Not that you have to want the game or anything like that - I am all about letting people playing the games they want to play - but you do realize that *any* game from *any* genre can be summed up like you just did with LBP.

"In Resistance all you do is run from point A to point B, shooting stuff along the way." See, it's easy.

It's a weak argument against the game. Though I will admit there are probably legitimate arguments against the game, this isn't one of them!

I don't play often on my PS3 and I don't know if this game will live up enough if you can only spend a few hours a month...

Maybe my girlfriend will like it, so I might be picking up a second handed...

This is more than just a 2d platformer IMHO. Its a way for us wanna be video games makers to really let our creative side come out. I have always wanted to make a video game and games like rpg maker, and what ever else i might have tried, have always been far too complex for me. this game is an awesome opportunity for me to do that. that and the fact that other people are able to play what i have created is something that without this game i probably wouldn't be able to do. yay LBP!

To the arse who claims he returned it because it doesn't support 1080p? Wow - that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Glad you aren't part of the community anymore, and thanks for weeding yourself out.

Want to hear something that will have you running for the hills, my friend? COD4 was not even 720p, more like 560p but they use clever techniques to make it the buttery smooth experience that it is.

As for this review, was this written in the middle of a bi-polar relapse? Lavish praise followed by harsh criticism, followed by more... Dude, the reason you don't always get a max jump when holding down X is because this is a physics sandbox environment. If you're on an upslope, or standing on a softer surface (or a ledge) you won't get that far. Try running and jumping from a rubber surface (with the extra traction it provides) or from metal or stone. Duh...

And you list the 'lack of mouse support' as an annoyance? Did anyone ever promise such a feature? I happen to think the controller works very well in the Create mode. You can customize your character innumerous ways, but you want to be able to alter its appearance altogether - as if that is somehow different? You can't change its size or dimensions without redoing the whole collision detection engine - think about it. As for being unrecognizable, have you seen some of the full costumes they already have? Kratos? Nariko? the upcoming Disney characters?

And you 'have to believe' that there will be thousands of gamers out there who WILL devote ridiculous amounts of time to create awe-inspiring levels. And MM already have a full year of DLC lined up which will include new map packs, new textures, objects, and tools. Don't be surprised to see 'water' in a patch.

A reasonable review, but all over the map and at times too critical about non-issues that you just failed to appreciate...

I agree with you SnazzyD ...

As long as the game looks good who cares what the resolution is. It's not just about the eye candy ... Its an entire experience. Honestly, I thought the game did run at 1080p so I didn't notice anyway.

The game is epic and hopefully we get a sequel sometime by the end of next year or early 2010. Think about it, they have the pieces in place now so they can expand on concepts and allow the user to do much more. Imagine if LBP had a workshop where you could create comic books/strips, your own sackboy to be made and mailed to you, animation tools for custom celebrations, camera control would give you the ability to create, play, share and enjoy machinma type content and everything in between. They could give you unprecedented control and you coudl turn LBP levels into 2-D shooters or zombie sackboy survival horror!

The possibilities are endless with the foundation and building blocks already in place. I am so psyched about the launch of the Little Big Workshop to allow blue-printing of level designs and objects. This game will cause a change in the way we think about what a video game is and what it is capable of. Going forward, I hope the creators see the potential in this product to make it truly limitless. Now that the basics have been created they can experiment with some very crazy and interesting design choices for the follow up or expansion pack.

Oh and to the dude who was complaining about lack of 1080i/p support and actually returned the game because of it... SERIOUSLY??? That's the dumbest I've heard in a long time. Like you can really tell the freaking difference! You're probably one of those people who way over paid for a 1080p TV because the nerd at Best Buy convinced you to. You probably watch HD TV and think "Man this 1080p looks great" without realizing that the majority of HD Broadcasts are in 720p (all major sporting events) with a few in 1080i. No one is broadcasting 1080p. Thanks for proving you're a moron tho!

Yes granted the controls are a bit disorientating at first, but once you get used to them...well, you get used to them.
With regards to the 1080p idiot who traded the game in, well i got a 47in 1080p TV, and 720p LBB looks fine to me...

This is going way back.. but I wanted to mention

the p in 480/720/1080 is progressive, the i stands for interlaced.

So in 720p you have 720 progressive lines, in interlaced.. say 1080i you have 540 vertical and 540 horizontal.

There is practically no difference.

Wrong.

720p = 720 (ish) lines (of roughly 1280 pixels) shown every refresh

1080i = 1080 lines (of roughly 1920 pixels), with every other line shown every refresh

Both show roughly the same number of pixels per refresh and thus require roughly the same processing power.

A 1080i picture is more detailed, but can seem less smooth in motion and can suffer from artifacting; a 720p picture is less detailed and can suffer from more obvious "jaggies", but can seem to run more smoothly.

I don't know what you think horizontal and vertical mean.

The campaign mode is not short per se. If all you want to do is finish the levels you can do so in around 10-12 hours or less. But, within the levels are endless objects that you can use to create levels or modify your character. To get each object in every level would literally take months unless you have a game guide. For example, I have played through 7 of the 60 or so stages in the game. I have already collected over 200 objects to use to create my own levels and I am only around 45% complete in terms of the actual amount of objects.

If all you wanted to do was play the single player campaign the game would still be a complete and worthy purchase. If you experiment with level creation, getting trophies, collecting objects and playing online levles the game becomes an endless experience.

My opinion is you will enjoy the game if all you do is play in your spare time and don't go online. The rgeat thing is this game will allow your friends and female friends to want to play with you. It transcends all gender, race, age and preference. It's not a game that applies just to gamers but rather its a game that applies to all people.

The best way for me to describe it is a magical & wymsical experience. Like a pop out storybook you read as a child has come to life in a vibrant world. It's truly a masterpiece and is hands down the GOTY. In my opinion its the best game ever created and I love shooters, racing and fighting games the best and platformers the least.

If you own a PS3 and you pass on this game you are making a HUGE mistake. It's the most fun you will ever have as a gamer.

I love this game been playing it since I picked it up on Saturday. Tons of replay value with the game due to all the online levels and replaying the in game levels to collect all the items. My only beef is the controls but its minor and doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this game. I really hope they pump out a ton of dlc for to add more to the user created levels.

Definitely a game of the year title.

I agree with the part about controls. The plane thing definitely could use some tweeking. First, it always moves you to the farthest back plane if there is an object there to land on, making it difficult to stay in the front plane sometimes. Also, it automatically moves you to a different plane if there is an object in your path, but that means that it is sometimes difficult to grab onto a single-plane block to grab it.

However your grievances about the story fall on deaf ears. Not because I think the story is good. I couldn't even tell you what the story was, as I usually hit circle before reading most of the text bubbles. Rather, I don't consider the story to be the main draw of the game, and as such that it shouldn't be under as much scrutiny.

Last, this game is an absolute blast if you've got some friends to play with. My roommates and I had like 10 people over when I booted the game up on Saturday. Almost everybody got really into the game, switching off controllers so everyone could play and and yelling at the TV whenever someone fell.

This game is fricking awesome. As an old-time gamer, I've been bored with the recent crop of games due to lack of originality. Too mayh boring shooters, etc... with no innovation.

There is a reason why many gamers to this day still play Super Mario (on various emulators, etc...). BLP captures that type of fun all over again, but 10000x the fun as it's absolutely amazing to see how items are built (and building them yourself!).

I am guessing it will be on the Thursday PSN update. When you are in game in your pod it tells you to go to the PSN for new LBP outfits and stickers. That leads me to believe the promised items will be available via the PSN on the weekley Thursday update. Just a hunch I have but seems the most logical. You can already download the pre-orer DLC packs from Best buy & Gamestop.

It really is for the person with a very creative imagination. I'm not really that sort of person that has the time or interest to contribute user created content for the world.

The single player may be short, but I wouldn't mind playing other people's creative levels. So it's not a must buy for me at the moment, not a must to buy a PS3 for anyway, but I would like to play around with it someday.

Well, you're quite wrong. I never said or have pretended to own a PS3. My comment history is quite open to everyone. In fact there's times I've stated I will purchase a PS3 for upcoming games that interest me.

So, this was an honest opinion. LittleBigPlanet looks fun, but exploring it more, it is not a game for me personally. You, my friend, were caught in an experimental trap. But I release you and forgive your ignorance of not realizing that people can go against the grain of a popular game simply because: It is not for them.

The following is solely my opinion and feel free to disagree with it but I think LittleBigPlanet is the best game evah! The game is full of pure, unfiltered, genuine fun. I have never had so much fun with a game before. I've certainly played some good games, but never have I played a game that was this much fun. I can spend hours developing and tweaking my own level, and even when I go to bed I find myself thinking about the challenges in the game and how to make my levels more interesting!

Does anyone else have trouble with the rewind time feature? When I hit rewind it seems to get stuck that way and only by pressing up (pause/play) over and over can I get it to go back to 'play'.

I had troubles with it in the beta, but those same problems are still there, I was hoping they'd be fixed.

It's "WHAT my... looks like" or "how my ... looks". One or the other people, not both at once.

Bad grammar aside, thanks for the review, though I don't think the great majority of people playing will finish the story mode in 8 hours. Seems a bit ambitious for the family crew that is aimed at.

You people who are knocking the guy about returning he game for lack of 1080 support are f**king idiots. With the PS3 if you have a TV that does not support a res of 720 the PS3 will scale the game down to 480. It sucks. Whats the point of having a HD console and HD TV if this is what it does. The irony is it will upscale DVD's and PS2 games but not PS3 games. I have both consoles so when I check the game box and it says 720 I just end up getting the game for the 360. Lost sale for the PS3.I have an incredible 65" Mits that does not support 720. This is the only device that I own that has this problem.

By the way we are not alone. There is a very long thread here about this issue http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1543693&page=472

Sony dropped the ball on this one.

I sit far enough away from my 46" screen, that 720p and 1080p makes little difference. So this issue rates a big "MEH" from me.

Let's face it guys, the current gen consoles just aren't built for full 1080p HD. The 360 has a slightly better graphics chip, but the PS3 has slightly better video ram. Both cannot handle 1080p in a complex game without framerate drops.

Maybe developers should give people the choice of running with lower resolution or lower framerate.

Fair enough, looks like I misunderstood his issue. Thanks for pointing that out.

Anyway, I still believe that current gen consoles don't have the hardware to properly cope with 1080p. There'll be some games that do, but only because they're relatively simple.

My Tv is a model that is about 5 years older than I am. The actually TV was bough when I was four. So all of you complaining about the differences in HDs can blow it since some of us can't afford two major entertainment purchases in even a year or two. I spent every red cent I had that I could devote to buying the PS3 (not saying I am not glad that I spent lots of money to buy the best system) so it'll take me a while to save up for a TV.
