By last month, I assume you mean last week?

It's because a new SKU with double the HDD was releasing the next week (ie. this week) for the same price. Of course sales would be low; most prospective buyers would naturally hold off a week to get a better product for the same price.

Factor in LBP (plus a LBP bundle), GTA4, and GT5:P Spec 3 releasing for the PS3 in the same week, and I'm sure we'll find that this week's PS3 Japanese sales are far better than last weeks.

This game...*sigh*

I went in to *finally* check on my pre-order today and they told me they weren't getting it until tomorrow, so I just got fed up and took my $5 and had them put it towards Fallout. It sucks how this game went from a day-one buy for me to a "when I get around to it (aka. some time between the holiday rush and RE5) buy".

The upside is that there'll be a lot more solid user-generated content by the time I feel like picking this up again.

Ok seriously, this is getting a tad ridiculous. Can Sony, or someone not provide some help to these console devs in setting up their dedicated servers, since they obviously have no idea what they're doing themselves?

I mean, FFS, is it just the accepted norm now that whenever a semi-bigname game drops with dedicated servers that we won't be able to play online for the first week.

I swear to all that is holy, if Gears 2 is unplayable online the first week I'm just going to have to build my own chainsaw-gun and play Gears 2 in real life. It shouldn't have a problem, since it's P2P, but if it does...

I am really starting to wonder if companies go into this knowing that there will be the most people online in week 1, and knowing that their servers can't handle it, but decide to save the cash rather than upgrading since after the first week the number of people hitting it will be within a range they can handle, and they don't want to drop the extra cash just for the extra week of up-time.

People seem to be lashing out about these broken online releases way too little, and they feel like they can get away with it to save some extra money.

I'd been looking forward to LBP for months. There hasn't been a PS3 exclusive I've wanted since MGS, so my PS3 has been a glorified Blu Ray player for the last few months. This game is supposed to be the killer app for this system, and while the offline is a lot of fun, the meat is supposed to be in the multiplayer and custom levels. Of course, I wouldn't actually know...because I've only read stories about it.

I haven't been able to connect to the servers ONCE since I got this game on Saturday. It's piss poor performance and I can't believe people put up with this stuff. If this was a 360 game, people would be on FIRE. I'm pretty mad because I can't even use half the game I paid for yet. This is BEYOND lame.

I never understood this phenomenon. You are angry because people aren't doing anything and are putting up with it, yet... what do you want people to do? What are YOU doing?

I'm sure they'll make up for the server outage by giving everyone a free in-game LPB dol...err, action figure.

@Zuburi,

I'm not angry because people aren't "doing anything", I'm angry because the game is broken and there are at least a half dozen people right here in this thread making all sorts of excuses for it. That's what I don't get. Why defend what's happening right now?

What does it matter if WOW had a bad launch week or if this same thing happens to all Sony online games when they launch? All that says to me is they were even dumber than I already think they are because they haven't learned from a bunch of other bad examples.

I was enticed by great reviews to rush out and spend 60 bucks for LBP only to find out it's STILL f'ing broken. Is that a huge deal as far as life on this earth goes? Nah...I've got other games to play and stuff, but as a gamer, I could have spent that 60 bucks on any number of awesome holiday titles that AREN'T broken right out of the gate and waited for them to patch this one up before I bought it.

Dude, calm down. You're making it sound like the game is unplayable. There's still the 50 or so offline levels to play through. Do you actually need to start playing the user created stuff just yet?

And you can also start making your own level, if you like. When the servers come back online (which really shouldn't take long) maybe you'll even have one ready to upload.

Anyway, you talk about not being able to connect to the servers since Saturday. But the servers didn't go up until yesterday, so it's only been a problem for one day, not half a week like you make it sound.

@Hyams

Your post is a perfect example of exactly what I'm talking about. I don't get how you can brush something like this off. Maybe you didn't care about the online stuff, so it's not a big deal to you, but the people who did care about it have a right to be upset about this.

I don't know about you, but I bought this game specifically because of the user created stuff. Sure, I like a good platformer as much as the next guy, but without the online component, that's all this is. Just another platformer. The real meat of this game for me is seeing what experiences all the talented creators out there can put together, and playing those. That's what was going to set this game apart for me. I heard about so many awesome levels in the beta, and I couldn't wait to play them. That's the only reason I rushed out to buy this as soon as I heard my local Gamestop finally had copies in. It wasn't because I couldn't wait to play the "Wedding" campaign level over and over again, trying to find all the bits and pieces I missed the first 3 times through. ;-)

You say the servers "didn't come up until yesterday" like it's something we should have expected? This game was supposed to ship Tuesday the 21st of October. That means their servers should have been ready to go live from that day forward. Recalling the game because of that song shouldn't factor into it at all. In fact, all the recall meant is that they had a whole free week to get their stupid servers ready. There's no excuse for them being broken 6 full days later!

Oh noes, you're gonna have to wait another day before you can play the online portion of the game.

I Don't Own It At All Yet.

Kindly stop your bitching. You've got it great compared to me. I've gotta wait another week plus before it releases in England.

have you PLAYED the PS3 version of Fallout 3 for yourself, or are you basing your opinion of it off of what you read on the internet?

see, i've been PLAYING the PS3 version of Fallout 3 since last Thursday, and it's a fantastic game.

the visuals are excellent (i'm playing on a 40" 720p Samsung), the controls, story, atmosphere, i can't complain about the game.

my only issue with the game is that it will often pause whenever someone on your PSN leaves you a message. i found it odd, since it's the ONLY game i've played on my PS3 that has that problem.

other than that, Fallout 3 is an amazing game, and worth owning on the PS3 just as much as the 360 version.

stop basing your opinion of things off of other people's. it pays to experience these types of things for YOURSELF before having a kneejerk reaction based off of some shmoe on the internet. hell, even ME. just play the damn game for yourself, and be your own judge.

@Hyams

Now your comments make sense to me. It's not that you are dealing with the same issues we are and you're not bothered by it (that would be strange to me).

You don't have the game, you're still waiting for it....so this doesn't apply to you at all. I can imagine posting the same thing last week to a bunch of people who somehow scored one of the recalled copies.

Here's hoping the title is worth your wait, and that when you finally get it...it's functioning properly. That wasn't the case for me or anyone else who bought it this weekend and had to deal with the servers being down for 4 days....but maybe you'll have better luck than we did.
