Hoping to make the rounds this week and get the word out about the casual concoction that is Wii Music, Shigeru Miyamoto just couldn't escape questions about where all the "real" games are. Speaking to GameDaily, the legendary game designer replied (and we're paraphrasing here – maybe even a little too much): "They're coming, so can you please stop asking?"
Okay, okay. What he specifically and actually said was that, "...for 30 years now I've been making games and for the vast majority of time I've been making the type of games that the loyal Nintendo fans enjoy." Yes, we're aware. Please continue. Where's the fanbait? Oh, here it is: "Those are the types of games that my career is based on and we're going to continue to make those types of games. In fact, we have many of those types of games in development right now."
Don't let our glib take on this ... core crisis color your opinion of Mr. Miyamoto. He's an outstanding person and incredibly nice. Sure, he's a little exasperated about the situation, but, like all loyal Nintendo fans, that's to be expected at this point.

I've had a Wii since day one and kinda feel ripped off. The games stink. I mean there are just a handful of great games. The rest are like a cheap gumball machine toy. Not to mention the lack of a real accurate Wiimote. The duck hunt gun from almost 25 years ago was more accurate than this Wiimote. This system belongs in the nursing homes.

I'm more of a gamer than a fanboy. So as much as I'd like a new core game from Nintendo, it's not like I don't have Dead Space, Red Alert 3, Sonic Chronicles, Web of Shadows, and Endwar to keep me occupied this week alone. The are plenty of games I want to play that aren't Nintendo. Nintendo's not in a hurry because they don't need to pander to us. Hey, if they want to take their time, I won't stop them, and I'll be the first one in line for the new Zelda. I be grateful for the games I get, when I get them, because I know that technically speaking, Nintendo is under no obligation to them.

Here is my prediction about Nintendo core games.
New Zelda, new Mario, new Kid Icaruz, new Metroid Prime, new SSBM, new Mario Kart etc.
BUT! Here is the thing I think will happen. All thoose games will be announced for the Wii but development will drag on and to save cash they will release them for Nintendos next console. LIke Zelda on GC was released both on GC and on Wii!
Also Nintendos next console will be two wii:s ducttaped together.
Now where is my analyst paycheck?!?!

I don't normally comment but this hit a nerve. I bought a Wii before my 360 and the fact is, I'm finding more top quality games on my 360 right now.
I've come to accept that these days, Nintendo will only do what's best for the business and I respect that but just don't piss in my eye and tell me it's raining.
I will eat my hat if Nintendo announce a new (IP) AAA title for the core gamer within the next year because from a business standpoint, things are so good, it doesn't make sense to spend the money for those who now make up the minority of the installed base.

Just about to get my wii on ebay.. Sorry Nintendo, but you missed the boat with me, I'll pass my wii on to someone who gives a sh¶t! Can't really see what games I'd buy on wii if they were announced now. Zelda would be the only thing to pique my interest, but I'm afraid the HD bug has go me and another Cube 1.5 graphics version isn't going to cut it. PS3 all the way for me now...

Like you, I was on the fence for months about whether or not I should do so myself. Then I realized it was pointless to hold on to it for so long in the hopes that maybe they'll release a game worth getting. Then I realized it was foolish to do so when history has proven otherwise. Ever since E3 and the Wii Music debacle I've pretty much convinced myself this isn't the console for me, and haven't been able to bring myself to invest any more into it.
You may as well take the opportunity to cash in for the holiday season.

"Why? Their stories are all the same, so shall my responses be"
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't say "add some variety", I said "some added variety". I was taking note that you changed up your standard reply a bit while still sending the same message.
@johnnynumber5
Thanks. Most of the time I don't worry about getting 100% on achievement/trophies, but I love SSHD and I enjoyed attempting to get the trophies. That Late Bomber trophy is the absolute worst! I don't know how that can call that one a Silver, it's easily more difficult than any of the Golds.

I don't see this "OMG NO GAMEZ" thing that everyone has been saying with the Wii and the DS. I have had more than enough to play with both of these systems, and have a good lineup coming up. That being said, I don't play games too often, so maybe for some the upcoming lineups are too small.
Oh, and WiiMusic is actually pretty fun, kinda like those glass snowball things or a lava lamp.

I echo this sentiment. I suppose i'm different from the hardcore gamer who consumes one game a week and is ready for more soon after. I take my time with what i buy. One retail game a month, usually. Very rarely more than that. From that, i've survived exclusively on Nintendo platforms from the beginning
Honestly, more of my gaming time is spent discussing them online than actually playing them, truth be told

No, I definitely did not buy Wii Music. But if it were like 20$ I would, it's great to put in whenever people come over.
As for other Wii games, I've been playing Harvest Moon, Wario Land and de Blob to death. HM is so freaking addictive, it will hold me until Animal Crossing... which will hold me until Rune Factory Frontier which will keep me playing until forever :P

It's just a preference thing. I'm sure there are tons of Wii games that would be fun to play (Boom Blox & De Blob to name two) but without demos and more appealing content to me elsewhere the Wii gets used really as the family and childrens console. It's actually a good thing because before Little Big Planet there wasn't allot of games I would want our 6 year old kids playing or much that they could play on the PS3. The Wii is great because anyone can pick up and play it without being a videogame professor. Thats not to say they will be the best but thats the appeal. In that respect the Wii does it's job. However, for me I would not go out and buy De Blob (even if its fun) when I could buy Dead Space, far Cry 2 or Fallout 3 for the same price. It's not that it doesn't have good games. It's that (for me) the games aren't good enough to justify a purchase unless its something all of us can play together. I doubt I would put over 100 hours into De Blob or Boom Blox.

I'm acing ToT because I play Harvest Moon like 24/7 on my GBA and DS. It's usually the first few days when you are disoriented by the differences from other games, then you find a pattern and do very well.

Wii has a high quality game shortage. Smell the roses and face it, the good core Nintendo games are living on the DS and GBA... but the Wii is taking a dump on the people who helped build Nintendo's empire in the first place.
Name a good Wii title that isnt a mainstream Nintendo game (Zelda, Mario, etc), doesnt start with 'Wii' in front of it, or isnt a giant mini game collection. Besides 'No More Heroes' I'm having trouble thinking of high quality 3rd party games that would catch my interest like a GTA4, Oblivion, Fallout 3, or even Bioshock.
The reason 'hardcore' gamers chow down a game per week is because they have the next great game ahead of them.
So take your time playing your Wii titles, I'll be spending my time playing my real next gen systems while my Wii serves as a perfectly fine stand for my Xbox.

There are many good 3rd party Wii games, maybe you should smell the roses and face it. And why shouldn't we include Nintendo properties when counting them? That's like saying PS3 has good games, but you can't count Motorstorm/Uncharted/Litte Big Planet/Resistance etc.
Stop being a troll and let him have his games, if you "chow down a game" each week, you haven't got much time left... now get going.

Lots of core games? How about games for every franchise represented in Brawl? Face it; the Smash Bros. series is a glorified advertisement for Nintendo's franchises, and a pretty good one at that. Fire Emblem became popular in the United States because of Marth and Roy in Melee; EarthBound is becoming increasingly popular because of Ness and Lucas in Brawl.
Punch Out Wii, Fire Emblem DS, and Sin and Punishment 2 are a step in the right direction... so bring on Star Fox, Kid Icarus, EarthBound, Ice Climber, Yoshi, Golden Sun, and all the rest of them...

Speaking of which, I'm still playing BRAWL. That is to say, I have yet to earn every trophy, sticker, and unlock every challenge and I won't move on to any other game until I do. I have a friend who's the exact opposite; he buys games as soon as they come out and as a result sometimes forgets about the games he was in the middle of. How many of you actually spend time playing a game to its fullest to get the most value?; if you did this the wii library wouldn't seem as sparse. That being said, yeah, the wii just isn't for serious gamers. I suppose that's what the 360 or PS3 is for.

I dl'd it too, it's mellow as all hell. Good for when I want to listen to music, though that'd make it a battle between Orbient, Tetris Party, and StarSoldier R, and Orbient takes third place there.

I don't understand why journalists keep asking "where are the core games" and expecting dates for new Mario, Zelda, and Metroid titles when the previous ones are less than two years old.
Now, if you're asking where's Kid Icarus, F-Zero, and the like, that's cool. But don't waste my time asking for Wii Zelda when common sense tells us we won't see that before 2010 at the earliest.
