$99 60GB HDD Live pack available next week
41
The 60GB HDD Live pack includes a 60GB hard drive, a 3 month subscription to Xbox Live, a wired headset and ethernet cable all for $99. Quite the steep price, but it works in terms of the console pricing between an Xbox 360 Arcade and Xbox 360 Pro. But we're not justifying the price and 100% agree that it's still way expensive.
[Thanks, therza2169]

not to beat a dead horse but I upgraded my PS3 hdd to 250 GB for $20.00 less. They need to reduce the cost of entry or let people use any external HDD.

Well the 20GB HDD is normally 13GB accessible so will the 60GB be 59.5GB or less? Either way its too overpriced with a bundle of crap everyone already has already. If it was 12+ card plus the HDD then I would of sprung for it.

My 120gb hd is 107gb accessible or so. So, I'm guessing it's about 47gb accessible or so for the 60gb.

You're close-the 60 gig has about 48 gig available when new.

Considering that the 20GB was that price for the HDD alone I'd consider it a deal.

I was waiting for this deal and then bought a 120 GB HDD on ebay for $100 with a transfer cable. My concern for current 20 GB owners is where is the transfer cable if they need it and are existing cables that can be had on ebay for $30 - $40 going to work. I have heard rumors that it only works with the 120 GB HD. Additionally I don't need the headset b/c I already have it nor do I need the cable and my live subscription is good for a year. On the other hand this is a somewhat good deal for Arcade owners looking for bigger drives but isn't MS going to start a program where you can buy a HDD for $20-$30 if you own the Arcade system?

I need a new HDD so I may pick this one up, if I can transfer my stuff over.. The 20GB HDDs sell for about $30 on eBay so really you could get the 60GB for about $70ish.

Considering the 20GB HDD is 80 bones, I think this price is excellent. Perfect timing for me, as well. I just got my HDD from the Storage Upgrade service, it's dead. They said it would be three weeks before I get the replacement in the mail, so unless I get this 60GB package, I won't be on the NXE. I won't even be able to get the 20 track RB2 pack.

No transfer cable? That makes no sense, how about if you want to upgrade from a 20GB, how are you going to transfer your stuff? So you buy the hard drive and then spend another couple of weeks waiting for a transfer cable from Microsoft. Seems stupid.

MS sent me a transfer cable in three days. And then another one two days later.

Huh? 3 months XBL is $30?!
If you look at 60 a year, I don't even remember what I pay, that works out to $5 a month, or $15 for 3 months.
That does make a difference - it's not huge, but still. And if you factor in that not many people need a headset or ethernet cable, it's really not that GREAT of a deal

M$ wants us to fill a hard drive with all the movies, games and other crap that can shill, so why not come out with a kit with a drive-less case and a format disc so I can get whatever size I want?
I know they are concerned about piracy and cheating and whatnot, but they could use a proprietary format and encryption to allow this to happen. Other companies have somehow figured this one out.
Than they can make a mint on us buying games and movies. Personally, if I could have a 500 GB hard drive in my 360, and could have downloaded Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise directly to the drive from M$ and play it without that GD HD spinning up like a vietnam era Huey and annoying my neighbors, I would be happy as a clam. And guess what.... no disc for me to take to Gamestop when I am done romancing Buzzlegums! C'mon M$, get this one right for a change.

thats not completely true. they also want to make sure that everyone has a fast enough drive. they need to have a certain sustained transfer rate / random access time so the developers were able to account for the cache not studdering gameplay.
other than that, i still agree its too expensive. they are making great profits on the service and content, but the hardware should be thrown at us for miniscule amounts to get us started.
i say start a Xbox 360 Certified Hard Drive logo for hard drive manufacturers and be done with it. It will get more sales for the HDD manufacturers and provide advertising. Microsoft can gain profits from that, and then everyone will have easy access to large amounts of storage.
Once we have this, then the size of DVD9 is completely irrelevant and we can store our entire game collection on one drive.
what do you guys think?

I'd love to upgrade my 360 drive, however, I'm just too spolied. 100 dollars for a hard drive, it should be at least 750gb what the 360 needs is an adapter that will allow someone to connect a normal laptop or desktop hardrive to the 360.

$100 buys you a 250gig 2.5" SATA drive. There are no 750gig 2.5" drives, as they currently top out at 320, and theres a 500 on the way.

With the release of the 120GB HDD and XBOX360 Elite, Microsoft offered free one-use transfer cables via their website. I'm not sure if this offer still exists, but it wouldn't hurt to look.As for this deal, $99 isn't bad for people duped into purchasing the Arcade SKU, considering this covers the HDD and headset the Arcade lacks while giving a taste of LIVE.

Well when my 360 Pro broke out of warranty I bought an arcade system. I paid 200 for a new console instead of 100 for repairs. I got a controller, memory card, arcade games, and a new warranty for 100 more. Ya know.
So then I sold my old 64mb card on craigslist for 20. Now im selling my old broken xbox too for about 40 bucks. So basically im now getting all of that crap for 40 bucks (controller, mem, and arcade games).
Moral of the story: When you upgrade SELL YOUR OLD STUFF. SELL THAT OLD 20GB HARD DRIVE TO SOMEONE. SELL THAT NEW HEADSET TO SOMEONE. SELL THAT 3 MONTH TO SOMEONE. SELL THE ETHERNET CABLE TO SOMEONE. Just knock a few bucks off MSRP and bam someone will buy it. Pay yourself back...

I have a CC $15 off $100 coupon, and if the transfer cable is so easy to get I might settle for this. Three more months is about $10, so once the other stuff is tossed into the spare-parts pile the drive will be $75.
Plus the tax, and the candy bar(s) to reach $100 before tax...

You can use the transfer cable to transfer from a 20gb to a 60gb. It works. It just won't let you transfer a larger drive (60gb) to a smaller drive (20gb), which makes sense.

I'm not trying to doubt you but have you done this personally? The reason I'm asking is that on the xbox.com website it says that you can transfer from 20 to 20 and from 20 to 100 but does not say from 20 to 60. In addition to this there are people online who have tried it and say that the transfer doesn't work.
