CheapAssGamer posted last week that the "Gun Metal Gray" MGS4 PS3 bundle, previously only available through Konami for $600 (plus shipping charges), was now available to pre-order from Amazon.com for $450. We were going to post it at the time, but we got distracted by some Mei Ling fan fiction, which is all for the best now, considering Amazon has reduced the price of the bundle to $400.
The bundle will release on Nov. 4 and patience will reward those consumers who waited a half year with a $200+ savings on the 40GB PS3 package.

Too bad that baby doesn't have BC compatability (which is why I didn't but it in the first place)
Not to mention that sweet deal that was going on at walmart where you could get the 80GB MGS4 bundle and get a 100$ gift card! No one in their right mind could pass that offer up.

Great deal for someone wanting a custom PS3 & MGS 4. People need to give up the BC gripe. It's gone for good. You can get a PS2 for dirt cheap if its that important or find a 20, 60 or 80 GB version.

Well, there's still the occasional rumour floating around that Sony intend to implement fully software based BC.
I mean, it's very unlikely, but you never know.
Anyways, I have a Eu 60GB (the one with part hardware, part software BC), with around 80% PS2 BC. It's an okay substitute, but I'd still personally recomend playing PS2 games on a PS2 instead, cos you never know if some weird glitch is gonna pop up and ruin your game.

i say it's to bad that BC is gone but it is. if you want to play ps2 games get a ps2. if you want a ps3 there is probably a sku for you out there. the only people who should really complain are those with an extensive ps2 collection. in that case you just need to find room

Above all other things I believe this is the reason Sony took b/c out of the PS3. Phase one at least. They make money on each PS2 sold, so why not encourage people to buy both? Especially considering you can buy a PS3 with a larger HDD and a PS2 for less money than most people spent on the 60GB model back in 06/07.
Phase two of their plan would be to announce full software b/c, including PS2 games being available on PSN, after PS2 sales have slowed to a meaningless point. For most core gamers the PS2 is a mecca of great gaming, loaded with a ridiculous breadth of great content. Now imagine all that being accessible at budget prices from the comfort of your home. Is that not totally win material?

and I do believe that most of those people bought PS3's at launch since, if they have that many games, it only makes sense... and the launch PS3's all had BC.

I don't think the software-only PS2 emulator is very far off for the PS3, just look at some of the computer-based ones out there.

I would love to see PS3 greatest hits and classics available for purchase over the PSN. I have an original fully BC 60 GB PS3 with all the card readers and in all honesty I hardly play my PS2 games. I have a very extensive catalog of great PS2 games - probably 40 or more games in total and about 10-15 that I would consider Incredible titles. Out of all that gaming goodness I have maybe 5-6 that I have actually played and 2 of them Persona FES & Yakuza 2 are newer releases. I plan on purchasing eternal poison, chain of memories & SMT Persona 4 as well. PS2 is still coming out with some awesome and very underrated titles IMO. Funny thing is it has better new releases RPG's than the PS3. Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice, Folklore & presumably Valkyria & White Knight Chronicles will be the top tier exclusive PS3 RPG's. We have others like Enchanted Arms & Eternal Sonata that probably aren't as good.

Well, YAY FALLOUT 3. Because the discussions there are so screwed up I had to move it to the PS3 bundle story. :D

Is that bundle backwards compatible, or did Sony decide that was too damn convenient? I'm not (just) being sarcastic, I would really appreciate it if someone would tell me.

It's the crappy Japanese bundle. All you get is a color scheme, with no BC. The US MGS4 bundle had an 80GB with partial (80%) BC.
Really ironic about that Japanese bundle, considering that a MGS Playstation can't play MGS2 or 3.

With no BC, I'm not paying over $299 for a PS3. Even if it is gun metal gray. I don't care to play MGS4. Just Uncharted and Heavy Rain when it is released.
With Sony Blu-Ray players now hitting the sub-$300 price point, and likely even cheaper for christmas, the odds of me getting a PS3 are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Still no BC huh sony?
Dumbassess. The ps2 was only the most successful system last gen...
I won't pay more than $100 for a ps3 and only when FFXIII Versus is available at the same time.

I laugh at the MGS4 PS3.....as I stare at my original model launch PS3 with full PS2 backwards compatibility, a card reader, and 4 USB Slots.

They were only for sale at the Konami site. Now, they are on a slew of sites for the special sale price. My guess is that Konami had some left over consoles they sold at bulk prices. I really want to pick one up but I can't justify another PS3 purchase.

Well, it looks like the ship date for these is getting pushed further and further out. Mine was supposed to ship on the 6th, now Amazon is saying the estimated ship date is the 12th. Does anyone know what the delay might be?
