Xbox 360 wireless 'Dragon' controller w/ headset available now
The Wal-Mart/Sam's Club exclusive "Dragon" controller we'd previously mentioned is now available on Walmart.com (and we understand making its way to stores), at a lower price than the previously indicated $60. The wireless controller (pictured above) comes with a black headset for $50 at Wal-Mart and $46.58 at Sam's Club.
Not a bad deal when the standard Xbox 360 wireless controller's MSRP is $50 and the white headset is $20, although we do see Amazon and Walmart selling the wireless controller for $37. Pricing aside, we really want to know how a disembodied eye and a candlestick phone made it into this design.

Just for reference, it's the old, shitty d-pad.
Rollins @ Oct 28th 2008 2:19PM
Thank you. Was just about to ask.
Huey2k2 @ Oct 28th 2008 2:01PM
Does anyone know if this is available in Canada?
I definitely need a new headset, and could always use another controller.
MC Double Def DP @ Oct 28th 2008 2:02PM
I won't be buying it, but it's cool they're making unique designs like this. I'm just not sure there's a big market for it.
Kamizar @ Oct 28th 2008 2:02PM
That's a pretty hot design imo...
AoE @ Oct 28th 2008 2:43PM
yeah, the random eye and the even more random candlestick phone are what really tie it together.
StrangeBum @ Oct 28th 2008 3:57PM
Man, that disembodied eye really pulled the room together, man.
Bigfoot @ Oct 28th 2008 2:04PM
Why did Microsoft change the headsets anyway? I hate the new ones. The ones that had the on/off and volume control where it plugs into the controller were so much better.
PeterF @ Oct 28th 2008 5:50PM
Though they were convenient, they were made horribly and the wire would always break inside of the gray thing that plugs into your controller. I had two that broke like this, one of them that I barely ever used.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 28th 2008 2:11PM
Meh...Make one with a Marcus Fenixx Design to match my Master Chief controller and we can talk.
Alex @ Oct 28th 2008 5:59PM
Marcus Fenixx... Is he a pornstar?
Number Six @ Oct 28th 2008 2:11PM
Funny, the WM I work at has these for $59.96.
LiqwidZero @ Oct 28th 2008 2:19PM
Does it include the Play-N-Charge kit? If so, then that's why there's a $10 price hike.
Number Six @ Oct 28th 2008 5:49PM
Nope. Controller and headset only. I was in today to pick up Fallout 3 (which my store didn't get, BTW...dicks!) and double checked.
Garrett @ Oct 28th 2008 2:20PM
it's a subtle iPhone reference!
Ranelar @ Oct 28th 2008 2:38PM
Woah. It's amazing how right you are.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 28th 2008 2:46PM
There's no refuting it, that's too freakish. But why would Microsoft be adding subliminal messages for Apple in their products?
Courtney @ Oct 28th 2008 3:28PM
That was my first thought. Perhaps people in the design department at MS secretly wish they worked at Apple.
theturtle363 @ Oct 28th 2008 3:39PM
lulz
squeevi @ Oct 28th 2008 2:20PM
Odd, I thought everyone knew Dragons used candlestick phones and collected disembodied eyes.
Raster @ Oct 28th 2008 2:25PM
My local wal-mart has had these for over two weeks...
AoE @ Oct 28th 2008 2:44PM
um... w00t?
Raster @ Oct 28th 2008 4:32PM
Haha... would be a w00t, but I don't have a 360. Still, I think my roommate's gonna take advantage of it. One of his controllers inexplicably busted last week.
DemonGSides @ Oct 29th 2008 12:44PM
Yeah, inexplicably went through the wall, right? You weren't playing it at all, I bet.
Raster @ Oct 29th 2008 12:56PM
Nope. It just won't sync, no matter how new the batteries are.
F1 @ Oct 28th 2008 2:55PM
MUST...RESTRAIN...WALLET!!!
Hyams @ Oct 28th 2008 3:00PM
I can't figure out if that design is awsome or ugly.
cficare @ Oct 28th 2008 3:03PM
It's not a candlestick, it's an old telephone.
Ranelar @ Oct 28th 2008 3:11PM
Also known as a "candlestick phone" ... you know, exactly the way joystiq reported it as.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 28th 2008 4:27PM
Obvious comment is OBVIOUS!
eddyk @ Oct 28th 2008 3:07PM
just for the record : the new D-pad thing is nothing really impressinve, I bought the new limited edition reportedly improved D-pad, but I was kind of disapointed, it's the same feeling ... maybe a little bit more soft and responsive but certainly not revolutionary ...

The difference is that it supports 16 way input, rather than 8 way.
And unless a game supports said 16 way input (and currently the one game that does is Pro Evo 09) it'll make little difference, I'm afraid.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Oct 28th 2008 4:20PM
Some Konami rep on a show floor was the only person to say there is any new D-Pad. MS didn't confirm it and in fact said they have no plans to introduce an improved D-pad in the US.
The new D-pad is a myth.
theturtle363 @ Oct 28th 2008 3:38PM
ill stick with my McFarlane Master Chief controller or my standard black
Biff_McFresh @ Oct 28th 2008 4:15PM
Looks like a design I'd see on a shirt that a portly kid holding a super pretzel walking out of k-mart would have on.
I'm buying it.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 28th 2008 4:28PM
I love me some soopah pretzel.
NOT ME @ Oct 28th 2008 4:36PM
UMMM still no black wireless headset huh...something i could actually USE!!!!! thanks microsoft......
Evan @ Oct 28th 2008 5:05PM
There's an old-style telephone on the left side. How does that fit the dragon theme? I'd expect something more in tune with the 360's target demographic, like some dismembered bodies.
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 28th 2008 5:15PM
Pfft everyone knows this cant compare to really sturdy MadCatz with "turbo" button.
:P
PojoMofo @ Oct 28th 2008 7:05PM
I think the design looks pretty lame, but the price is right, so good deal
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Oct 29th 2008 1:33PM
Headsets are overrated when you consider that (fun fact):
ANY WIRED CELL PHONE HEADSET WORKS IN A 360 CONTROLLER.
...ahem.
Darthweder @ Oct 30th 2008 7:54PM
Pfft, skip this and pick up one of the new special edition red controllers. It's got a black strip running across the bumpers and it comes with a play and charge kit and a rechargeable battery. Also has a different feel than the old white controls. Kind of a matte feel, very nice. It is also a darker red than most pictures online show. I highly recommend it
mario @ Oct 31st 2008 5:26PM
ITS THE ALL SEEING EYE!!!
