MotorStorm: Pacific Rift to have weekly DLC
The first MotorStorm title was known to have a multitude of downloadable content (of course, some could argue it was needed -- at least for the Japanese release). Speaking to CVG, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Game Director Nigel Kershaw has revealed that weekly DLC is being planned. "We've got a pile of stuff waiting in the wings," he said, "and you'll be glad to know, a lot of it is free."
Kershaw said that "major packs" will be coming after Christmas. Previous MotorStorm DLC included new game modes, new tracks and new vehicles. Kudos to the developer for taking what we're affectionately calling the Rock Band model for support. No word on when we should expect the added content to start rolling out. Pacific Rift launched this week in North America.

Didn't the Rock Band model fail the day they announced Rock Band 2 not even a year before the first one came out, though?
Anyway I don't think that Weekly DLC is a good idea when it comes to games like Motorstorm.

What do you mean it failed? I don't know how could it fail if you could play all the DLC you bought in both games. Hell, you could even export most of the songs from RB 1 into RB 2 which is fucking awesome if you ask me. And the main reason RB 2 came out so soon was because of competition.
But yeah I sorta agree with you on the DLC for these types of games though. Some people can rip through all the tracks in a week if they wanted to. So DLC would be nice for them. Although it would be kinda suck if they loaded the game with 20 tracks and then charge for the ones they already made but didn't put in the game.

"And the main reason RB 2 came out so soon was because of competition."
Exactly.
The main idea behind RB was that you could last on DLC alone without having to release new games.Let's face it RB2 could've as well been released as a patch and a whole lot of new DLC.

Wii owners are probably happier that they managed to implement all of the features that the rest of us had in RB1. But you're right, at least in regards to the song list being released as a lot of DLC.
HOWEVER, I'm really glad they released the entire setlist (84 songs on disc plus 20 free bonus songs in the near future) for the low MSRP of $59.99. Comparatively speaking, this is super cheap.

I think people WAY overestimate the power of patches...especially when they say that RB1 could just be patched into RB2 and leave it at that.
You'd be looking at an overhaul on the scale of the NXE.
Not to mention that $60 for 84 songs (+20 more as free DLC) is pretty much unheard of in modern DLC standards...even in the "RB Model".

maybe they read the review of their own game in the official playstation magazine..
the review of this game was poor.

What? Did it not fit on the BluRay?
Bad Mojo @ Oct 28th 2008 9:39AM
I'd like a lot more free content... especially if it's just sitting there. But I'm not a fan of the "nickel and dime" approach some developers roll out with.

allright this has nothing to do with this particular post but I have to say it and this is the newest one right now. I was watching the today show, and they had a report on the election campaign from since it started, and n ear they end they had a bit about Obama's media coverage, and there was a big collage of magazine covers and books and what ever, and they brushed through it real fast, but right in the damn middle i saw the photoshop heading for last fridays podcast

The original Motorstorm was great for showing off some of the graphics that the PS3 was capable of as a launch title. From everything I've heard, this is more of an expansion then a true sequel.
With that in mind, I don't really see why there'd be any interest in this game, as several games have come out since the 1st games release that are just far superior within the genre.
Vidikron @ Oct 28th 2008 10:36AM
Like what?
Kodros @ Oct 28th 2008 12:54PM
Exactly Vid. Also, I don't understand how you can call it an expansion when it has double the number of tracks of the original.
TERATOGEN @ Oct 28th 2008 10:38AM
What a rip off! The first MotorStorm had very little content yet the price tag was $60. Now they are doing the same crap. Purposely not including content so they can charge for it later. "…and you'll be glad to know, a lot of it is free." – Bullcrap! That contradicts the fundamentals of Sony’s gaming sales model. I’m sorry but I’m no a 9 year old kid to believe all this sales pitch crap. Mark my words, 1 or 2 things will be free and tons of it that should’ve been in the game from the beginning will be as extra costing extra money. I’m skipping this one.
Hyams @ Oct 28th 2008 11:35AM
There been loads of free DLC for both the origional Motorstorm and for Warhawk, alongside the payable DLC.
RC @ Oct 28th 2008 11:12AM
You're full of shit teratogen. Motorstorm PR has got 16 tracks, split screen, multiplayer, adds the whole lava heating up and water cooling stuff. It's got a ton of content. It will be great to get continued support. And there has certainly been far superior in the genre.
TERATOGEN @ Oct 28th 2008 3:02PM
Enjoy being ripped off. Sony loves naive fanboys like you.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Oct 28th 2008 11:18AM
well i havent played Motorstorm 2 to see how much content you get for $60, but in general im fine with this model as long as it doesnt seem like they are shipping an incomplete game. like i would buy DLC for LBP because that already seems like a complete game. other than that, this is a practice that should chucked just based on ethics (yea like that would happen lol).
Patrick @ Oct 28th 2008 11:18AM
Actually, I would like them to follow the Burnout Paradise model.
Dirty @ Oct 28th 2008 11:24AM
They need to provide incentive to get gamers online. That is what this is about, somewhere in the underbelly of Sony and Microsoft they are plotting and scheming ways to get your console on the interwebs. This is part of it. Online only co-op also part of it.
Get you online, spend some extra cash on some horse armor.
Jack Tretton @ Oct 28th 2008 12:30PM
Let's all enjoy a complimentary paint job!
TERATOGEN @ Oct 28th 2008 3:10PM
Exactly, you get a new vehicle for $5 but look all those paint jobs are free.

To me Motorstorm doesn't seem like a game that could have weekly DLC. Songs are easy to make. Just some music and a chart. But tracks need textures, lighting, correct animations etc.
