Saints Row 3 already in development, 'new direction' planned
40
Saints Row 2 Associate Producer Dan Sutton reveals that Volition is already at work on another sequel in the urban sandbox series. Speaking with Play.tm, Sutton states that the recently released SR2 ties up loose ends from the original game and that SR3 will go in a "new direction."
Considering that Saints Row 2 stands apart from Grand Theft Auto IV in how over-the-top it is, we certainly hope Saints Row's new direction isn't about toning down the series.

Maybe they will exploit black pop culture in Saints Row 3?

lol...Saints Row 2 tied up most of the loose ends in the game...not all...
if you play by just completeing the missions you normally see, you will end the game as if there was not going to be a sequal. Alittle adventuring in the police station (4th floor, 3 recordings plus a new mission) in the game shows you the ending where you get payback to the original leader of the saints as well as get backstabbed by another member of the saints from the first game. With that ending there has to be another game. The orginal leader of the saints had a good reason for blowing your character up at the end of SR. Truely i believe his words will be the saints new direction in SR3.

maybe that's why they're going in a new direction, maybe we'll be playing as a cop who has to tear down the Saints

Exactly what I was going to point out. The story with Juilias from the end of the original game was tied up..
But that was one of the few problems I have with the game, they could have done far more with the Juilias, instead of making out the main character to be nothing more than a psychopath. One of the great points about GTA IV was how human Niko was, you wanted him to win. With SR2, I felt the main characters choice was completely wrong, and I couldn't agree with anything he was doing during that mission.
And as you said, although Juilias is cleared up there are still loose ends, it creates an even bigger plot point with Dex, although I could see that being finished off with DLC rather than a whole new game where we have to win back Stilwater again.

yeah...I actually live in Champaign where Volition is based and I'm going in to get paid for playtesting a game for them tomorrow. I think it may be SR3 cause they keep asking me if I have played Saints Row 1 or 2.

Hopefully it will involve brutal super powered cops seeking to oppress the masses in a future police state.

Honestly after playing Saints Row 2 as much as I have I can't wait for another installment. I have honestly had more fun playing SR2 than I did playing GTA4. GTA4's production values are obviously higher, but the humor and the elusive "fun factor" are just more fleshed out in SR2. Both great games, but I finished GTA4 and was almost happy to stop playing it. I am screwing around more in SR2 to keep from beating it and (possibly) having nothing left to do.
Bring on SR3!

Lord,
I am totally with you on everything you said. I have had so much more fun playing Saints 2, it is just totally unrestrained in every way, unlimited fun. Not to mention it is really funny. I really hope Volition doesn't try something too different, they just need to keep ramping up the ridiculous and pumping out the crazy!!

Feel free to go ahead and beat it. I did and I still have fun jumping co-op into other people's games and helping them through missions. Even missions I played the day before.
I feel SR2 was the answer to everyone who was hoping GTA4 would be like San Andreas but with more.
Whatever "new direction" they are thinking of I hope it's just a new location or something like that.
I only had 3 complaints about SR2:
1 a little glitchy.
2 no lockon
3 too few story missions

I'm glad to hear that, I loved the first one and the second one. But there just felt like some improvements that still could be made. For one it seemed like SR2 actually toned the graphics and customization down. But the gameplay was just as solid as the first. I'm really excited to hear it, they might not be furthering the perception of games as art but they are damn fun

For me GTA 4 was like a chore. the missions mostly made me feel like doing homework or something Everymoment i spent in sR2 was actually fun. everything handled and did exactly what it was supposed to do. and CRUISE CONTROL was a brilliant idea!!! in GTA the cars handled like boats. everything resulted into some sort of slide or outrageous drift

Look with your eyes. The picture up the top of the page looks like as if SR3 is going to be in the 1800's.
It's not going to be all these futuristic cops and UFO's, it's going to be back in the olden days with the old muscles and mustangs.
With the old guns which need to be cleaned out and more gunpowder into the barrel, shooting 1 bullet then take along time to reload.

I hate to say this , but there weren't any fast moving cars in the 1800's, haha! You want muscle? 1960 to 1973.The first vehicle to move under its own power for which there is a record was designed by Nicholas Joseph Cugnot and constructed by M. Brezin in 1769. Lords and Ladies?! Are you serious?! What are you gonna steal, a horse and buggy, a steam powered buggy that drives a whole five miles per hour? I'm guessing it will stay modern times, more realistic (hopefully not like gtaIV) and possibly multiple cities (watch this turn into a rumor over night!).

saint row 3 should be called the reunion and all the gangs come back Brotherhood allys with the Los Carnales, the Sons of Samedi and the Vice Kings, the Ronin and Ultor, Saints and the West Side Rollerz. plus you should be able to customize boats, planes, and helicopters and choose were your hideout is and you should be able to choose what the inside and outside of your hideout looks like

I couldn't agree more. The first time I slid at 2miles per hour I knew it was gonna be more serious than fun (are the roads coverd in ice?!). Good story, cool cars, but not being able to modify my ride was very dissapointing. I think the main things that kept me playing were Brucie because he was funny, dating, the realistic shooting and the mini-games, I actually got bored with the missions after a few nights. I played San Andreas instead for awhile until I got SR2...I still haven't stopped playing it, and I still haven't finished GTAIV...where is the next Crackdown?! I love that game!!!...but not as much as Saints
