up or jump around shooting stuff up.

The same goes for fighting games, strategy games, etc...

The important part is whether or not the game FEELS repetitive. And that will vary from player to player.

2. Play game
3. Finish game
4. Exit game

Since every game fits this template, every game is repetitive, ergo, every game sucks.

Am I doin' it right?

You should really start re-thinking how you approache the game... Just because theres a road doesnt mean you have to use it...

Try getting out of your jeep before the checkpoint and mounting a sneak attack.. then steal their jeep..

Its much more satisfying...

Also, you can try using the rivers (less security checkpoints)

Getting to the objective isnt supposed to be a boring task, its part of the fun

You are clearly not playing the game properly. Due to the vast country side this is one of the only games where you can truly put some tactical awareness into play. For example, on the airport hit, instead of driving your car in, guns blazing, how about sneaking up on the sniper post? Then stealing his weapon to pick off the surrounding guards. And if you feel like it, you can hit the gas tank and cause a brush fire that surrounds the hanger so the guy doesn't escape while you make your way there for the kill. Rinse and repeat gameplay my ass. This is one of the rare games that I have played where the more thought I put into my plan of attack, the more satisfied I am with the results. I love the Rainbow Six Vegas games, but their feigned tactical approaches are weak compared to the options this game allows. Maybe you should try playing it again (and thinking a bit this time).

Gokk is actually correct. I've played a lot of excellent games, and while the combat in this one is really quite good (and the tactical, planned approach is refreshing) the fact is that the game is incredibly repetetive in that you spend at least 10-12 hours of the game driving through identical countryside, stopping every now and then to shoot another identical jeep patrol, or being forced to fight your way through another identical outpost before continuing.

The missions are excellent (the dogon village especially sticking with me), but the story is pretty much non-existant. You don't care about the characters, you don't ever get any real explanation as to why you have to go take out this base or go collect that.

"You're not playing the game right" is not an excuse for bad game design choices. What, am I supposed to play it in the frame of mind that I enjoy the shitty driving sections?

And you're all really misrepresenting Gokk. He's complaining about the unnecessary repetition of bumping into enemy jeep patrols, going to your machine gun, killing them and continuing on your way, only to run into another one a minute later when all you want to do is reach your destination.

He's obviously not saying anything at all like what you're all parodying.

I don't think half of you guys who have replied thus far have actually played this game..

I enjoyed FarCry2, without a doubt. but it is VERY repetetive. There are only three missions. Every other mission is almost exactly the same as one you have already done, they just change the location slightly. They even re-use the voice acting dialog for the mission briefings. The buddy system is about the only thing that adds any kind of variety, because it gives you an alternative option to handling a mission, which will always have the same results: Buddy sends you on a side mission, you grab item X, meet buddy to deliver it, complete original mission while buddy does something unseen, buddy gets into firefight and you have to rescue him. EVERY buddy mission follows that formula.

Having said all of that, I definitely think FarCry 2 is a good game, and worth the price of admission- but it's not a 9/10, and it's certainly not a 10/10. I'd put it squarely in the 7-8 range. Above average, but nothing spectacular. Anybody who claims this game is extremely diverse is either talking about the trees in the game, or they've never actually played it.

The thing with the Jeeps is that the terrain is so huge, that it's not very plausible that you'd run everywhere. Because of this, you have to take a jeep, and in the jeep, you get attacked every two seconds. Then your damn guns jam, and you need to get new ones, but you can't since you are in the middle of nowhere. So you take the guns from the enemies, and those jam, despite having JUST worked for the enemy. Then you get annoyed as hell, and...well...whatever

The game is on par with Farcry, I don't know what else can be said. The graphics have gotten prettier (not Crysis level, but pretty) and the sound is greatly improved, but it's still A to B then back to A wash, rinse, repeat, etc. Is that a bad thing? Well, no, not necessarily, this isn't an RPG after all, so you shouldn't be expecting that type of depth or variety. It's easily more tactical than a game like Halo or COD4, and less linear, but it's nowhere near the original Rainbow Six games (someone mentioned Rainbow Six. My fellow non-children will probably remember when Rainbow Six involved planning an attack on a map, then executing it).

Oh and save yourself the 10 bucks...buy it for PC if your PC can handle it. The multiplayer is like GTA 4's multiplayer...it's fun for about five minutes, then it gets old (does anyone still play?)

I was so pissed when I lost my first buddy. He was wounded during an assault and I had no syrettes left.So I rushed across the map to find a medpack and by the time I got back, he wasn't there anymore and was declared "missing".

I cried... :'(

R.I.P. My Friend.

PS: In all seriousness they should either have a chance of surviving(crawling back to the safehouse?) when left on their own or you should be able to carry them on your back.

PS2: You know what else sucks? There are no safezones aside from two freaking cities and even Cock-Fights(the starting area) is filled with enemies as soon as you finish the tutorial. And they respawn every 60 seconds...and you're always running out of ammo...

It's just the endless guard posts, no that impressive fire, hearing the engine rev sound and having enemies crash into all teh goddamn time, arms dealers driving in circles and all that makes me dislike the game. And so much for the huge enviroments you are free to roam when 80% of the map is mountains you can't get into and rest if road with 10m of jungle on sides.

Jack, people still appreciate games, these people are just morons. Fable II could be called a repetitive game, back tracking through towns, kill citizens, get sent on community quest, kill bandits, repeat

Any game is repetitive in some sense, RPGs, FPSs, RTSs, TPSs, platformers, adventure games, hack'n'slash games
they all consist of "encounter enemy, kill enemy, either gain exp or not, rinse, repeat"
unless you're playing brain age or something like that

ROFLCOPTER. Halo? Huh. Well at least I had FUN playing it, I didnt need to check the freaking map every 2 seconds(GPS in the car is worthless) A mini-map would helped a lot, BUT NOOOOOOOOO that isnt ''immersive'' enough. Fast travel? F' no. You are gonna drive to the other side of the map like it or not=IMMERSION COMMING OUT OF MY BUTT OMG!

''The extensive artistic research combined with the next-gen engine will allow you to explore over 50Km2 of seamlessly rendered African landscape. ''
False advertising(Not mentioning that Far Cry 2 has nothing to do with Far Cry 1). Whats the point of the 50km2 if 51% of the land is mountains(That you cant access) and the rest is samey looking roads copy-pasted 50 times?

''No game has ever provided such freedom of movement!''
Um...pretty much every sandbox game?

I don't understand how y'all are running out of ammo so often. You realize that every enemy hangout spot has ammo lying around, right? Every single one of. The safehouses don't, but they usually only have two guys that are guarding it until you unlock it (by killing the two guys).

So far, I've somehow managed to put 12 hours into this game already, and I'm only at 18% completion. I basically went around and unlocked all of the safe houses in the North part.

I've also been stopping for diamonds everytime I see that green dot start flashing, but then again, I'm one of those people that was obsessed with getting all 500 orbs in Crackdown.

yeah, i have no idea what people are bitching about regarding ammo.. I have never run out of ammo in this game. Learn2Aim imo :P

In all honesty this game's ammo/item system is dumbed down the the point of lunacy. Ammo is generic, all you have to do is walk over a gun and you get ammo, regardless of what type of gun it is. The only stipulation that I could see was sidearm ammo went to your sidearm, secondary weapon went to your secondary weapon. Pretty strange that an AK47 round fits in my 50cal sniper rifle.

Note: I'm not a big fan of the ammo/item system they use in this game. I guess i'm more of a fan of STALKER's micromanagement system, where you've gotta read the box and make sure you have the right ammo. I also hate how there is absolutely no fucking way to tell what gun you have in your hands. NONE. if I pick up a gun off of an enemy and decide "hey i like this, i'm gonna go buy it from the weapon store", I have no idea what to buy because the game doesn't fucking tell me what I have in my hands. So annoying.
