The game is very green and brown.

Having said that, I like driving around looking for diamonds. It's like looking for pigeons in GTA 4, but they're diamonds instead of pigeons. And there's homing beacons to help find the diamonds.

I'd rather play a game with a story and linear missions. Maybe I am old school but I find the ability to do almost anything rather boring.

10/10 and 9/10 scores are really too high for Farcry 2. 7/10 is really about right. If Farcry can get a 9/10 for what it does then Resistance2 should get an automatic 10 without even playing the game. I fully expect a lot of 7 and 8s for Resistance2 just because.

I got the game via Gamefly on Saturday, and I'm glad that I gave the game more time. At first, I was really dissapointed, mainly because I tried to run and gun my way through the game. DO NOT DO THIS!!

After trying a new approach, involving scouting out guard posts and using diversions to direct attention away, I was able to beat missions I wasn't able to earlier.

I'd give it around a 9/10 for me. Not perfect by any means, but it's one of the most realistic environments I've ever seen in a game, and like what Yahtzee said, immersion can make up for a lot of flaws in a game.

I know im gonna sound like a broken record here, but far Cry 2 does not deliver what i was expecting...it is a crap port to PC.
There are alot of issues with the combat and how unrealistic it is. Alot of small inconsiderations which probably could've taken a day to fix by ubisoft.
Way too much explorng. If it takes 10 minutes to go to the mission point its taking too long...
80% of the game is staring at map and trying to look at road at the same time.

I feel that the game is actually really well ported - it runs so smooth on older computers and looks really good for it. Of course, its highest setting are nowhere near as good looking as those on Crysis, but considering my PC has to run Crysis on low (looks awful) but can do FC2 on medium/high with 2xAA (looks great)..

I'd say it's a good port for the most part, but I think the way they handled saves is lazy. They should have either left out quicksave completely, or taken out the save points in the safehouses/etc. Adding in quicksave to the PC version is obviously an attempt to cater to the PC crowd, but it feels tacked on..

I got FC2 when it came out and im about 50% through the campaign. The graphics are beautiful, the multiplayer is actually pretty good, and the map editor kicks ass. The fire is awesome, and the environments can be beautiful. It does get a bit repetitive during the story, but the variation with the multiple times, weapons, and tactics you can use to your advantage make up for any repetition. My only major gripes are that you have to drive around the giant map a bit too much, you can only have one mission at a time, having to get the malaria medicine can get a bit annoying especially because the missions to get the malaria usually are just taking papers to someone, and you can get a little too immersed in the game and forget to save so you wind up having to repeat some stuff. Overall i think the game is a must buy, and it is a very unique take on the first person shooter genre. I'd give it a 9.3/10

If you want a survival-style shooter, this is it. Even the multiplayer is geared around survival with the self-heal, respawn delay, and team-heal mechanics. Single player is a blast, I enjoy picking off the guard posts every time, or hauling through in a car by the seat of my pants, or sneaking up and taking them out...you really get as much variety out of this game as you can create yourself.

The open world FPS dream has been realized, my friends.

Man my mailbox is filling up with all your replies :> I'll try to be short here.

hfj: I loved stalker, mainly because of the setting. I was expecting Far Cry 2 to be much more open, instead the goddamn map is FILLED with mountains you cannot cross. Just check the map. Definitely not wishing it to be more linear.

fenix & co: You definitely can and should do more than drive in jeep shooting your gun, if you don't you're killing the potential of good game. Just a bit blunt example about how I felt the game to be repetitive.

Don't really post here but I'm guessing jack is some kind of a troll?

I don't recall calling fc2 a bad game, it just was a letdown for me.

I was disappointed in Far Cry 2. It just felt slow to me. But,m I may have to get further in before it gets better.

Ive played this game on PC for the last 4 hours now and one thing ive noticed is that the accuracy when shooting enemies is waaaaaaaay off. I have now countless times, using the jeep mounted gun, shot point blank at an enemy and he just stands there while the bullets go right through him.
very dissapointing when they are pushing reality so much.

otherwise, very enjoyable so far.

Playing FC2 its about a 7 IMO the limited carry system is quite annoying as I can not carry an assault rifle AND a shotgun at the same time... that right there annoys me to no end and drops it a point there are some other minor things it could have(kick?,simple grappling hook for climbing buildings and rocks) but all in all its a solid adventure leaning FPS game.

And this is coming from a sht talking game nazi who believes the average for the review industry is a 7 not a 5 and that gaming is so rushed and subdued now adays a 8 is a rare score to hit and anything above a 7 is icing for the publishers and a cake of lies for the masses....

Wow, I guess I'm getting this game then. I've never been attracted to the Far Cry series, so I guess this will be my first FC.

Argh, now I have trouble deciding which games should I buy this holiday season. Fallout 3, GoW2, CoD:World at War or this. I'm gonna have to save more cash than usual.

...Or just take the easy route and choose this as my second Christmas present.

I wrote an in-depth review over yonder:

Want the tl;dr? If you've got the hardware, and like the sound of GTA in the African plains, buy it.

I've only played a few missions but I'm not caring for it so much. The graphics don't seem as great as they could be, it's one of those console games that are just yearning for the ultra high resolution and anti aliasing PCs can provide. As for the regular gameplay it seems a little slow to me, ive only killed about 5 people by now, I hope and assume it will get better.

I find it odd that the game is getting such universally good reviews. While I am thoroughly enjoying the game, I can see it's failings and a lot of people I've talked to aren't enjoying it nearly as much.

" so it's fitting to summarize it as...well, GTA: Mogadishu."

A more inaccurate statement has never been made about this game. It plays just like a Bethesda RPG minus the stat leveling.
