Xbox 360 wireless 'Dragon' controller w/ headset available now

The Wal-Mart/Sam's Club exclusive "Dragon" controller we'd previously mentioned is now available on Walmart.com (and we understand making its way to stores), at a lower price than the previously indicated $60. The wireless controller (pictured above) comes with a black headset for $50 at Wal-Mart and $46.58 at Sam's Club.

Not a bad deal when the standard Xbox 360 wireless controller's MSRP is $50 and the white headset is $20, although we do see Amazon and Walmart selling the wireless controller for $37. Pricing aside, we really want to know how a disembodied eye and a candlestick phone made it into this design.

I definitely need a new headset, and could always use another controller.

I won't be buying it, but it's cool they're making unique designs like this. I'm just not sure there's a big market for it.

yeah, the random eye and the even more random candlestick phone are what really tie it together.

Why did Microsoft change the headsets anyway? I hate the new ones. The ones that had the on/off and volume control where it plugs into the controller were so much better.

Though they were convenient, they were made horribly and the wire would always break inside of the gray thing that plugs into your controller. I had two that broke like this, one of them that I barely ever used.

Funny, the WM I work at has these for $59.96.

Does it include the Play-N-Charge kit? If so, then that's why there's a $10 price hike.

Nope. Controller and headset only. I was in today to pick up Fallout 3 (which my store didn't get, BTW...dicks!) and double checked.

Meh...Make one with a Marcus Fenixx Design to match my Master Chief controller and we can talk.

There's no refuting it, that's too freakish. But why would Microsoft be adding subliminal messages for Apple in their products?

That was my first thought. Perhaps people in the design department at MS secretly wish they worked at Apple.

just for the record : the new D-pad thing is nothing really impressinve, I bought the new limited edition reportedly improved D-pad, but I was kind of disapointed, it's the same feeling ... maybe a little bit more soft and responsive but certainly not revolutionary ...

The difference is that it supports 16 way input, rather than 8 way.

And unless a game supports said 16 way input (and currently the one game that does is Pro Evo 09) it'll make little difference, I'm afraid.

Some Konami rep on a show floor was the only person to say there is any new D-Pad. MS didn't confirm it and in fact said they have no plans to introduce an improved D-pad in the US.

The new D-pad is a myth.

There's an old-style telephone on the left side. How does that fit the dragon theme? I'd expect something more in tune with the 360's target demographic, like some dismembered bodies.

Pfft everyone knows this cant compare to really sturdy MadCatz with "turbo" button.

Headsets are overrated when you consider that (fun fact):

ANY WIRED CELL PHONE HEADSET WORKS IN A 360 CONTROLLER.

...ahem.

Pfft, skip this and pick up one of the new special edition red controllers. It's got a black strip running across the bumpers and it comes with a play and charge kit and a rechargeable battery. Also has a different feel than the old white controls. Kind of a matte feel, very nice. It is also a darker red than most pictures online show. I highly recommend it
